Official 2014 Dopey Challenge Thread!

So are any of you ladies going to Disney World and doing the Dopey by yourself? My husband and I are already going in November, so if I do the Dopey it might have to be a solo trip :scared1: I've never gone solo before, haha.

me and eldest daughter are going alone...no children and no husband (hers)....no grandchildren (mine):banana::banana:

And I am so very very thankful! At least you are able to update your time. Many of the events I register for don't allow any changes to be made to proof of time.

Don't wait! You have until 11/01/13 to submit your new time! I registered today and included a 15k time. Just started racing again post-baby. But I'll will be running 3-1/2s and a full in the fall and will update my time.

I think you're correct which may change the appeal of the runDisney events. It use to be considered a great "first" race for newbies.

I'll be solo Wed-Fri pm. My family will be joining me on Saturday afternoon. I have a 1yo so I don't want to disrupt her schedule too much.

Me too! Are you going Dopey?

I registered today for the Dopey RWC. Active.com locked up twice but it did open before 12pm. I may have sneaked in too early.

Also, I called the WDW sports company regarding travel packages today. If you are booking a room through Disney, you can add on the registration for the race and avoid the active.com fees. The fee for the Dopey was stupid!!! Grrr..... This is the first year they are able to do this. The guy I spoke with said their offices open at 8:30 but he wasn't sure if you'd have to wait until 12pm to book.
How much are the fees?

Hi!

Yes, Dopey. Yeah, $75 was steep for the privilege of registering.

Happy to have signed up and excited about the Runner's World Challenge!

me too.....I need all the help I can get (and Daughter along for the ride)...so, will be an investment in ME. That's a change been a long time coming.

Are there any special room prices for the event? I didn't see any posted on rundisney.com like there are for princess, wine and dine etc.

Will they actually pay attention to the emails to adjust proof of time?

I'm running the WDW full and plan to register on April 9 to make sure I get in! I do have a 10 miler race to submit for corral placement that I ran on Jan 1 this year. But I have a half coming up on April 27. I have gotten faster than I was when I ran my 10 miler and I am sure my half could move me up. So I'll email them my new proof of time. But my concern is, will they actually read it, acknowledge it, and adjust my corral placement based on an email? Anyone have experience of successfully getting moved up from submitting a proof of time via email?

I signed up for the dopey rwchallenge. Anyone know what "preferred corral" means? I think the extra money is worth it if that means Corral A for all of the events!

Yes they will move you up! For the half this year we submitted our tower of terror time after the fact and we got an email confirming they got it. The we got a second email confirming the changed our estimated finish time! Hope this helps ease your mind:)

I thought it was $65 to register for the RWC Dopey but can't remember. I'm sure it's a percentage of the entry fee.

You will need to call for the January marathon weekend rates. The smsller races only designate a few hotels while the marathon weekend includes all properties.

Call to confirm your new proof of time.

I doubt we'll get corral A with the RWC. I don't think I would want to be surrounded by fasties. I usually run a 9min/mile race pace but know I'll be quite a bit slower for the Dopey.

Unfortunately, yes, your corral will be an A or B (if done like last year). Sorry to be a little negative, but the reasoning for corralling is to place runners into an order approximating expected paces. Allowing a 15-16 minute pacer to purchase a spot into a 6-7 minute pace corral can create 'issues'.

Cewait, I completely agree with you but my reasoning for purchasing RWC wasn't for corral placement.

Jeez..... Tomorrow is the day the DVC and other sites open for entry. I simply cannot decide if I am dopey enough to run Dopey. For many of us, it is not really much of a stretch as we run 3-5 miles on Friday anyway. It is simply adding a 3 mile jog to the front of a long weekend.

What I struggle with is why? I do not need the extra bling (that may change once I see the 10k medal) and I have a stager who asked me to remove my medal display for the house sale. We are already discussing the current supply of running shirts and the fact that I occupy too much closet(s) space. The cost is not a real issue. I guess I struggle with the 4 days of hitting the Epcot parking lot at 0330. I will not add to the Disney stay experience and will likely head to work after the 5k and more than likely again after the 10k. I am somewhat concerned of injury from running in crowds on Th and FR... as opposed to the solitude of a running path at BWV. The latter statement is a Perfectly Goofy preservation issue.

So..... Dopey calls and I try to say no but I cannot seem to find the answer.

Uhhh I'm still waiting on the Disney visa email with the link for early registration! I got a response email to my question about if there would be early registration for Visa card holders and now it's a waiting game!! Has anyone heard if we will get to register tomorrow???

hmmmm....sounds a lot like my former chocolate addiction. Hurts me, burns my stomach, but still.....I can't have it in the house.

The link is up on the DVC site.. But seems to not be updated on active yet...

I don't have the perfect Goofy, no Goofys, in fact, so I am in the opposite boat. I did the half in January and felt like I hadn't done enough when I saw the folks with the Goofy medals on Sunday. I was planning on doing the Goofy, but because of the extra races, and bling, I felt like I would feel the same sense of missing out if I didn't go for the whole shebang of the Dopey.

If I had done all the Goofys, though, I think I'd be much more concerned with staying perfect than I would with completing the extra 9.3 miles.

It's up now through the DVC site, and updated with Active for those of you looking!

Did you have a successful registration on Active? When I went to register, the only options were "Deferral to 2014..." Marathon, Half, and Goofy. No mention of Dopey on that page.

I expect it will update at noon. And then we will crash the system.
