Okay, lots to report this week!

First, I put in 10.5 miles on Saturday - my longest run since the TOT 10-Miler in Sept! :yay: I opted to turn off my pace and distance alerts on iSmoothRun and only had it tell me time every 15 minutes. My goal was simply to go as long as I could at whatever pace felt good, tuning in to how my body felt rather than what the machine said...it was GREAT! Wound up faster and going farther than I thought (I did check it at what I thought might be about 5 miles - it was actually 6.6!) and it was a really good exercise in perception. I may leave it like that from now on. :thumbsup2

BUT... I did wind up with some pretty fierce ITBS pain in my knee for the last couple miles. :headache: It was still a little sore yesterday, so there was definitely inflammation, though it seems to be down today. Can any of my fellow ITBS sufferers confirm that this is just how it goes - some temporary setbacks - and that it doesn't spell complete doom?!

Back to good news, my race skirt arrived from Team Sparkle, as did my One More Mile shirt, so I finally have a race-day outfit put together! Have't gotten around to ironing on the tiara to my hat, but here it all is (cat not included on race day):

If it's actually warm enough for short sleeves, I have an old pair of black knee high socks I'll re-purpose as arm warmers and skip the long sleeve tee underneath.

I, too, am stalking the Track Shack page for waivers, lol!

I've decided to skip the 10K I had planned for this coming weekend and take my chances on corral placement. I know I'll need to walk quite a bit at the beginning to baby my knee and I have no interest in feeling like I'm in a stampede. I figure the only reason I could be swept would be due to injury, in which case I'd need to DNF anyway, so I'm just gonna roll with what comes and enjoy the journey. :goodvibes

What a great outfit! Can't say I've had the ITBS thing, sorry I can't help ya out. I feel whatever corral I am placed it, tis okay. This is my first 1/2, so I am truly blessed just to be able to participate. :thumbsup2

I just got the Ghost 5's and love them! I've been running the Pure Flows, but really felt like I needed more shock absorption on my long runs... the Ghosts are exactly that. I still have lots of room in the toe box, the heel is still nice and snuggly and they really don't feel like they have a massive heel-to-toe drop, but my joints were all soooo much happier after a long run in them. They remind me a lot of my old Nimbus 11s. Definitely worth a try! (ETA: BTW, I put in 10.5 miles in the Ghosts on Sat. after walking in them for a leisurely 1 mile and a 2.25 short run - no blisters, no rubbing, no nothing! I almost don't want to keep running any more training runs in them before Princess because they're PERFECT right now!)

ETA: I've also got a pair of Hoka OneOne Bondi B's on their way. Too many reports of them ending joint pain and muscle fatigue to ignore, so I'm giving the ugly shoes a try, lol!

Thanks for the feedback on the shoes. I'm not 100% sure the Nimbus 14 they put me in after Cumulus-Gate are right for me, so I may not end up putting too many miles on them before I try something new.

Cute outfit! And so happy for you that you had a feel-good run...I like those times when I too have just decided to go with what I'm feeling rather than what I think I should be doing for a run. I ran with the BF on sunday this weekend and he tries his best to stay slightly behind me so I can set the pace...otherwise he'd probably creep up in speed naturally and I'd wear myself out trying to keep up...so at one point he says "I think we might be going a little fast..." and I knew we were but I felt ok, it actaully felt GOOD so I said (in short heavy-breathing spurts!) "I know, but I feel good, so let's not ruin it for now...I know, I'll regret it in a mile or so, but oh well!" It turned out to be an ok run all in all...I probably should have saved that energy and ran my last mile with some extra speed, but whatever...it felt nice at the time :)

I wore sunglasses on my 1st 1/2 marathon in January and it kept my contact lenses from drying out.

I'm definitely wearing them again for the PHM.

Good to know! I have contacts but rarely wear them. I am planning to for the race, so I'll make sure the pack sunglasses.

Does anyone know if we can get Gatorade at the expo? I was told after the last time I got a cramp around mile 8 in the Tinkerbell for my second straight race to start drinking more Gatorade pre-race. Unfortunately I am traveling by myself without a rent a car so I cant go buy it easily at a store before entering the parks. So its either try to pack it in my checked luggage or buy it at the expo if possible.

Super cute!!!

I was wondering if you had any idea where I may be able to register for the princess half marathon. I waited too late and when I went online it was sold out. I was wondering if there was somewhere I may could go to register if someone had any spots available. Thank you.

thanks for the input...that seems consistent with what little I was able read about them over the weekend. I think they said the Gylcerine has a more solid mid and fore foot with a cushioned heel and the Ghost was more all-over cushion. I just end up comparing everything to the former Cumulus. I swear it was like that shoe was custom made for me...it was so perfect! I don't think I'll ever get over it :lmao:

I run in the Glycerins and have had some luck with them. I need neutral cushion and they are very cushiony. I used to have Nimbus 13s and then I tried the 14s and hated them so I went to Glycerins. I have a few other shoes that I've tried out (but not the Ghost which I'd like to try) and it seems like I keep coming back to the Glycerin, especially for my long runs. they actually feel a bit big/wide however they are the only ones that don't give me knee/shin pain so I'll sacrifice that big feeling for less pain! :thumbsup2

I don't recall seeing any beverages sold at the expo, but you can get Powerade all over Disney property. I'm a Gatorade girl though, and I always run with a hydration belt, so I always bring some Gatorade in my checked luggage...usually 2 of the larger sized bottles, so I can drink on them the day before the race too. I put each one in a large zip loc freezer bag and pray for no spillage...so far so good...and then the empty freezer bags come in handy for packing gross, sweaty race clothes on the trip back home :)

I'm not sure if they have Gatorade at the Expo. A couple of other options would be shipping the gatorade to your resort or using Garden Grocer or We go Shop.

