Official 2013 Disney Princess Half Marathon Thread - Take 2

After the high reviews on this community and some recommendations from running friends, I finally bit the bullet and ordered a pair of CW-X compression pants. Well they arrived yesterday and I have I say I'm a bit overwhelmed!

I expected them to be small and require a bit to get on - but they're practically like spanx on me! They definitely felt great on my legs and I could see the craftsmanship/support. However the muffin top effect is a little less than comfortable (sorry if that's TMI).

For those ladies who also own them, do they stretch any ever? Is the muffin top indicative of needing a new size? They feel okay for the rest of the pant - really speedy in fact.

I have mixed feelings. I bought them with purple detailing in hopes that I could integrate them into my Rapunzel costume. But now I'm worried about the practicality of that idea for 13.1 miles. Maybe I ought to shoot for something more comfortable/loose?

I LOVE mine and they absolutely DO make a difference. But yes, wow, are they small and super tight when you first put them on. However, during the course of a long run, they definitely loosen up.

My problem is that I got the capris because I live in Maine so I train in cold weather. But there is NO WAY I can wear them for the actual race. OMG, one year it was so warm at the START that I had already sweat through my shirt just while waiting in the corrals. (So I am praying for a super cold race, like in 2010...most people hated it and were freezing but I was SO happy! lol) Anyway, my legs definitely feel it on race day...I definitely get leg fatigue during the race that I don't get while training wearing the CW-X capris.

Question for past Princess runners: do you recall the order of character photo ops along the course?

From reading various blogs and race recaps, I've got a rough idea of which characters typically show up where, but curious if anyone's already put together a list of expected photo ops by (approximate) mile.

Of course, it's no guarantee that everything will be the same this year...

Thanks!

I see that someone posted the schedule from last year. Like you said, absolutely no guarantees. And having done several Princesses, I will say that last year seemed to have significantly LESS entertainment/characters on the course than the previous 3 years. I was disappointed! I hope they got enough feedback from runners last year that they correct it for this year.

For me, personally, I don't like knowing who/what is coming up. It helps keep my mind off of running when I can get excited or surprised about whatever character/float/musical group I see up ahead.

I actually did a full 13.1 mile run today! So I guess I am ready! I only planned to do 10 miles today, but it was just one of those things and I went for it. Slower than my normal pace, but at least I know I am ready, which is always a good feeling. This will be Half #8 for me...and Disney races are my fave! In fact, having done several non-Disney Halfs and Tris, I can easily say that from now on I will ONLY do Halfs or Fulls that are run by Disney. Everything else pales in comparison when it comes to race organization, on-course entertainment, and on-course water/fuel/medical/port-a-potties, etc.

add me to the injured list. during my training for the full i got a nasty case of hamstring tendonitis. the pain manifested itself in the back of my knee. i couldn't walk for almost 3 weeks without a limp. i rested and pt'ed and all that and surprisingly i was able to do the full. i could only run 30 secs at a time so did a :30/:30 run walk run ratio.

anyway, i was feeling great after and have had a few good runs since then during my princess training. i went on a run on wednesday and decided to give it a try without the knee brace. bad idea. had to limp home.

so my plan is to pretty much do nothing for a while and then take it easy on the run and hope that my full training will keep me going through the end of feb.

good luck to everyone! i hope i run into some of you :) i rode the bus with betsy (ironz) and summer (cripey) back in 2011 and had fun meeting new people!

now if only those waivers would come out....

Hi! That's so awesome you did the full, congrats! I haven't had the nerve to bite off that much! Sorry you're hurting :( here's hoping we can all make it across the finish line with a smile...whether we're running, walking or crawling!

Hi, All!

I have a friend who is participating in the half marathon. She has an extra pasta party ticket and wants to sell it because one of the people in her party can't attend. Can she do that? I figured this would be the best place to ask. If not, please direct me!

If she can sell it and anyone here is interested, let me know.

Thanks!:goodvibes

Anyone?

Nancy, so sorry to hear your hamstring is still giving you trouble. You will be fine for the Princess. You made it through the full! I did a half back in November in the midst of training for the full. I hadn't run at all for about 2 or 3 weeks before it, life just got in the way. But I PRed! I think I needed the rest and was just fresh going into the race. You'll do great!!

I'll tell ya, with all our stories of trials and tribulations, injuries and other crap in our lives, we should write a book! Of course the ending would be us all doing the best we can in the 1/2!

