Official 2012 Wine and Dine ½ Marathon Thread

You'd think with it being September 25th, the temps would at least slightly cool a bit. Nope. Heat index is near 100 right now. I used to run at 8pm after my kids went to bed because it was still light out, and I'd be able to catch a game of soccer (a soccer team practicing against each other). But it gets dark much earlier now and I don't feel comfortable running alone in the dark. So I went for my run today when DH got home from work and it was rough. I got in only about 2 miles before I really needed to get back inside. On the plus side, I am in brand new running shoes and did increase my time by a slight bit and was only tired out due to the high heat...not because of the run itself. I can't be more grateful this is a night race in November.

Oh dear. I hope it cools down for you soon! New shoes always put a spring in your step, huh? I am SO glad this is a night race too.

Looks like temps here will finally get "down" to the mid 80s the next 10 days. Still too hot for my liking for a run, but I'll take that over near 100.

Just wanted to say "hello" to everybody. 6 more weeks to go! Anybody else loving these cooler nights/mornings? It's been in the 60's nights/mornings around here. I hope nice and cool at night for the Wine and Dine. Got the 11 mile run coming up Friday and I am nervous for another "never been that far" run. Going to do my best to hydrate and eat properly tomorrow to avert tummy issues this time. Hope you all are doing well.

Hello right back at ya!

Finally starting to get some cooler weather here in Florida. Really looking forward to Wine and Dine, too.

Got 8miler this week, but already been putting in double digit runs.

I did my 11 mile last week since I'm working towards the marathon in January. It was a little rough, but doable.
Good luck on Friday! :woohoo:

My 11 mile run is on the schedule this weekend too. I'm actually a little nervous. I found 9.5 to be really hard for some reason and while I think I can get through the 11, I'm sure I'll be slower than i want and that will depress me. I know it's all about the mileage but due to "life" I'm not where I wanted to be at this point in my training and now I'm fairly certain I'm not going to make my secret wish time goal. Anyhow- I have been dealing with some nasty stress headaches and now I have jaw issues... Trying to sort out what sort of food I can eat/drink over the next day or so that can sustain me through 2+ hours of running! Thank goodness though that I actually feel so much better while running and after. Yay for endorphins and adrenaline.

I have my best friend's bridal shower to host on Sunday so I really hope I recover FAST from the run and that my jaw settles down so I can talk! Lol. Off to cross train!

I am unbelievably happy. Today's high was supposed to be around 90...but it has been rainy since last night and it is only 66 right now! DH gets home in a couple hours and I will be going for my run. SO looking forward to running in MUCH cooler temps as well as a bit of rain, especially after such a lousy run the other day.

I love running in the rain. Maybe not a torrential downpour but a lite drizzle. Great stuff.

Enjoy that run!

I just had a fantastic run!! My pace is still what it normally is (14-15mpm), but that's ok. Man does temp make a HUGE difference for me. My run two days ago in near 100 degree heat was a total bust and I came back inside panting. Today, in just under 70 degree temps, I was not even out of breath and felt I could go for so much longer (and probably would have gone a bit longer if not for the food in the oven). Seeing this major difference in just a couple days makes 13 miles seem way less daunting!

Yea!!!!!!! Yes, the heat makes all the difference in the world. I had one of those rainy days at the end of Summer - 60's and it was glorious! So glad you got a break with the heat. Hopefully it will be nice and in the 60's for the Wine and Dine. When will it cool down for you?

Slower's fine as long as it gets done. I hope you get to feeling better! Hang in there. Oh, and yes, endorphins and adrenaline. Feels so good!

Not entirely sure. The highs over the next 10 days are in the mid to upper 80s....blech. Maybe, hopefully, next month some time.

I booked a 2-bedroom at SSR shortly after the race date was announced but before the sign up opened. It was definitely within the 7 month window as my home resort is HHI. Would have preferred BWV or BCV but I knew our chance was basically ZERO! Think Kidani was also available but we went with SSR because of a counter service restaurant.

Thanks for your reply...I was thinking about booking the same weekend next November and hoping I guess correctly, but I know they've moved this race once before.

I was thinking they may keep the same weekend for next year... but on the other hand, I am wondering if they may wait to see how this particular weekend works out. It is Jersey Week that week, and combining that with the Half Marathon Weekend, and the end of the F&W Festival...well, it will be interesting to see how everything works out. I am betting they keep the same weekend, but am not eliminating it being changed. Anyway, just thinking out loud.

I walked 13 miles last week and looks like I'm doing it again on Monday! I think I'm ready for the Wine and Dine, just hope that the weather will be nice!:hippie:

Back on track with 7.5 miles right under 1:30 - not this fastest ever, but didn't feel like I was dying at the end. I'm sure cooler weather and lower humidity in VA is huge help right now. Only interesting this is I have gotten a faster time using the Galloway method - haven't decided if train running then switch to that before the Half or not to make sure I finish with "fuel in the tank"

Today was supposed to be my longer run of 11 miles. Got up and had glucose tablets put aside so I could munch on one or two every couple of miles. Opened up the tablet holder...just to discover I had only one left. Fortunately, I had some Teavana rock sugar on hand, so I filled up the rest of the container with that since they're exactly what they seem: little rocks. Easy to suck on as if they were hard candies. Headed out and got in 8 miles before it started raining pretty hard, sending me inside. I could have easily reached the 11 miles without straining myself. So I am feeling pretty confident about the half...well, as long as the weather cooperates that night. :) Now I just need to go out and buy some honey stingers.

Heading out in about a half hour for my 11 miler. I managed to be "good" and not screw up my diet like I did before my last long run, even tho I'm eating only soft foods. Fortunately pancakes are soft - Lol! Anyhow, weather is supposed to be overcast in the low 60s. As long as the JV football game ends on time, i should be all set. I really miss running at the track from the summer. It's in a beautiful setting and no dogs!

Glad to hear everyone's runs seem to have gone well this weekend. Hope I'll be joining you in that by tonight! Off to fiddle with my playlist.

I was looking at the course map last night and one question. Why is the food stop so far into the race? Just after mile eight?

That seems so late in the race to even matter.
