I am in for my second Disney full in 2013. I had an amazing time last weekend, and cannot wait to do it again, even as my body is still in “holy geez” mode. Looking forward to the 20th Anniversary Medal. I figure that Goofy can wait until 2015, when it’s the 10th anniversary, right?

DH and I are planning on the half in 2013 and then the Disneyland half later in the year for our first Coast to Coast! I'm so excited! We did the Wine and Dine last year and had tons of fun :goodvibes

Like a lot of you, I figured the dates would be closer to what they were this year but I guess its looking like the half will be on 1/12 and the full on 1/13 next year. I'm a little disappointed that Christmas decorations won't likely be up still but at least all of the holiday crowds will be gone :thumbsup2

I'm hoping we will have a pretty mild December next year like we did this year in Michigan so training for this won't be too icky for us.

I actually did figure that the race would be the 10-13th weekend. There’s no way that Disney was going to put on a race New Year’s week.

I guess I don't know what I was thinking. They had the races pretty close to New Years this year but with leap year being this year it pushes New Years to Tuesday next year so that is a bit close to New Years Day to hold marathon weekend. I'm glad it won't be the same weekend, I've read reports of it being pretty crowded in the parks over the weekend.

I am sure they liked the date too..1.13.13 ! I think the only crowds will be everone in for the Marathon weekend, as its sandwiched in between New Years week and MLK weekend.

OT...Is that a cute Choc Lab you have for your avatar? They are the best! Ours is Bailey!

I like the date too! 13 is my favorite number. If only that was the date for the half. I'm not sure if I can pull off the full marathon. After running my first half, as much fun as it was, I distinctly remember thinking I have no desire to run a full!

And yes, that is our chocolate lab. Her name is Cooper and she's a bit more grey than when she was in that picture but just as wonderful! She's about 80 pounds but snuggled up on my lap right now as if she was a lap dog :confused3 Such a snuggle bug!

Howdy everyone!

I'm an "old-time" WiSHer - I began running with the encouragement of this group in 2008, then ran the half in 2009 and the full in 2010. For various life reasons, I have not run a race since then, and have been inconsistent with doing any exercise at all. I am now ready and eager to get back into the swing of things, and nothing motivates me like a Disney race with my WiSH buddies!

I am planning to at least run the full next year, and maybe (if training is going well) I will do my first Goofy! I am planning to do the Broad Street Run here in Philadelphia in May as my first step on that journey, and have my training plan for that all written up - it's a great race if anyone wants to join in!

I also need to lose some pounds so you may see me on that thread as well.

I hope a few of you remember me! I look forward to spending more time here - I have always gotten so much amazing support here.

Kira

PS I also need to do some photo & signature updating - I haven't updated my blog in years! Yikes!

butiflfeet Another Michigander here. I have trained for DIsney in all conditions. This year was definitely the best. But I do recall doing my 20-miler for the full in late 2009 through snow and sleet, slip-siding all the way. I was close to tears when I was done!

Kira Good to "see" you again and good luck with training.

While I was racing on Sunday (the relay) I thought "no way I'll do Goofy next year". But the meadal calls to me. I felt like a slacker only doing the half. Plus, I wouldn't have to race Goofy--just run it. So I may be in. I am also planning to do New York, though. So I have to figure out how this will all work.

I am definitely doing the marathon next year and hoping to go Goofy.....just not sure if my body can handle it. My running career started only 15 months ago so this might be a stretch. Looking forward to next year already....the Mickey medals are beautiful. ;)

Happy running, Pam

Well, during my first W & D half in 2010, I was thinking at mile 8, Why am I doing this, I will never do this again!!! And here I am , Princess will be my 6th Half! AND I had no desire to ever run a full....but now I do! I have to challenge myself now...however, lets see how I am a year from now afterwards! LOL
We are planning a Vow Renewal 10.13.13....which is my bday too...Your Cooper sounds like our Bailey...! THinks the foam roller means time to play! NOT lol

I felt the same way during the relay! But I swore I would never do another full marathon after completing the L.A. Marathon in 1999...so far so good. :thumbsup2;)

I am getting envious of the Mickey medals though. :rolleyes1

Well, I never thought I would say this, but I'm on board for either my second 1/2 or to be a part of the marathon relay in 2013. I was really happy with how I did for the 1/2 this year but had a hiccup which I want to remedy the next time.

