OFFICIAL 2014 WDW Marathon Countdown: WE DID IT! Congrats everyone!

Does anybody use KT tape? I've been happy with the results I've been getting, but after the first mile I just can't make the da*n stuff stick! And it's REALLY starting to make me :furious:. I follow the directions to the letter and make sure my skin is dry and clean when I put it on. I've been using the regular tape and not the Pro. Yet. Thinking about it but hate the idea of wasting more $ if it's just as bad. Help! :worship:

I've used K-tape for shin splints and had the same problem - during my runs I'd wear a compression sleeve as well and it helped. I found it was about the time spent and duration prior to getting sweaty that helped me - ie, for an early morning run I'd put on the night before. Good luck!

Thanks! I can't really do the compression sleeve as it's for my IT bands and I already have a giant brace on my other knee. I'll try putting it on tonight though for my run tomorrow morning. Thanks for the tip! :goodvibes

Just sharing... (and this is not news to some who are on multiple threads I am sub'd to) but after struggling to replace my beloved brooks pureflows (the 2's came out and they were NOT the same) I came across the Adidas boost. I have a heck of a time finding shoes that are "perfect". Luckily, this time I only had to send back a couple different shoes (well, the 2's I had 3 different ones before switching to the mizuno wave rider 16) Also..I am glad that this time I didn't end up injuring myself in the process. So far, I am loving them! I hate that I had to return a few shoes to get there...but I think these are keepers. :cool1:

When I find a pair of running shoes that are perfect, I buy a whole bunch of them (like, 8-10 pair). Changing shoes can lead to disaster. I really wish shoe companies understood how many people they injure every year because of their need to "change" their shoe designs every year.

I exited POFQ on Bonnet Creek Pkwy and walked on the side of the road to Disney Vacation Club way. No Ditch that way.

This is what the Corral looked like after leaving my room at 4:25 for the Half Marathon last year.

We are staying at POFQ this year for the first time ever. I am really unfamlier with that area so it sounds like I need to pull out a map and check this out! I'm always down for extra sleep!!!

OP Here! Update:

Sorry I've been away from the boards and this thread for 5 months, and was not able to keep up with the list of DISers who are running this WDW marathon weekend. I had a couple of running injuries and health issues, and couldn't bear to think that I was not able to run this with you. But thanks to my doctors and positive vibes, I am back! Thanks for keeping this thread alive and supporting each other. good luck to all runners and thanks to all supporters! :cool1:

So glad you're back and feeling better!!!

Amanda

I should do this... but sometimes that is just not affordable. The pair I just bought runs $150. However, when I did find my pureflow... they were only $50. I should have snagged more!!!!

AND YES!!! I agree!!! I wish shoe companies realized how many people they injure by their changes!!!!

Good luck! Whenever my PT put it on it stayed for days (neck/back), even through showers and workouts. Sometimes it depends on how your leg is flexed when you put it on so it doesn't pull as much. Also, all the videos on YouTube say friction when applying - if that helps at all. People make fun of me for it, but I love it.

I swear by KT tape. I have found, though, that the Pro sticks a lot better than the regular tape. I usually clean my skin with rubbing alcohol, too, before I put it on. They also sell Ultra-Stick, which helps keep the pesky corners from peeling up.

Like kmchisholm said, time between taping and activity helps, too. You know how in the video instructions, that guy says to rub the tape to create friction, heat, etc. to help the tape stick to your skin? I'm really bad at that part, so I've learned that using a hairdryer to set it works just as well. :)

Pricewise, I try to wait and buy it at the expos when they sell it 2 for $30. Plus, they do complimentary tapings. Back in January, I saw one guy get both knees, both ankles, and (I think) both feet taped.

I love that idea! Have taken a break from tape for a while but as training starts and I get older think it will be necessary for calves and shins. I was able to find some for a good price on eBay too.

Thanks! I actually wiped down with alcohol, then applied the tape with hairspray and rubbed the heck out of it using the paper the tape comes on. I left it on all Friday night for Saturday morning's run. For the most part, it worked really well, except for one corner. The pieces on the side of my knees kind of bunched up a little bit too, but I think it's more due to my nasty quads! :furious: I actually didn't wear my knee brace at all and didn't have as much pain as I expected. Probably won't go brace free again, but at least I know the stuff seems to work. I just ordered some medical spray adhesive and plan on trying the Pro as soon as I use up the regular tape. Thanks again for all the tips!

I'm starting to eye certain hotels for the race. For those that have stayed at the Beachclub/Boardwalk and have participated in the marathon are we able to walk back into Epcot after finishing the race through World Showcase into Intl.Gateway to access our hotel? Or do we have to take a bus at the parking lot to take us back? Mainly trying to figure out would there be any benefits to staying closer to the finish line as opposed to staying at AKL which is another hotel I'm looking at.

You can walk back through Epcot, but you have to use a park ticket to do it. That was my plan the year I ran the marathon, but after finishing I didn't really feel like adding a mile walk to my day, so I rode the bus back to Boardwalk. For the half it would depend on how fast you finish. You'd have to wait until 9:00 for the park to open to walk back.

Hi everyone, looks like DH (gteppel on DIS) and myself will be joining you! I'll go back and read all the posts, but until I get caught up, I'll introduce ourselves.

Yesterday we decided to switch our 10 year anniversary trip from Aulani to WDW (moving it to Feb). Then DH asked me since he knew that it's been a long goal of mine (over 10 years) to run the WDW marathon if I wanted to switch the dates so I could run the marathon. A few hours later, we had switched our DVC reservation, talked to my parents and registered both of us (my parents will watch DS while we run)!

First marathon for both of us (we've only done 10ks before) and we're following Galloway's plan.

How exciting! I envy you. At mine and my dh's 10 year we were no where near running or being active in any way. (unless chasing around young ones count) We do plan to celebrate our 25 year though with a RD event!! :goodvibes:goodvibes

Hello all...I don't think I have checked into this thread yet so here I am! I'm in for my first full Marathon and started my training last week. Looking forward to chatting with you all. :thumbsup2

I stayed at Beach Club year before last and Boardwalk this year. I am at Boardwalk again in January. I have taken the bus back to the hotel both years (I had park tickets with me) just because I was too exhausted to walk any further. I imagine I will do the same this time.
