**** Official 2014 AUGUST - Disneyland thread ****

As someone who does not like rollercoasters, which is essentially what Six Flags is--thrill rides--I can understand how your mom feels. I'd probably only go on two or three things myself there, too. Disneyland/DCA is so different. It's very themed, and I can easily go on 15+ rides between each park because they are not so geared toward a certain type of park goer. Disneyland offers something for everyone. And even if you don't go on too many rides, there's also the spectacular shows, food, shopping, various acapella and singing groups, character meet and greets and so much more of you're not into rides.

My mum is also not a ride person, and is usually the 'bag minder' at theme parks. Disneyland is great because not only can she join us on the rides, we can take our bags with us on all of them, so she can feel free to do some shopping or look around at the amazing theming while she waits for us. She really enjoyed DLP, and I'm guessing that she'll enjoy DLR too :thumbsup2

I totally am. We still have a week till we can start. We are hoping to do the chef's counter at Napa Rose on our arrival day on the 10th and Blue Bayou sometime maybe Wednesday or Thursday for dinner but that's all I got so far. We made too many reservations last year and it felt way to structured for us. I think we may decide on any others later on. But those two are our for sure ones.

Can't wait!!!!!!!

So, besides watching Disney movies, I am wondering if anyone else does anything to pass the months while waiting? Just this weekend, I tried the mint julep recipe from the Disney Food Blog and boy it was spot on, at least DH and I agreed it tasted right. I know not everyone likes the drink but it is one of our favs. It was sure a nice taste of Disney while we wait for the next two months to pass

Really, all I've been doing is talking about it to everyone. I think they're either uncaring or not as excited as I am, which is fine. I also browse a lot of forums about Disneyland and try to look for new things to eat, see, and do when I'm there. As a previous resident of southern California and now someone who tries to get down from Oregon once a year, I've been to Disneyland plenty of times. But I know for a fact that there are some things that I've not done yet, and I'm looking forward to being there.

We are going Aug. 3-8. It's our first summer trip to DL. Usually we do Halloween or Christmas so hopefully the heat and crowds won't overwhelm us. We are not sure about dining yet but are staying at BWPP.:cool1:

Yay got the plane tickets over the weekend. Our trip to CA is officially set for 8/09-8/16 hitting Disney from 8/12-8/15. :cheer2:

It's funny because I thought that Disney would interest my parents the least but my dad said that it was because of Disney that he agreed on the trip. It was one of the places he wanted to go as a kid but never had the money. My mom's still on the fence about the parks but that might partially be because we just went to Six Flags where she rode 2 things. I will just keep telling her will be a lot more things to do for her at DL.

She will love it. And make sure she at least tries Soarin' over California. Both my mom and my MIL, who don't like rides much at all, LOVED it. It was their favorite thing at the parks.

We're planning our first DL trip (after many trips to WDW), and I'd love to know some of the other blogs or forums people look at for DL info. Do you have any you recommend?

AWE!! That's pretty neat that your dad was looking forward to the Disney part :)

You're almost under the 60 day mark - very exciting.

Wait I have to train for these races. :) I'm always training for something so it's going well I guess. These will be no pressure races - just enjoy the scenery and hit some photo ops. Thanks for asking and for keeping up the thread.

What?!?!:confused3 a 10K followed by a 1/2 marathon the next day is considered a no pressure race to you??? oh my gosh!!! You must be in incredibly good shape!!! I would #1... :faint: and then #2... for many days afterwards ROFL!!!

So I know there was talk earlier in this thread about refurbs, particularly the Matterhorn. Saw a post on the DIS today that it would be closed in August. Kind of differs depending on which site you check. One site more reliable then the others? Really hoping it won't be closed.

wah :worried: I had hoped it would be open.

Just booked our dinner at Goofy's Kitchen for August 2nd! Yay!! Our trip is getting so close! :goodvibes
 It IS getting so close isn't it?!?!?! I will add your meal to the list.

Anyone else thinking about reservations? I can make mine next Friday, but we are on vacation. I set myself an alert on my phone to help me remember. Thankfully, it's not as big of a deal as WDW reservations (which I have to make in July for our January trip, and that's so stressful!).

