I'm signed up for the 10K at Tink. I completed my first 5K EVER on
Castaway Cay on Thanksgiving. My (unofficial) time was above the required pace for Tink, but I did not push myself due to hydration issues earlier in the week onboard the ship.
I have been following a modified Galloway plan and was on track until we left for our cruise, but have now fallen behind. My last "long" run was 4.3 miles on 11/17.
Now that I am home, I missed my scheduled 5 mile run on Sunday due to a cold. I feel more confident now that I have started up my weekday walks and runs again despite unseasonably cold weather here in CA (I don't envy those who need to train in weather below freezing).
Although I have walked regularly for years, my pace -- walking or running --is slow. I have only been running since January and have never been much of an athlete. If there is a silver lining to that it's that my 55 YO knees are in pretty good shape!
If I go back to my previously scheduled program, I would do the following "long" runs 6 miles this Sunday, 6 on the next Sunday, 7 the next, then 4, then 3.5, then the Tink 10K the following Saturday on 1/18. My goal on my "long" runs is to finish, no matter how long it takes.
In addition, I expect to do 45 minute runs (3 miles) 2X per week as well.
Although I not currently confident that I can finish the race at the minimum pace, I realized that deferral makes no sense for the 10K at this point. This means that I can continue working towards the goal right up until race day.
Any advice on whether I should modify my training schedule with only 6 weeks until the Tink? Thanks in advance from a newbie! -- Suzanne
