Official 2014 Dopey Challenge Thread!

Awesome - where did you see that? I've been scouring the site for weeks looking for the updated information.

According to the FAQ on the RunDisney site: (Dopey Challenge section)

"You will receive two Dopey's Challenge bibs. You will need to wear the same bib for the 5K, 10K, and then the same bib for the Half Marathon and Full Marathon in order to receive the Dopey's Challenge medal."

Cool - thanks for posting that. I misread that initially I guess.

I'm gonna have so much post-race 'stuff' it's not gonna be funny.

It's roughly a mile from the Southwest gate at MSY to the long term parking garage.

That's gonna suck.

It's worth the extra $4 a day - park in short term. Or - better yet, get someone that will be travelling with you to pick you up curbside.

I missed the two bibs thing, that is great! I did Runner's World Hat Trick and by the time I finished all 3, my bib was a mess!
Track Shack is live now, so everyone should be able to get their waivers and bib numbers, and from what I can see, all Dopey bibs start with 3 :)

Yay! I'm 33513!!

Having an actual bib number makes everything so much more real. Which is both really, really exciting and really, really scary.

31739 here. Starting to get real.

Yes. Starting to feel nervous. 33 days from today. That is EXACTLY 5 weeks from now...which will be the 5k race.

So I have decided that when all is said and done and its complete and I crossed the finish line on two feet...I will treat myself to the biggest ice cream sundae...I already know what it will be...it will be my motivator.

Ran my first 20 miler of the season last night. I had to move it up to Wednesday night because of weather issue expected on Friday. Not sure I could have kept up the pace for another 6.2. At least there is a month left.

Well, that's part of the point of training, but you absolutely should not be doing your long runs at your marathon pace. You should be aiming for 60-120 seconds slower per mile.

Speaking of food, I'd like to try to nail down a good strategy for nutrition to get me thru the Half, recover & refuel, and then thru the Full.:stir:

Aside from what you found that I posted back in May, I'd also suggest moderately increasing your carb intake during the 3-5 days before the half. Don't go overboard, though. Carb loading is generally more effective if you add a little extra each day over a period of several days than by binging on pasta the night before the race. Be sure to increase your fluid intake over the same period too so you arrive at race day fully hydrated and over the dehydration that is common during airplane travel.

So spill. What kind of ice cream and where? No dole whip?

Lol.

Mocha ice cream (how many scoops remain to be known) hot fudge, marshmallow topping. Whip cream, walnuts and a cherry and chocolate sprinkles.

That is what I will treat myself to when all is said and done. So you will find me at the Fountain eating this.

That's not entirely true. It all depends on what you're training for. When going to have fun and enjoy the race and just finish, then yes, your long runs should be slower and in a moderate heartrate zone. If you're working on a BQ or a fast PR, then some or all of your long runs do get run at or near MP.

In four years of running I have never seen a BQ plan that advises more than a few miles at MP during your long run.

This exactly. You might even see some splits at or above threshold. Just depends on the runner. While I personally would never drop my time down that low, I can see some people who would. I guess it comes down to are you looking to survive the marathon or put up a good time?
