We had those for the 10K here in Richmond this past March, very nice, just attached to your shoe and you could remove it when you got home. On a vacation note, been at BWV since Sunday. Remember when you'd get up early and head to the park and you'd see people out running and think they were crazy? Well, I was one of them, getting a 3 miler in around the lake and path to the Studio's. Going to try for another as a way to reconcile everything I've eaten during the Food and Wine Festival this week!!

I didn't know they made B-tags that attached to your shoe as well. I had one for the first time in August, and it was like the picture above. I wonder if Disney will stick with the bib kind or do the shoe one. The directions on the back of my bib from my August race said to make sure that no clothes were covering it when you cross the start line. Hopefully it's not too cool the morning of the princess, or people might not get an accurate start time if they've layered and forget to pull the layers up when starting.

I bet you had some beautiful runs around the BW! I'm still kicking myself for not taking advantage of the beautiful area to run when we were at the BWV last year. I sat on our balcony every morning and watched the runners, but never got the motivation to throw my running gear on and join them.

Hi everyone! Disney's Princess Half Marathon is motivating me to get into running, so I was so excited to find this thread! I haven't registered quite yet for the race but probably will do so by the end of the week. The longest run I've ever done is the Cooper River Bridge Run and the Peachtree Road Race ( 10k).

Are there any ladies on here that actually dress as a princess? If so, does it slow you down at all?

Hope to get some advice.....I want to do the Half Princess, but will settle for the 5K. I only started last week, but my husband asked if he could join me during one of my walks, I said fine, but when I told him it was a day to run/walk, he said he wasn't up to it - which I understand so I am just walking with him. I want to get those 30 minutes of run/walk, I thought about doing it during my lunch hour at my office gym, and do the walk in the evening with DH, is that too much? I keep reading about resting, but I really enjoy walking with him, but really want to get some running done as well. :confused3

B-tags looks like this:

The tag is built into the back of the bib.

That looks like it would chafe like crazy. Is it as bad as I fear?

That is not the kind of b-tag used at Wine and Dine. The one used at W&D was the same kind that was used in Philadelphia's Broad Street Run last year too.

In Galloway, walking is considered cross training, so you can do it every day you are not running if you want to. I don't think it suggests walking on the same days you run, but you can always adjust your schedule slightly to walk with your husband on the days you don't run. It doesn't necessarily have to be Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday as long as you doing three days with at least a day in between. I think you should be able to work it out without giving up lunch to go running :)

Did you put the blister band aid on your toe nail or just the side of your toe? It's just my toe nail that isthe problem. I thinks it's from my new orthotics. I never trimmed them down. When I pulled them out the ends were all curled up. The toe box of my shoe felt kinda tightonce I put the new othotics in.

I managed to tun 6.2 miles today in 1:17. I'm doing a 10K on Sunday, so now I have a time to try to beat.

I used it for both, just seemed to help keep the skin from rubbing together and give it a little time to heal. And I was wrong, we didn't use those tags in the Richmond race, we used the ones that went on your shoes - maybe they were called D tags?

I *think* we used D-tags for Monument Ave. 10K, the kind that goes on your shoe. At the Shamrock Half we had B-tags which are part of your bib and make you wonder if you really have a tag at all! ;) The nice thing about B-tags is that you don't have to do *anything* and then worry that you didn't put it on right.

My cold is better as long as I don't fall behind on the Alka Seltzer Plus, so I'll try my scheduled 5-miler tomorrow and hope for the best. Next half is one month from tomorrow!

I am running the Princess with my DH and Dsis and D Bestie. I am bringing my boys because they enjoy running too. One will be running the 5k along with my DH. And 2 are doing the one mile. But my delimma is what to do with the boys when we run the 1/2. Has anyone posted a similar question? I thought I've read through the thread and haven't seen it. I'm not comfortable leaving them alone that long in the parks and they want to come and cheer us on. Anyone who ran it previously know of any suggestions for us? Or anyone heard of what others might do with kids for that time period?

The piece that sticks out was foam, so it's not bad at all.

I'm sure that whatever was use at W&D would be used at all the races. Was is similar? I've only had one experience with b-tags.

Where are you staying? If you are staying at a hotel along the route you could maybe tell them a time to come out and cheer you on along the course, then they could hang out in the hotel room until you get back.

I have just read through this thread and it is so inspiring! After watching all the different ages, shapes, and sizes of people running by my building in the Chicago Marathon on Sunday, I realized I really don't have a good excuse not to get healthier. My doctor suggested that I start running, so I figured now is the time. I am glad I stumbled upon the Disney Princess 1/2 Marathon, because I don't know if anything else could motivate me! I haven't registered yet, but I plan to do so soon. I figure once I pay the entry fee I won't back out!

I hope that by starting training now that it won't be too late. I haven't run in forever, but I do take my dogs for 1-2 mile walks at least 5 days a week so hopefully I can condition myself to pick up the pace a little bit.

Does anyone have any tips for beginning runners? I am planning on stopping by my local running shoe store to get fitted for the right shoes so that I don't chance an injury while first starting out. Any advice is appreciated!

:welcome: and Congratulations on your decision to get healthier and have fun doing it!

A lot of people start with the Couch to 5K (C25K) system. It eases you into running. Then they move on to 5K to 10K, and then it's just a jump to your left and then a step to your right to a Half! (Sorry, it's early and I'm odd ;))

we haven't reserved a room yet. Which place could we stay that they could come out at the hotel to see us? I have thought about bringing someone to "sit" with them at the run but the funds aren't there now to pay for an extra person all weekend. :guilty:

Would there be time for me to take them to a cheer location and get them settled before the race? My kids are a little older but it scares me leaving my younger 2 depending on their 13 yr old brother who has aspergers (high functioning autism).

Thanks Maria!

How are your walks? If they are just slow leisurely walks I don't see why you couldn't do both, just make sure you do the run first. I find walking after a run helps keep me from stiffening up.

I know what you mean. It looks like it sticks out kind of far.

As already mentioned a lot of people swear by coach to 5K. I haven't personally done it but it could be a good place to start.

I borrowed Marathoning for Mortals from the library because it was so highly recommended on this board when I was training last year. It has a lot of good information and I feel it has a good philosophy to it. It also has a few different training programs in it that you could follow. They have them for walking, walk/run, run/walk and running a half. I believe they are about 12 week programs?? So you would still have plenty of time to start it.

b-tags are slightly more accurate than the d-tag in terms of a close race (the torso would cross the line first rather than the leg) - sure it doesn't really matter for the middle-of-the-packers - but it's obviously a huge deal for those who are actually trying to win. they are also considered "greener" because they are less waste.

expect more and more races - especially large ones - to shift towards them.

I've found the online record system to be very hit or miss. I registered for Goofy using the visa discount, so it doesn't recognize my registration. I think the online records only really work when you register online the traditional way.

Thank you, just a little paranoid about not seeing any confirmation.

Yes! Many people dress up. Even the men.
I wore a pink running skirt, tutu and shirt - see my picture to the left. I also wore pink ears (which stayed on the whole time).
My only suggestion is that you decide what you will be wearing well in advance and you run at least 5 miles in it to make sure it doesn't bug you. I ran on the treadmill so as to not shock the neighbors with my get up! :rotfl:

It is really fun to dress up and have pictures taken with the characters.
That's what makes a Disney race so special!

Go for it!

Hi everyone!!
After not running sooo long (talking 10yrs) . I have been wanting to do the princess ½ marathon for longest but it won’t be until 2013.