Hmm... starting to panic about costumes. I really hadn't thought about it much. At first I was absolutely planning on a costume, then decided I probably wouldn't, but now... well.... I want to again.

The problem is, I can't decide on a princess. :rotfl:

Had a decent 7 mile run yesterday. Wasn't great, but I got it done. I know I'm not really where I wanted to be training wise for this race, but I know I'll be fine. My hubby, on the other hand, is WAY behind in his training and having a fair amount of pain in his left leg (shin & ankle).

We talked about him trying KT tape, but he doesn't want to shave his leg. :rotfl2:

PrincessV (and anyone else that might have any input from experience...) do I remember you saying a while back that you started seeing a chiro for some of your issues and that it helped tremendously? Do you mind if I ask what sort of things they are doing for you? I've had this new back issue crop up and a hip problem that I've had for what seems like forever and my trainer referred me to hers...I have an appointment on Wednesday. This back issue just cropped up during the Tink race and literally had me in tears post race, walking back to the shuttles...they are REALLY FAR from the finish at DL...and seems like even further when you're hurting. Anyway, my trainer said she wouldn't normally want someone to do something different this close to a race day, but if it was giving me that much trouble she's afraid it may sieze up on me during PHM so wants me getting some sort of treatment ASAP for the next few weeks. I'm just sort of curious what sorts of things they have done for you, if you didn't mind sharing?

I wear contacts for the bi focal. Otherwise I can't read my garmin

Typically in the past, I think Snow White is the most seen costume of all Disney Princesses. I don't see many Tiana, Jasmine or Rapunzel, though that may probably change.

Also, there is nothing wrong with shaving legs, a lot of male runners do it, I do it. I do it to allow my skin to let the body cool itself easier without the hair trying to insulate it, it may be a minimal effect, but in the long run, it could help just a bit.

Yes I did, and don't mind sharing at all! Just know that I'm not versed in technical chiro speak, so bear with me, lol!

I've mostly been going for my ITBS, so she hasn't done much for my back, specifically. But my hips tend to get out of alignment, so she checks that and often adjusts my lower back like this. Doesn't hurt at all and feels great.

For my ITBS, I lie on my opposite side, legs stretched long. While she digs into whatever spot she feels needs it in my hip and outer thigh of my top leg, I bend it until my toes are at the other knee, then slowly twist that leg down to the floor. Hurts a bunch, but might be the #1 thing working.

She also uses a massager that reminds me of the handheld machine one would use to power wax a car to help release muscles wherever it's needed.

To also relax muscles and to speed healing/reduce inflammation, she uses electric stimulation. Feels like a buzzer wherever the pads are placed and I can feel my muscles contracting over and over. Doesn't hurt, but it feels funny.

FYI, because all of these things move muscles in ways they may not be used to, I'm often a little sore for 24 hours after a treatment; I try not to make those running days. But I usually feel fantastic 24-48 hours later, always much improved!

I pack Gatorade G Series Perform 02, powder packs. One mixes with 20 oz. of water. The Powerade in the bottles may have High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS); that can cause some unfortunate GI issues for some. The Powerade powder mix used during the race has sucrose, not HFCS.

I'm planning on checking out the coolers on the refreshment venues at the airport.

This actually mixes better than one would expect. It would be nice if you had a fridge in the room so you could mix at a warmer temp then chill. You may also want to back off adding the entire package to assure that you do get a good mixing.

With regard to delivery services... it may actually be cheaper to hail a cab to the nearest 7-11 than to pay for 8 bottles plus the delivery charge.

Thanks for the helpful info! :) I've never been to a chiro and I'm sure I have archaic thoughts about it, but everytime I think about going I think of someone trying to twist and crack me all over and me walking out hunched over in more pain than I came in with :lmao: The massage aspect of it that you described sounds like it really might be what I need. I get an all-over massage at least once a month, but I think this will be a nice addition. Thanks again!

My pleasure! I felt exactly the same "archaic" way, lol! It was total desperation that sent me to a chiro, but I'm so glad I went. :thumbsup2

I forgot one other critical instrument she uses - reminds me of a little electric hammer, but I believe it's called an activator. It kind of taps a certain point super fast. I have no idea what it's actually doing, but it really seems to help when things feel out of whack! It bruises me in less fatty areas, but doesn't hurt at all.