My poor husband at mile 4 had his shin splints so bad to the point that he called me asking what to do. I backtracked to him and got him to a med tent. They immediately told him he couldn't run and deactivated his bib - didn't even give him a choice in the matter. Although we talked about not worrying about the other re times and not running together, we never talked about what to do if injury. He demanded I go on though, so feeling guilty, I did. I lost about 15 minutes helping him which I would do again in a heartbeat, but it messed my time up, obviously.

So factoring in the 15 minutes extra, I finished about 15 minutes behind the time I thought I was going to finish. I also felt like Bruce Jenner bc I'm usually the one to the far right being passed by people but this time I was a leftie passing more people than I had ever had in my racing life! I even had to go off the road and on the grass a lot to get around people. I probably would have missed a lot of that if I hadn't had the extra 15 minutes, which would have made me even faster.

So, I now want to do the race again to see how I can do without any issues - onward to 2013!

Just wanted to get this into the thread before I forget in November/ December.

We stayed at the Boardwalk Villas, and both days, we drove to the start of the race. Both days, left BWV at 3:30, and were parked in EPCOT parking lot by 3:40.

Saturday, my father drove, parked, and when we left for the start, he just drove back to BWV. Sunday, I drove myself. No issues either day.

Not too much of a concern this year, but in 2010, it was certainly nice to have a car to sit in until time to head for the corrals.

My wife and I did our first half this year, and had a blast.

Today, she let slip, "when we go again next year...", so 2013 Half Marathon, here we come! Woo hoo!

Doug

In for the Princess 1/2 next year! Really excited but nervous since it will be my first one! Good luck everyone with your training!

Ok fellow DISers, a question for you.

I am planning to run the full in '13, it will be my first. I have run 7 halfs so far (with one more on the schedule for this fall). My running coach is going with me to Disney, and he is doing the Goofy. He is really trying to get me to go for it too. But I am nervous about being able to do almost 40 miles of running in 2 days! He is an experienced runner and triathlete, and I don't doubt that he feels I can do it. I am just not so sure for myself.

So my question would be, is it crazy to Go Goofy for my first marathon experience? I would most likely opt to take it easy on the half and give the full all I've got. I am not looking to PR the half, and since its my first full, its an automatic PR!

Talk to me folks!

Sign me up for the Princess Half in 2013! princess:

I am a complete disaster fitness wise, but I am determined to get healthy for my girls. (Avery is almost 4, and Carsyn is 6 months.) At this point, I can't walk down the street without getting winded, so it's going to be a struggle. However, I am ready, willing, and ABLE to do this.

I am starting out with a modified C25K plan. I'm slowing it down to prevent injury, as I have a bum foot that I have to watch. This first week will be 30 sec:2 min run:walk. I may repeat that depending on how it goes, but I've completed two runs so far with minimal soreness. I'm using runkeeper on my iphone to cue my intervals and track my pace and mileage. I'm hoping to be ready for a local 5K in late March/early April, and I'm seriously considering the Peachtree Road Race (ATL) in July.

Hi all  May I join in? I've never been a runner... but I'm on my way to becoming one, I guess, lol! After cheering on the marathoners this year and talking with a friend who ran the WDW Half, my nine-year-old son convinced me to enter the 2012 Royal Family 5K with him. I'm definitely planning to do an event or two in 2013, hopefully the Princess Half. :yay:

I'd say I'm in okay shape to start - walk/run regularly, yoga on off days, sometimes some ballet or Zumba - but just started distance training this week... so far, so good! Timed my starting pace at a 14.2-minute mile, alternating 15 seconds run/ 45 seconds walk. So I'm sure I can finish the 5K - question is, can I keep up with my son?! Definitely need more training. ;)

Congrats to you! Since you've been running half marathons, you already have a good fitness base. My suggestions: keep it up by running 4-5 days per week; register for a half marathon in late summer/early fall to make sure you are motivated to continue running throughout the summer; and then ramp up your marathon training in September.

As I mentioned in a previous post, Hal Higdon's free training plans are my favorite. Go to http://www.halhigdon.com/marathon/Mar00index.htm and see the novice plans on the left of the page. Lots of people also like the Jeff Galloway plan of running and walking. You can combine both plans.

Thanks for the information! I refer to Jeff Galloway's plans for the most part, but I will check our Hal Higdon. Right now, I am ramping up to the Princess Half...44 more days!
