Official 2012 Wine and Dine ½ Marathon Thread

I haven't looked at what they are saying for this year, but if 7:00 is when they start then I would be in line no later than 7:00. The traffic situation was such last year that the buses got near the start and then just stopped. It was very backed up and congested. We were on the first or second bus from BW and by the time we got on the bus the line went from the convention center back to the lobby and was 3 or 4 deep. I know a lot of people complained about it last year.

Transportation is one of those things that stresses me out, so I know I would much rather be relaxing at the start than stressing out in line or on a bus.:goodvibes

The transportation last year was vastly improved over the first year. But I agree, better to get there early and chill out (and use the port-a-potties frequently) than get filled with anxiety that your bus isn't going to make it and stress out about that.

If we need to be a WWOS by 8, what time do they expect people to in their corral?

Walking around WWOS will be ok but I don't want to stand around in the corral with noting to do except wish I had gone to the bathroom (again)!

Someone mentioned the "H" word ... please say it ain't so (humidity!). Low 60's sound good to me, especially without the darn sun. I hope it's a clear night for stars and the moon.

They will say 9:30 for the latest time to be in your corral. The earlier you head to your corral, the more likely you are to be nearer the front.

What about leaving a car in the parking lot at Epcot/finish line? We will have a rental car and I was thinking of driving to Epcot and taking a shuttle from there....will they be available??:confused3

That should be an option, as it was in the past. You cannot park at WWoS, so I am not sure where else they would have you park.

I am hoping for race temps in the 50's. I know that may seem chilly to some, but I have found I run better and have better chip times when it is cooler. And being a hot sweaty mess for character photos is no fun.

Bag check should be pretty smooth this year, if you are checking a bag. In case of cooler weather post race, I am packing a long sleeve shirt and jeans to change into along with my t-shirt and shorts and windbreaker.

And don't forget the baby wipes. So fresh smelling.:flower1:

Okay, now you guys have me all freaked out about the start:scared1:! We're not staying at a host hotel so we were going to drive over to Epcot at 7 and then catch the bus over to WWOS and hang out until WISH pic time. Since we're starting in the last corral:woohoo: and its scheduled to start at 10:25, what time should we head in to the corral itself? I'd hate to have to stand around in the corral for an hour:eek:. Would it be considered rude if we brought a couple of ratty towels or something to sit on inside the corral? :worried:

For all you humidity haters (myself included), this time of year it's normally not an issue. It's been absolutely gorgeous down here since last Saturday. How does a low of 55 with winds less than 5 mph on race night sound? A little on the chilly side for me but great running weather I'm thinking.:thumbsup2

Not rude at all. Planning ahead is a good thing. You may find that some fellow racers jealous of you for doing that.

The corrals will move up progressively. Wave A starts at 10. Once they are off, Wave B moves up to the A spot and waits for their release. And so follows the rest of the corrals, until the final corral is poised to go at 10:25. So you start moving again every 5 minutes. It won't be standing still for an hour.

If it can be 55° with light winds, I think that sounds wonderful. Maybe chase off the people from the After Party that don't have a runner in the race.

Can someone answer this question please....there are 4 of us running and we won't stay together but want to meet up afterward...

Is there a place to change clothes at the finish line or will we need to venture into the park? I take it that the bag pick up is at the finish line (nearby) right??

As we have a small cheering section going with us, that's what we're planning on doing. They can go with us to the start and then take the bus back to Epcot (and our truck) and get started on the partying portion of the program waiting for us to get there. Anyone else up for stopping for a little Bailey's on the way past the UK?:rotfl2:

According to the official race map, this is what the finish area will look like:

So yes, there will be a place to change prior to entering the park.

Me too. In my ideal world, it would be 68 until 10pm, when it would drop to 60 and then down to 50-55 by 1:30am. The problem with the lows of 63 degrees right now in the forecast is that the lowest temp has been happening around 5-6am, and if it's a low of 63 at 6am, it will be above that during the 10pm-2am race time.

But honestly, as long as it is not precipitating or really humid, I'll be happy with anything in the 60s!

May also have been asked but..... Can family come to watch the start of the race. They certainly won't be up for the finish! :rotfl2:

Finished my last long training run this morning in the 39 degree weather. Ran 12 miles in 2:05. I think I am ready for next week, and barring any crazy weather changes, I should easily meet the goal I set of 2:30.

That's my plan. According to the knowledgable runners on this thread :thumbsup2, they can watch the start at WWOS and then take the bus back to Epcot:drive:. There won't be any other vehicle traffic allowed at WWOS that night other than the buses. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong on this....

If you are running your LSR at a very easy pace, you're going to come closer to 2:00 once you're racing.

Just curious, what's everyone's long run this weekend?
I know there are several training plans out there.

So excited this is in a week!!!

With race adrenaline, I bet you're closer to 2:00. Great time!

I did my long run last Sunday.... 26.2 miles (Marine Corps Marathon). I also ran four miles on Tuesday. That's it for me no more running until W&D weekend where I will run the 5K and half. I will work on core exercises but that is about it because my puppies are sore.

Congrats on the Marine Corps Marathon! I bet your puppies are sore! I've had a few short runs doing recovery from Myrtle Beach Half I did on the 20th.
Plan on doing 8 miles on Sat.

I haven't done a full, you expert runners have all my respect!!:worship:

Planning on an easy 45 minutes tonight (as long as this little cough I have is nothing:worried:) and 10 miles on Sunday. Tuesday will be another easy 45 mins. and probably 1-3 mile easy jog on Friday once I'm at the Mouse. Yoga Monday and Friday to hopefully keep my head from exploding from all the adrenaline/stress/excitement/nervouseness.:dance3::scared:

I bow :worship: to the Master! Depending on how my knee holds up after this rampage, I just may start getting serious about knocking 26.2 off my bucket list! :cool1::banana::woohoo::yay:
