Official 2014 Tinker Bell Half Marathon

So I was just looking at the website and I know the times of the races don't always make sense, but they have the 5k starting @ 5:45 and the 10k @ 6am. You would think they would do the opposite, b/c more people would be there Sat and even though it's MLK weekend the parks would open earlier on Sat. I just though that was funny. But then again, for DL when the sun is up earlier and it's warmer we start at 5:30, but for Tink when it's darker and presumably colder we start at 5. :rotfl:

Based on the course map someone found for the DL 10K the race starts/ends outside of the parks, but the 5K starts/ends inside the parks. The route may be different for the Tink 10K. I thought the times were odd as well. The inaugural had the 5K on Friday night starting at 10:30pm and the half started at 5:45am. That was before Carsland land was completed and DCA did not open until 11:00 that day.

i'm not going to jump and register for the 10K right now.......if it sells out quickly than it does. If it's still available in a month or so I'll probably sign up. I think Disney didn't do the Challenge to get more runners, so i'll give them a chance. this will be our 1st time at DL and i don't want to "ruin" the whole 4 days for the family by doing all the running events instead of park touring.

I always get the race pins! It might be blasphemous to pin collectors, but I remove the pin on the back and turn them into fridge magnets! They make me smile every day! :D

I always get the race pins, too, and then take them to work and stick them in my cork board. Magnets are a fun idea, too.

I have never gotten any of the other preorder items (necklace or ears). They have lots of other stuff at the expo to pick from. Sometimes they'll even have the pins or necklaces there, too, if they have leftovers.

My gut is the 10k will sell out QUICK. Anytime there is a new race people want to jump in on the inaugural race. I'm thinking about just biting the bullet and going for it....

It depends.....I always get the pin and necklace. We get the ears for our little runner for doing his kids race.
I always end up doing a lot of shopping at the "official merchandise" area. The only good thing is I get my AP discount so then it's not "too" bad. :lmao:

Thanks ladies!!
I sure hope I get into both races....5k & 10K (DD & I have never done a 10K...so this will be something NEW):cheer2:

the GSC sold out faster than the 10K (although that one didn't take long either) so hopefully without all the half marathon runners taking spots just for the challenge medals, it'll take a bit longer. if it sells out, oh well. I'm getting Tink, Enchanted 10K, Princess 1/2, GSC and C2C. I'm certainly not short on medals next year! princess:

Sorry~another question?

I have an AP, my friend does not. We are doing this trip together. (I haven't seem her in years, and just moved back to the west coast) Can I register her when I register on Friday?

I'm interested to know this, too. My sister is the AP holder in my case. I think she can register us both, if they allow teams for the 10k. Otherwise, I'll be hoping it doesn't sell out before Tuesday. :scared:

I'm pretty sure you can register other people.

Last year I preordered the pin and the necklace. Both were still avaialble at the expo so I think I might take my chances this year and just wait til the expo and get my AP discount.

I asked DD if she'd like to do one of kids races when we go for Tink and she said yes! She's pretty excited about it! Can't wait to register on Friday!

I'm in for the Tink half for sure.....might sign up for 5K with my oldest son and then let my 2 year old do the kids races. Hum...what to do ;)

I'm not finding the early registration link on the DVC website now. I thought I saw it a few days ago but I don't know if it's gone or I just can't remember where I saw it. It's not on my home page where the slideshow goes between the VGF, Member Cruise, etc. Also not on the page with perks or discounts.

Maybe it will show up again on Friday??

Just found out today that the Divas race series is finally coming to Texas next year...to Galveston...a mere one hour and change drive from my house!!!! I've been wanting to do one of their races for a while, but never wanted to travel to where they held them. So, next week I'll be signing up for my first ever NON-Disney half. I sort of feel like a traitor ;)

Has anyone done a Diva race before? Well organized? Do they sell out very fast? I'm excited! Trying to recruit some cousins to run it with me too!

Still contemplating the Tink 10k. You know what has me concerned? The medal! They seem to just be calling it the Tinker Bell 10k, right? So, no differentiation in theme from the half really...I certainly hope it doesn't end up being just a smaller version of the half medal...I thought it was strange that they showed the half medal in the video to announce the 10k. Kind of a stupid thing to be concerned with probably, but it has me thinking. I still can't decide if I want to sign up or not...which should probably be my cue to NOT sign up, right? :headache:

Hey Cripey. I'm not gonna sign up for the 10K. I'm already registered for the Tink. To be honest, I'm curious about the medal, also

Me too!! I saw that it was the same medal. :confused3 Surely they wouldn't give out the same medal for both races......i only want to do the race for another cool medal, not a smaller version of the one i have! :rotfl:

I did the SF Bay area Diva this year and it was fun! I was signed up for the half but due to an injury I bumped down to the 5K. Its a decent expo with lots of womens items. The medal is nice and big plus you get a rose and a glass of champagne. And about 100 yards before the finish line they hand off tiara's and pink feather boa's! I had a great time and would do it again.