My DD4 is doing BBB our first day (August 12). I'm going to try for a first thing in the morning appointment.

I'm booking the Discover the Magic Tour for a surprise for DD4's 5th birthday (August 16). Then lunch at Storyteller's. She loved lunch there last December, so I decided that would be a good choice.

We are going to PCH Grill Surf's Up breakfast on our departure day (August 17).

We are spending the weekend in Santa Barbara, so we are driving down from there on Monday (August 11). I'm trying to decide on dinner. I'm leaning towards Catal, but I can't help but consider Goofy's Kitchen. We went to breakfast there 4 years ago and didn't like it at all. I'm considering giving it a second shot for the kids. DD4 loves all characters, and DD2 only really likes some of the furry characters and all the face characters. Goofy's has a mix, so that could appeal to them both. I would really, really love to meet Mulan, and that is the only place I have ever heard of her showing up at DLR. Thoughts?

I think I added this all to the list, but I will double check just in case.

We're going for a 9am-ish breakfast at LaBrea after the 5k (29th), and an 11:30am 'brunch' at BB after the 10k (30th).

I'm going to book a Walk in Walt's Footsteps tour on my birthday (but that's not until the September part of our trip), and I also really want to do a breakfast at Storyteller's, but can't decide when.

I will check to see if I have this info down too.

I will wait to hear for sure since you are still unsure. Let me know once you've booked though and I will add your info to the front page. You never know when a fellow DISer may be at the same place :D

When DD was younger we did Disney themed nights. We based it on a movie and did a meal, movie, and sometimes a craft all based on it. My favorite was our Tower or Terror night where we had a fancy dinner with the best dishes, and wine glasses, dressed up formally, and even took a family photograph. Was a GREAT way to get a formal picture of the 3 of us cuz how often do we dress up in formal attire?!?!?! We also watched the movie. It's a bit cheesy but DD loved it back then.
This time we are not sure if we'll do theme nights. We just seem so busy with DD now in high school :( I will DEFINITELY try to make a mint julep though!! And we always make a dole whip float leading up to our Disney trips. We also like to make a count down of some sort (usually Mickey heads from the Home Depot paint chip department).

WELCOME!!!!!! I will add you to the list. Glad to have you join us :thumbsup2

I'm busy training for the run! And organising our running outfits. Plus, there's still a lot to organise for our trip - I feel like I need MORE time until August :rotfl:

Anyone else thinking about reservations?

I've been thinking about reservations since we booked the trip back in March! Our countdown on the kitchen wall says 79 days (until our flight) so I still have a over 2 weeks before I can make reservations, but I already have them figured out. Not too many reservations this time around, since we know what we like and we don't really need reservations for very much. The plan is to do Goofy's Kitchen for dinner on the 22nd and Minnie and Friends breakfast on Saturday July 23rd. DH and I are going to do Fantasmic dessert on the 23rd and the kids are so excited to hang out at the hotel with a babysitter (because I told them they could choose a souvenir that morning to play with while they're in the hotel with the sitter.) We'll do Rainforest Cafe for dinner and many Storytellers for lunch, but I haven't figured out what days we'll go there. We might just make those reservations once we get there.

Really just Disboards, Micechat, official Disney blogs and the website. I do some Google searches sometimes to mix it up for "things you probably haven't done at Disneyland" and whatnot. It's very interesting to discover suggestions you haven't thought about doing.

There is SO much information on this forum and the other ones I mentioned that you should be more than ready to go on your first trip. I'd check out these links:

Would anyone be interested in a closed Facebook grouo for August Disers? (There's one for WDW but not DLR.) I'll start one up if you like, that way we can share pictures a bit easier than on here. I have nothing better to do today :rotfl2:

76 days to go for us!

I say "why not?" Participation is optional and I'm sure that many would enjoy it. I'm in.

Sounds like a great idea to me - thanks for volunteering :thumbsup2

Can you pm me your facebook name so that I can friend you and add you to the group? I tried to set up the group but it won't let me do it without inviting any friends to join.

Anyone else who wants to join, just pm me and let me know your name and I'll 'friend' you and add you to the group.
