Oh, Princesses - need some encouragement this morning!!!! After going thru 6 weeks of PT for shin splints, the running has come anything but easy again. I am STILL plagued with a tight calf, and now slight tenderness in BOTH shins - but not throbbing pain like last time. I ran 6.5 Sat. and did okay with it - no pain, just some intermittent tightness. Ran a 2.5 miler on Tuesday, again, no real probs. I still feel the shin tenderness, though. Out of the blue yesterday, my knee starts hurting! AAARRRGGGHHH!!!!!! I am doing my stretches, wearing a compression sleeve, my PT said my shoes are fine....what else do I have to do?!?!?!I'm supposed to run 30 min. again today, but think I am going to skip it to rest my leg a little. I'm just SO frustrated. I ran for an entire year last year, from a complete beginner, without a SINGLE problem. Now, all of a sudden, my lower half is falling apart! I hate the thought of having to give this up when I feel like I just "found" it!
Thanks for letting me vent, and if anyone has any suggestions I will gladly read them!!!
I have a 10k race tomorrow and am trying to get in an earlier coral for the half. Can someone confirm that you need to be under 1:17 for a 10k to get placed in an earlier spot? My last 10k race was a 1:20 so I'm assuming I cant call and use that one....
thanks and hope all is well,
Michele
This may sound like an odd problem, but does anyone have *toes* that hurt? The pain used to be on the balls of my feet, but now it's my toes that are stiff, sore, and almost cramped. I don't know whether it might be arthritis (I am 60, after all) or if it's just major tightness. I can run but longer distances make for more pain later. I've been through PF and IT problems, but this toe pain has been going on for several months. Rolling the little spiky ball under the ball of my foot used to help the foot pain a lot, but now it's different. Sigh....![]()
Hi everyone! Im so exited, but I need to vent a little. Everyone that had heard about me doing the half marathon is giving me such a hard time. I had heard: "what posses you", "are you crazy", you will never make it".Not even my mom or best friend believe I can do this. The only one that is behind me is my husband.
Ok for the good news, Im walking and jogging every other day. Now I can do it for a full hour and I feel comfortable when Im done. Not tired at all. I feel so great after I finish. I will start the Galloway training on October.

I suggest this as well. My DH said after I run a 5k I can sign up for the princess, so I am doing the Halloween 5k in two weeks. It will also give you perspective on how you will do, and micro goals can help. My husband was worried about the money if it turned out I gave up, and me biting off more than I could chew and disappointing myself. He did admit after I ran 4 mi in under an hour that he didn't think I'd even be able to do the 5K, so proving him wrong was pretty awesomeI had a lot of nay sayers when I signed up for Goofy in January, even within my family. It took me going out and running several 1/2 marathons and a full marathon to prove that I was serious about my goal. It really hurt to have people doubt me, and especially my future goals, but it felt good when some changed there mind after seeing me run a full marathon. Once you feel ready, you could sign up for some 5k's or 10k's and prove to them that you are serious about this goal.
You know what?? I think they are jealous! I know I think those who do Goofy are crazy, but not in the crazy why do you do it sort of way. Crazy in the jealous way, knowing I could never do that and just can't understand how anyone can (I know how they can but I think you know what I mean). The goal is just so out of reach for me, I can not fathom what it takes to get there. I agree about doing a few 5Ks and a 10K for them to see you are serious about your goal. And it took me 3.5 years to get to this point that I think a half is a reasonable goal for me. I just finished my first 10K today! 1:14, I was thrilled! It is my goal that matters, not what everyone else thinks, or what they can do, or when they finish.I had a lot of nay sayers when I signed up for Goofy in January, even within my family.
