I knew that there had to be a thread for runners :cool1: I am usually on the budget, resorts, restaurant and resort threads. I was at the ASMovies during the wine and dine marathon and became inspired :goodvibes so I have decided I am going to go for the next marathon - would love to be able to say that I will do the half, but will be happy doing the 5K. My DH doesn't think I will stay committed, but I want to prove him wrong - LOL. Started last week with walking two miles three days, plan to start Jeff Galloway's plan tomorrow. My DD 9 wants to get a medal too, so I will probably let her do the 1 mile. So excited, can't wait :yay::yay:

Sundenly reading about the race a lot of questions came to mi mind.

1. How do they measure the time? Does your time start when Corral A start or when your Corral start?? I will be in the last corrals so I worry that if the time start before my Corral start that means I have less time to finish the race :confused3

2. I call Run Disney today and ask them about the Retreat and the girl said she didnt know what I was talking about. Where do you call for the Retreat?

3. Are there a lot of water break a long the race? I drink water every 30 minutes. Do I need to bring my own bottle of water?

4. After the race starts how does the family members get around?? Does Disney provide transportation for them?? How my husband will know where to go??

Some one help!!!

1. In essence, yes. The 3.5 hour time limit starts when the last person crosses the start line. The further back you are, the less time you have to finish. I would recommend training at a 15min mile or less and you will have a cushion. Also, try to get there early and get as far to the front of your corral as you can.

2. RunDisney sometimes takes time to catch up. They just announced the retreat last week. I would try to call again.

3. There should be water every 2 miles. You are always welcome to carry your own at a race, but Disney is very well organized and will not run out of water.

4. It depends on how early they want to get there. Regular Disney transport starts an hour before the park opens, and you finish in the Epcot parking lot.

As to my cancelled race, I am still really bummed. I thankfully didn't pay for the plane ticket, but I did use up miles to go and paid for the hotel, not to mention the training and anticipation.

I was considering doing a local half this weekend as a substitute, but it's a $90 registration fee to do it this close in and that seems a little $$. I will probably just do a long run with my training group.

My next half is Nov 6th so I will just gear up for that instead.

All of my family and friends think I wont make it. The only one that believes now is my husband because I been two months training and he see Im training hard. Dont worry, Is going to feel so good when you cross the line.

I dug deep, but never found it this morning! :sad2: Today's run was supposed to be 8 miles, but I had to quit at 6.7. The sinus infection/cold won. I admit defeat. But hopefully only for a few days, when I'll give it another shot. In the last two weeks I've missed one run and shortened two. Might have been better to take a few days off, but I'm too stubborn! Congrats on conquering yours!:cheer2:

It's really hard to run when you can't breathe well enough to get proper oxygen into your body! So frustrating though... :)

Awesome pictures ladies! Thank you all for sharing!! I know have a few characters in my mental list...Phineas and Ferb?!! How awesome! I am a bit hesitant though, I want to make good time and not be standing in lines. I too have a honking camera that I always take on vacation, but doesnt exactly fit in my pocket. Would love to rent a good little camera with a long battery life as I would only use it during races. Wonder if anyone does that?!

I know a lot of people like Disney to be their first half, but I was glad that it wasn't my first because I'd already run a race for a good time. I had another half about 5 weeks after the Princess as well, so it was nice to use princess as a slow long run. Phineas and Ferb had no line, so if that is a picture you want, no worries on wasting time there. Also, most of the characters had an ASI photographer along with the cast member who would take pictures with your own camera. If you'd rather not carry your own camera you can have the ASI photographer take pictures instead.

Thanks for the photo pacing suggestions! It definitely sounds critical to make sure your chip is secure on your shoe...I've never used one or even seen one before. How do you make sure it's secure?

I'm pretty sure Disney is going with the B tag timing device. It is built into the bib. Make sure you do not fold your bib or have it covered or it could mess up your time.

NitroStitch - I have a heart condition (and am monitored by a Cardiologist), but if I get too hot--with a fast heart rate, I tend to pass out. When I run, I run super early in the am (4am), so Im back to the house before the sun comes up most of the time. I also wear a heart monitor that communicates instantly with my Garmin watch, which I can constantly keep an eye on. Lastly, I started off my intervals running 15 seconds, walking 45 seconds. As my body conditioned to excercising, I've been able to increase my intervals to run 45 seconds and walk 30 seconds. I find myself now between a 10 minute 30 second to 11 minute pace. And I love it. Who'd a thought I would get off the couch after 39 years?!! My suggestion is to take it slow and build up your momentum at your own pace. Good Luck!!

I'm in! I just registered on Sunday! This will be my first 1/2 marathon ever! I've already started training, but I have a long way to go!

I had read that they were going to use B tags but had no idea what a B tag was. LoL

The tag is built into the back of the bib.

Thanks for sharing the B tag picture Heater. So does that mean the chip is disposable and they do not require it to be returned to them? Or is it removable some how?

It is a disposable chip. You don't need to return anything after the race.

We had those for the 10K here in Richmond this past March, very nice, just attached to your shoe and you could remove it when you got home. On a vacation note, been at BWV since Sunday. Remember when you'd get up early and head to the park and you'd see people out running and think they were crazy? Well, I was one of them, getting a 3 miler in around the lake and path to the Studio's. Going to try for another as a way to reconcile everything I've eaten during the Food and Wine Festival this week!!

I got a 5 mile run in today. The toe was ok. Swollen afterward but didn't seem any worse. It was hot hear today. Really made a difference with my pace. But felt so good to feel the sun shining on my face. Tuesday it's supposed to be cool again.

Congrats to all making travel plans. I have our hotel and ADRs made, just need to get flights.

Sorry to be late as been on vacation the past few days. I totally messed up my toe with blisters on the side and under toe nail. Am convinced it will fall off but found the blister bandaids really help me. Someone else on the board gave me that advice (apologies that I forgot who it was) and it really helped. Also, recommend going up a 1/2 size in shoes, that's really helped my whole problem!

Did you put the blister band aid on your toe nail or just the side of your toe? It's just my toe nail that isthe problem. I thinks it's from my new orthotics. I never trimmed them down. When I pulled them out the ends were all curled up. The toe box of my shoe felt kinda tightonce I put the new othotics in.

I managed to tun 6.2 miles today in 1:17. I'm doing a 10K on Sunday, so now I have a time to try to beat.

That's amazing that you've been able to do so much activity despite the heart condition! Huge kudos to you! I started running at 43 after a lifetime of avoiding it. I haven't had too many problems with breathing, other than the two respiratory infections I've gotten since I started. Before I even knew I was getting sick, I had a terrible run and felt like I couldn't catch my breath no matter how much I slowed down and shortened reps. Sure enough, both times, I got really sick within a day or two. I definitely feel Nishmom's pain in that regard. :)

I used to shake my head when I saw those people. Now I'm going to be one of those people too. :rotfl2: Not only does it keep building and maintaining endurance, but it definitely helps burn off some of the decadent Disney food. :yay:

And thanks to Stitchfan for posting the photo of the B chip on the bib. I had no idea what I was looking for or what to do with it. :lmao: Much more self explanatory now...
