OFFICIAL 2014 WDW Marathon Countdown: WE DID IT! Congrats everyone!

Sitting at the airport waiting for my flight. It's already delayed an hour past it's departure time and they have just given us estimates for when it might leave.

Any reports from the expo? Was hoping to make it there tonight but not sure we will have time.

Ok, now that I heard all the fireworks for each corral go off at the half, but was half asleep and miscounted, how many minutes were there between corral starts? I'm in G and want to estimate my start so I can let the wife know where I'll be at what times. Assuming I can keep my pace anyway :-). I know I heard fireworks until at least after 6.
I'm assuming that the full will be the same as the half?

Heard them as well. First one I heard was 5:36. At least that's the one that woke me up. I would say the first 4 or 5 I heard went off very quickly. No more than two minutes between each one. Then at some point they were at 4-6 minutes between each one.

They announced 3 min by corrals for the first few anyways. Then they seemed to spread out more. I was in J and we started at 6:05

We were in "L" and it was 6:15 before we crossed the start line

I was in 'I' and crossed approx 6am (give or take a few seconds) so looks like it was 2-3 min for the first corrals then 4-5 for the next batch :)

I guessing zigged and zagged a lot, ended up at 26.57. Great run, weather was as good as it could have been I think and everything went well. I must say I wasn't a fan of WWoS. All those turns makes it hard to maintain a steady pace. PR for me, it was my first marathon :-). I'm back next year for Dopey, with 15 anniversary Goofy medal. Hop everyone's run went well,

WWoS was terrible with all those turns. Slowed me down with all those turns. Wish they would go back to the 2012 course.

I ran a good race and was very happy that the weather cooled down for the marathon, my first. I had no issues, the bus transportation was great, the course was fun, and I didn't have any trouble with crowds on the course. I thought the volunteers were so energetic and were happily working the water stops etc.

Congrats to all runners! It's quite an accomplishment.

Anyone else get stuck on a bus around noon while the 1000 motorcycles had to go through a light? Turned a 10 minute trip back to POR into a 30 minute one. Not a real lot of happy and sore people cramped up on that bus. Traffic was also backed up real far behind us because of this as well.

Not a good day for a memorial ride or whatever was going on because it did not seem to be a funeral or anything.

I'm undecided on how I feel about the race lol. The first half flew by and I was having a blast. I got to ride Everest which was great! I went downhill after that though. Even though it wasn't that hot, it was still much hotter than I'm used to. I felt sick off and on and just couldn't wait to be done. My legs, specifically my feet, really hurt but I could run through that. The nausea is what slowed me down.

We will see if I try another marathon or not! I'm in the lottery for the NYC marathon, but I'm seriously considering withdrawing.

If you were on the bus sitting under the bridge for ~20 minutes, I was on the same bus.

As for the race - loved it. Weather was awesome, even for someone coming down from the cold, and especially compared to the weather for the half.

I had a great time. I trained for a sub-4 hr marathon, but decided to take it slow and take it all in. Stopped for all but 3 photo opportunities along the way. If Goofy was out there, I missed him. Considering the number of "Goofy" runners, this was a huge disappointment for me.

I felt great after the run - went out last night and am getting ready to head over to Epcot for the day.

I will be doing another runDisney event. Awesome, even at the prices. :goodvibes

I will add that the absolute worst stretch of the marathon is the 6 miles between AK and the ending of WWoS. Just hated the WWoS piece. Seemed to go on forever. Once I excited WWoS I at least knew it was a 10K to the finish. I think that 6 mile stretch is the most mental part of the marathon and not the final 6. Too bad they could not figure out a way to break the monotony of that stretch.

In the orlando sentinel there's a headline "Sons of Anarchy to be grand marshals for Roar On I-4 charity motorcycle ride".

For some reason I can't get the URL on my phone. It is for the charity bikers run to quite literally physically protect victims of child abuse. I think that the timing was likely bad, and someone could have mentioned that having it at 2 might have been a bit better, but it's hard for me to argue with that particular charity.

We were getting to 4 from a different direction and there were backups that way caused by lanes unexpectedly closed and one two-car-one-disney-bus accident we passed by. It was just a mess, driving wise.

Sorry but anyone who thought the motorcycle idea was a good thing for the weekend of the marathon is not very bright. The article says that it started at DD and had a police escort, which means that Disney must have known about it.

With many roads already being closed for the marathon, someone should have told them that another weekend would be better.

Congratulations to everyone that participated this weekend! :yay: I've been lurking and was cheering all of you on from here in chilly Ohio in spirit!

The motorcycle thing...bizarre! :confused3

My experience was similar to yours, except I just struggled with nausea from mile 18 to 20. After that things settled down and I was fine. When it looked at my garmin numbers I saw it took 40 min to ride Everest not the 10 I had expected. The cast member controlling the single rider line was not concerned with moving us on. I am so glad I did the race but not sure whether I'll do another marathon. If I do I won't do EE again. I'm glad I did but the price I paid was too high in time. I felt for the runners in the last few corrals. They were so much more congested than the one I was in (M). Disney shouldn't pack the last corrals as full as they did to give everyone a better chance at success. I'll definitely do more Disney races. We're in for the GSC.
