Official 2012 Wine and Dine ½ Marathon Thread

I chose a running belt that has one holder for one water bottle and enough room in the pouch to hold my rather bulky cell phone, ID, energy chews, and other incidentals I might need for after the race like cash, etc. It was made by Camelbak. I have seen some that have room for more water bottles.

I do recommend putting a sports drink or something similar in your water bottle. For my first 1/2, I just went with water and rarely drank from it. For my second 1/2, I used powerade and used it a lot more especially as it was still cold for much of the race since I froze it the night before. In the heat, the cold felt good since most of the water stops had lukewarm water/powerade which I still took every single time.

thanks - I want a belt that can hold powerade and my iphone, so I will look into camelbak. I don't want it to be bulky or uncomfortable though!

The bulkiest part of mine is the water bottle holder. It takes up a lot of space, but it holds a decent sized water bottle which is why I chose it. It's not at all uncomfortable.

I have another dilemma. I was able to get an ADR for my favorite WDW restaurant Le Cellier, but the only time available is Friday night at 9:05pm. Does that give me enough time before the Wine & Dine 1/2 the next evening so I'm not weighed down by that heavy meal or should I look at canceling it?

Me personally, I would keep the reservation, but not go crazy at dinner.

On a side note, I have always wanted to eat there. Enjoy!

Me too! I'd keep it, just make sure you don't eat anything too greasy - since the race doesn't start till 10pm its not like eating Thr night before.....more like the afternoon before.

Oh, running belts. I have 3...largely because I keep finding something better.

My first is a Nathan 5k pouch. It's large enough to hold my iPhone and work pager when needed. Downside: it flops around, no matter how tight you cinch it.

Number two is the amphipod 3 water bottle belt with iPhone pouch (set from Lululemon). The downside to this one is the pouch is small and it sits tight on your natural waist, which creates an unflattering underbelly for anyone who doesn't have six pack abs. It is very comfy, though.

I also just bought an ifitness double pouch belt. You can add water. I wore this at the Disneyland half and it didn't budge an inch (it sits on your hips). It is hard to get the phone in and out since it's in their tightly, so I put all the honey stingers in the other pocket so I wouldn't have to juggle stuff. I like this belt because it's extremely low profile, yet holds quite a bit. I don't want my belt competing with my team sparkle skirt for attention! :)

Out of curiosity... is anyone doing a costume?

I am! First time doing a costume for a run. Cinderella. When will I ever be able to dress up as her again? (Well, if I did the Princess, but I don't see me going back in Feb. I hope to be skiing then!) I'm still wearing comfortable running attire and making some tweaks here and there. I still need to test it on a long run soon. Comfort above costume will prevail though. :) I can't wait!

So not a "costume" as I'm pretty particular in my running gear, even down to the socks. However, I do "dress up" as I have a purple - Will run for Wine shirt and black shorts/running pants (TBD based on temp). Plan on accessorizing with purple extensions and glow necklace/bracelets.

I have a Nathan Speed 2 hydration belt. It's my second running belt purchase. My first one was a belt & clip close ensemble and shifted up my hips all the time. I hated that. My new Nathan 2 belt has a slight elastic waist belt with a velcro closure and actually sits on my hips where I fasten it without riding up. I also like it because the water bottles keep it balanced and not weighted off to one side.

This is the belt I am thinking of getting so I am glad to read about your experience with it...especially since I will be wearing a team sparkle skirt also! :)

How are we defining not going crazy? Is the cheddar cheese soup and a steak okay? That's what I'm likely to order. Le Cellier is my favorite restaurant on property, but I do not want to chance screwing up the race.

The belt I mentioned earlier works fine as far as snugness goes. Once it's on, it stays where it's supposed to with no noticeable movement.

So I don't handle red-meat very well prior to running.....given that I was starving the day before our last half and hit up a Taco Bell 12hrs before and was fine. I would just keep the portions small and stay away from alcohol.

My answer would depend upon your history. Do meals you eat 24 hours prior to your long runs have negative side effects?

I know my tolerance for foods would easily accommodate that meal that far before a race. A yogurt 3 hours before, not so much.

Wow...a lot of good information in this thread! I read through all 43 pages yesterday and my head was spinning...

I have a couple/few questions that I didn't see answered that maybe other members might be able to help me understand. I also know that the race is at capacity, but I'm thinking ahead to 2013.

1) Any DVC members staying on points, when did you make your reservation?
The reason I ask is that it seems like the W&D 1/2 Marathon dates were announced less than 11 months ahead of the race. I'd like to make my reservation early, but I need to borrow points to do so. I'm afraid of guessing the wrong week and being stuck with borrowed points

2) If you do not own at any of the host resorts, did anyone have any luck getting a DVC ressie on points at the 7-month mark? Are you better off just booking your home resort and waitlisting?

3) Are there any packages available through runDisney that do not include the room? I realize I can get the DVC discounted entry, but is there anything else I'd miss out on ( discounted tix, souvenirs etc?)

Thanks in advance, you're all the best!
Remember to thank the support, spectators, and volunteers, too! I ran the Goofy a couple years ago and everyone involved makes these events so Extra Magical!

Good luck to this year's runners!!!

I booked a 2-bedroom at SSR shortly after the race date was announced but before the sign up opened. It was definitely within the 7 month window as my home resort is HHI. Would have preferred BWV or BCV but I knew our chance was basically ZERO! Think Kidani was also available but we went with SSR because of a counter service restaurant.

I bought a belt that will hold my iphone but not have room for water. I also bought some GUs to try out. I hope it doesn't make me barf! it says to follow with water, so I guess I will eat it (drink it?) around the times I'm near water fountains on my long runs. does that make sense? I'm so confused!

I have yet to find a belt that holds water bottles and fits me well enough to wear on my long runs. My solution has been small hand-held nike bottles that I fill with powerade to start & refill in fountains as I need to. (This requires some serious route planning though) I like to run with 2 of them so I feel "balanced"

Now I just need to find a comfortable belt for my iphone & fuel and I'll be set for the race. :)

I have an Ifitness belt with the bottle holders. I've modified it by sliding on 2 bottles from my amphipod belt. It holds my iPhone and has the loops for my race number too. I mostly walk with a little jogging and it doesn't move around.

Except during the Disneyland 1/2 when I decided to slide my camera case onto the belt and every time I tried to run the extra weight made the belt slide.....because it wasn't designed for it! I didn't follow my own advice of nothing new on race day :-).

You'd think with it being September 25th, the temps would at least slightly cool a bit. Nope. Heat index is near 100 right now. I used to run at 8pm after my kids went to bed because it was still light out, and I'd be able to catch a game of soccer (a soccer team practicing against each other). But it gets dark much earlier now and I don't feel comfortable running alone in the dark. So I went for my run today when DH got home from work and it was rough. I got in only about 2 miles before I really needed to get back inside. On the plus side, I am in brand new running shoes and did increase my time by a slight bit and was only tired out due to the high heat...not because of the run itself. I can't be more grateful this is a night race in November.

Just wanted to say "hello" to everybody. 6 more weeks to go! Anybody else loving these cooler nights/mornings? It's been in the 60's nights/mornings around here. I hope nice and cool at night for the Wine and Dine. Got the 11 mile run coming up Friday and I am nervous for another "never been that far" run. Going to do my best to hydrate and eat properly tomorrow to avert tummy issues this time. Hope you all are doing well.
