Official 2013 Tower of Terror 10 Miler

Yeah, that's where I started last year... put simply, I was not impressed. He didn't do anything more than what I could find online, but for free. I tried my chiro as a last-ditch effort before quitting running altogether... she's a miracle worker. I really just got lucky that the one I called happens to be a runner, treats a number of local runners, and has also had experience treating dancers - we tend to have some issues that most PT's/Chiros don't understand. Like, I'm very, very flexible, thanks to a lifetime of ballet and yoga, which both presents its own issues and means that the stretches commonly used for ITB stuff don't work for me; I can fall into pigeon and stay there all day without effort.

My chiro uses Active Release Therapy, which is the #1 thing that seems to help, plus has stripped my ITB, uses accupressure, electro stim and laser therapy. WAY more than the PT my insurance would cover! :thumbsup2

Thank you, Princess V! Seeing this come through my daily thread update inspired me to look for ART practitioners in my area, after struggling with IT band issues since March. Stretching, strengthening, foam rolling, even a cortisone shot didn't seem to do the trick. I found a chiro who does it here in Topeka, KS, and I had my first visit today. I am already feeling soooo much more loose! He's given me the go-ahead to continue with training, is going to call and check on me tomorrow (how many doctors do that?!?) and I'm scheduled to go back next week. I may make it through the TOT pain-free after all!

I'm SO happy for you!!!!!

How do you know which one you are placed in?

Thank you

Go to your waiver and find your bib number at the bottom. Then there's a link on the rundisney page to the corral assignments, and find where your number falls.

...my training is the point of my RACE. I.e. I need the big goal to keep myself exercising, and it works! Even with injuries, if all goes well, I will have completed about 50 or so of the 56 workouts in my training plan over the 14 weeks prior to race. That is a reason to celebrate!

Dang, that's good stuff right there!

I also loved what cewait said. :)

::yes:: Yep, ditto for me! I think it's extra hard with Disney races, too; pretty much every training plan assumes - and encourages you - that adrenaline and excitement will make you faster on race day than in training. And that may well be true... but Disney races are crowded. And have things to stop and take pictures of. And sharp turns that require slowing down. I'm always much slower in a Disney race than in good training runs, but have turned in a PR in every non-Disney race I've run. It's for that reason (well, and because I can't afford runD anymore, lol!) that I'm planning to do more non-Disney long races after GSC; I want to really see what I'm capable of!

It mostly depends on how motivated I am to mix Nuun in the middle of a run. ;) My summer long runs usually end up like this:

Pre-run: down 16-24oz Nuun

First few miles: drink two 10oz bottles of Nuun (mixed at home)

Next few miles: drink two 10oz bottles of water w/ a little leftover Nuun (because I have a swish of Nuun left in each and don't want to lose time to pull out a fresh Nuun tab, so I just add water at a fountain)

Last few miles - realize I've stopped sweating. Pull Nuun tablet (already cut in half) out of waist belt and attempt to remove sticky cling wrap - drop one half of Nuun tablet on ground. Pick up, blow off dirt and decide to use it anyway. Open top of bottle #1 with teeth, toss in 1/2 a Nuun, add water, close cap, put bottle back on waist belt. Open cap of bottle #2, drop on ground. Pick back up, rinse off in fountain, add 1/2 Nuun, add water, replace cap, jam onto belt.

:rotfl2:

The intent is to drink Nuun the whole time, but it seldom actually happens.

OMG I almost spit out my coffee reading this! :rotfl2: :rotfl: :lmao: You're too funny!!

I'm glad that I'm going prepared with how crowded these races are. And the few I've done in training have shown me the contrast between less busy and busier ones.

The other night, my sister, my son and I did an Electric Run. There were so many people, lots of narrow spots with slow-downs, and cool light shows that people stopped to take pictures of. Partway through we renamed in the "Electric TROT" :rotfl:.

Then my son - who's 8yrs - called in the "Electric Unpredictable Pace"! :rotfl:

Let's just say that our pace was what we dubbed "horrific", but we had A BLAST!! We decided that "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" and we stopped to take some pics, too. So much fun. I want to approach ToT the same way - not for a PR of any kind, but just for fun. :)

Question - I am finding that after my 8 miles training walks that I feel like I have to shower. I know there is no showers after the TOT -

what is suggested? Take a washcloth and put it in the Bag place and just do a wipe down? or just walk around the party and shower when I get back?

what do you all do?

i'm going to take wipes and a small hand towel to try to clean up a bit.

and don't worry, the rest of us will be just as stinky!

Oh gracious I didn't even notice that. And I already talked to them about an error in the program guide and sent them a head's up for the Marathon guide based on an error they made for the 2013 program. They might shoot me if I tell them about THAT one.

(on the other hand, I just got a free Universal guide book b/c I pointed out a misspelling to them, and thanks from the Passporter people for noticing something apparently no one had ever noticed before, so sometimes places appreciate it!)

Funny, I send in comments about cut and paste errors as well as typos all the time. I gave up when a cut and paste error was corrected the following year but then reappeared in year 3. Maybe I should volunteer to walk over and help this year.

Are the photographers on the race course with the characters photopass ones by any chance?

I don't think there are actually photographers just handlers. I can't remember for sure though. All the other on course photography is from a 3rd party that is not Disney run.

Maybe you should. Someone is reporting on the Disneyland Half thread that the link to their finisher certificate not only has their info wrong, but the word "inaugural" is spelled incorrectly.

I'm having shoe "emergencies". Bad timing....such bad timing...

I hear your fear. I can tell you from running in both states I find little issue adapting. The largest difference will be the loss of the trades; the dew points may actually be lower.

Appreciate hearing about the adapting...I plan on lots of water - powerade the day before and that morning.

W ash cloth or moisture wipe would work... though really a change of clothing may give you all that you need. Regardless of the route taken, you will more than likely be sweaty again once you start moving around after changing clothing.

Someone I talked to yesterday mentioned that they bring baby wipes to help clean off the sweat. ;)

I was thinking about the wash cloth as well but am gonna do the wipes I think so that we can throw them away rather than having to carry them around - will discuss with my sister how we want to tackle this -

THANKS!

Well my broken toe has made running too painful. I was just not going to do the race. But I will walk jog it the best I can. I also have the 5k with my kid.
If I get swept at the 10 miler. I will be sad. I am not a runner but I liked the idea of Disney world races since I love Disney world so much.

I wanted to wish everyone good luck at the race. We are leaving soon for Disney world. I am so happy.

No, not photopass. All characters have a handler who will snap a photo with your camera. Most characters will have a photographer from Marathonfoto, the official race photographer.

What many folks do is carry their own camera, especially those with a smartphone. You end up with two photo options. Generally, the one on your camera is better mainly because you are focussing on the handler with your camera and not the Mf photographer.

Generally, I order the electronic package from marathonfoto if I get 4-5 decent pictures. It is a little pricey but then I do not carry a camera.

Believe it or not, your toe will feel so much better on race weekend. Good luck.
