Official 2014 Dopey Challenge Thread!

Corral K for me!
And a friend who is going down with a charity group also has corral K! So I won't be running "alone"!:thumbsup2

So, that's corral K for both the Half and the Full Right?

Wondering how it will work for the 5k & 10k?:confused3
I did a Mickey Halloween 5k back in 2010, and while no corral placements nor official recorded times, they did have corrals to allow runners to place themselves as the runner felt appropriate, and there were timing mats as well.
I'm wondering if this will be the same for this 5k & 10k?:confused3

Yes, we get two bibs. The first is the 5 and 10k bib and then a second for the half and full.

The 5 and 10k will be corralled as well, it's just new that there are lots of folks now running who were not as worried about corralling as in the past. I am betting we will not know the 5/10k corral until we pick up bibs - and it would not surpass me to find a different bib number for those two races.

In the last couple years (or so) the 5k's have been corralled as well as the larger races. Expect 5-7 corrals for each race. I am certain the 10k is timed. I am also betting the 5k is still not timed but that we will have timing mats and a check mat at the start, IGate and finish. Otherwise it would be way to tempting for some to punt on the 5k.

Still hurt, but getting better, and I managed more than 3 miles without walks today. All I really want for Chirstmas is to be able to run 8 miles - if I can do that, I can get through the entire thing, though I long ago gave up the notion of it being a super-happy fun race.

good luck to everyone in the home stretch of training!

dh and i did a quick kid-less getaway this weekend to wdw and i spent some time visualizing the course. said a few times, "next time i'm here, i'll be at mile xx."

i clomped around wdw in a boot due to stress fracture in my foot. clearly my training has come to a halt but if i can walk around wdw in a boot from park opening to park closing and do ok then i can do the dopey challenge :dance3:

....though this weekend i constantly had a drink in my hand so i was feeling no pain.... :drinking1

I <3 you.

Yay! 3.34 yesterday, 3.57 today. Running style is still screwed up, and they are not light and fun miles, but they are a lot easier than they would have been 2 weeks ago. Feeling more confident about Dopey every day.

I ran 8 miles in CRAZY snow this morning. So slippery. I keep having to remember that this is the last week of crazy mileage and then I can enjoy myself.

My schedule called for 20-30 minutes so I ran 2.25 miles. SO glad to see that it will be almost 70* in jersey on Sunday when I do my 20 miler!

I wonder if they will have wristbands at the 5K finish for those doing the Dopey. That way, they would know you actually finished the race. Unless they 'do' read the B-Tag at the Finish Line just as a proof of completion, especially if you use the same bib for the 5K & 10K cuz it will have the chip. Those just doing the 5K will have a bib without the B-Tag so it would be easy for them to just lay out a timing mat at the Finish to record the Dopey runners' Finish.

yes i'm sure they will have to have a beginning and ending timing mat for the 5k this year. i think i remember the goofy results that are posted show the total time for the half and full together. so i guess they need to do that for the dopey challenge too...have a total time. which requires a timing mat.

i don't even want to look at the total time for me! with all the walking i'll be doing it sure won't be a PR ;) more like PW!

still dealing with annoying foot issues but was able to do 3.1 on the treadmill today. i just got the treadmill and man, i don't know how you people do those long runs on there! i am SO much slower on the treadmill than outside and it is very boring. hard to really zone out.

i wish they didn't get rid of the stroller division for the 5k. it would have been really nice to have the family be a part of this big dopey challenge. there is alot of guilt associated with these races when you have a family (or friends, or cats, whatever!) because of the time commitment and them having to spend so much of the vacation without you. sigh.

My IT band killed last weekend's long run, but I'm planning on re-trying after Christmas.

I'm actually pretty excited right now, especially since with the KT tape I seem to have had two whole pain free runs since Sunday!

So we are going to have to run with 10 different wristbands between races and race retreat. They could have tracked it with a bib. Not very good organization RunDisney.

You're correct. There still shouldn't be a reason for any wristband though. The bib tells them if you finished or not (maybe they aren't timing the 5k and/or 10k).

I assume they don't have the technology to check your bib for four races in any sort of timely fashion.

I think what has happened since they dropped the Goofy wrist bands was that they were handing out Goofy medals to folks who did not complete the half. I agree that the technology should work but seems like the technology is not hardened enough to perform the check at the line. I know that I was handed a Goofy medal the last couple races with little concern about the previous day.

I am certain the 10k is timed but believe the 5k remains untimed. I thought they would string a couple mats for the dopey folks as a double check.

While I am not a fan of having to go through a band line after a finish, I do appreciate the added verification(s) before handing out the Goofy or Dopey

I love them going back to wristbands. You feel part of a special club when walking around between races as you smile & slyly nod at others wearing them too.

So excited for this event--just a few weeks left to go.

Sadly, I hurt my right leg pretty good on a training run on 6 December. Cold weather had me on the treadmill all that week, and something just gave out.

Good news is that there is no stress fracture, bad news is no running until after Christmas. I am almost pain-free now. Biking and doing the elliptical.

Concerned about the weather. Coming from Montana, the heat and humidity will be a killer and basically marginalize the altitude advantage.

A Buddy is running with me, and our goals are to finish and have fun. So the injury is okay with regards to we are running it, not racing it.

I see that some folks have gotten their Corral information--did that come through email?

See ya there!

If they aren't timing, I'm walking!:cool1:

Last year for the Goofy I could take all the results for the 2 races and combine them into 1 file and match people by bib number to get total times for both races.
Doesn't look like I am going to be able to do that for the Dopey.