Best running song ever! Princess and the Frog. "Trials and Tribulations, you know I've had my share. There ain't nothin' gonna stop me now 'cause I'm almost there!"

I noticed the lack of characters last year, too, but chalked it up to the misty / rainy conditions.

Good morning, Princesses! I'm going to bite the bullet and run inside today. Too cold again, but I'm trying to put a happy face on it and say it's time to test my costume and makeup in hot conditions. So, I'm all dressed up with nowhere to go but the treadmill. Here we go!

That sounds so tempting but I know my head would explode if I tried to do 10 on a TM. It's still under 20F this morning so I'm sipping espresso and waiting for it to get closer to the predicted high of 31F. At least it's sunny and not terribly windy. Last week my 10 in sub-freezing weather was kind of miserable. Let's see if I can tweak my attitude today. At least the crazy thaw and rain we had this week (the latter of which I got caught in on a run) cleared away some of the snow and ice!

Happy long runs, princesses!

The run Disney section on waivers changed. It always said that approximately one month before the race they would provide the waivers. Now it says two weeks. Wah. I want to know my number now!

Yep. Did my 10 miles of the TM yesterday. Actually it pushes me to get it done so I always go faster, finished in 94 min. yesterday. I'm such a fair weather runner and am hoping for nice weather next Friday for my 12 mile run.
I hope your outfit works outs. I'm still working on mine and this cold day is going to be a nice to get some work done on it.

Hi everyone! I have been a super creeper stalking this thread for a few months now, but I have yet to post anything. A little over a year ago, I decided to start running so I could run the princess half! I am not a natural runner by any means and I am slowly learning to love running (and I've also learned to really hate it sometimes :lmao:) I am a nursing student so my schedule is jam packed and I'm usually really busy. I guess I came here searching for some support from you lovely ladies. This morning I woke up before dawn to go after my 9 miler (my training plan has me going up to 10), I drove all the way to my route then chickened out because of the roadways being poorly lit and I didn't feel safe. Instead of just picking another safer route I felt discouraged and came home. Now I feel so frustrated with myself, I think I was just looking for any excuse to back out. Am I the only one who gets terrified before a personal distance record run? Sorry for this long rant, I have no running friends and I needed to vent to someone :(

So sorry you chickened out, but running in the dark is scary for most. You can still get a good run in if you have the time. Don't think about "how long" it will be. Break it down, take each mile at a time or think of it as first 5k done, second 5k done etc. Taking time to think about a special person in your life each mile is another distraction. Look around for things in nature that you may not have noticed before and think of how blessed you are to be able to be out running/walking. Enjoy your time alone with yourself and have fun.

Welcome PrincessKateNicole. Congrats on your journey so far. And please, please don't be discouraged because of one day. Look how far you come since you firs started months ago instead.

Honestly, your post couldn't have come at a better time. I have a crazy weekend and wanted to get my 12 miler in before the snow tomorrow so I woke up *super* early to get it in this morning - which is really out of character for me. Well after some rough miles, I was doing great and decided around mile 8 to take a new route home. Well I started to get a bit lost and went to check my phone - which promptly died :( I estimate I walked another mile or two out of my way until I found a subway to take home.

Needless to say, I was feeling unhappy about my phone and not having completed the mileage and getting scared about being lost - and decided to come to th DIS for support. But you reminded me that maybe I ought to take a dose o my own medicine. One rough day isn't going to and shouldn't define us. We've all put in a lot more training than that and im sure that's what important come the 24th :) best of luck to you.

Never ever doubt your Spidey Sense when it comes to safety. You did the right thing. Maybe you were feeling apprehensive about the distance, but if you ever feel that nagging sense that something's not right and not safe...don't do it. You just need to figure out how to get the long run into your schedule now. Don't worry about being off a day or two. That won't make a difference. You will do this.

And we'll be with you to run in the dark on Feb 24!!!

Welcome to the thread ! Don't feel bad about missing a run. Regroup and try again tomorrow. I missed a whole week because of a bad cold and went out yesterday and had a mediocre walk/run. I also am not a runner and actually walk more than run. My training plan also takes me up to 10 which I have done so now I am really just getting through my maintenance runs for the next three weeks until PHM. This is a great place to rant and there are soooo many supportive people. Hang in there it is almost over ! :cool1:

Welcome! The group of folks on here have been a lifesaver to me. I have no running friends, either but my co-workers are supportive. If you read through the pages, you will see that we all have our running stories to tell. Feel free to come and vent, I sure have!
