Thank you for posting your time - that is about my mile time as well - I swear I am the slowest runner and it doesn't seem to get any easier and I am not getting any faster. I get frustrated, but keep plugging away, I'm hoping it gets better :thumbsup2
I know is not going to be easy but im sure is going to be better, in october im starting the galloway training!

Ladies when I started walking in the late winter, I was at your timing, last week 15:23/m and that is mostly walking. Keep training and you will get to at least the 16:00/m. I am only hoping for 15:00/m so I can get a few photos. Hmmm...perhaps we are building the WISH corral E/F team :).
i dont mind being in the last one, i just want to finish!

Now that it's getting cooler, what kind of running attire do you all have for the chillier temps? Today was sweatshirt and jean weather here. I was hoping to get a run in, but didn't make it. I think I might have been too cold with just shorts.

today i ran, i wore leggins under my long running pants and a tshirt with a hoodie. im usually always cold so it was fine. i did my 2 miles and i wasnt a problem.

Thanks to everyone for making me feel so good! I had been training for a month today. I went and bought some awesome new running shoes. Went to the track and sadly measure the time of my first magic mile. It was hard to look at the time. It took me 17:50 to finish a mile. :sad1: I hope a can get much better with time. But Im not going to quit!!

When I first started in Jan '10 I was about an 18mm too and it was mostly walking. With steady training, I was able to finish the Princess that year (which was in March) under the time limit, mostly walking, in under a 15mm.

Just keep at it and you will get faster!! :goodvibes

Ran my third 5k yesterday, very flat no hills but a tight course not a lot of room to pass becuase it was through our local Nature park(Silver Springs) ran a PR in 29 flat, my 11 yr old son ran it in 31.17 hoping for a good run on my 10k in November- would love a time of just around 1 hr give or take 10 minutes.

Long run for the week done;

PR in training today, 8.83km (5.49mi) 1:23 9:23/km (15:07/mi) not bad for considering I fell out of my condo door on Tuesday morning and could barely walk on Wednesday.

Next week, my 1st race, a 5k on the Toronto island. I worked there for several years and took the tram around the island many times, now I get to walk/run it. Fingers crossed for a sub 43:00.

Nice PR, best wishes for the 10k.

I just confirmed the 10K I want to do in November is a chipped race, :cool1:. And it is just $35 and an unwrapped toy, love that it is for the kids.

OK ladies, do I walk really slow? My fastish walking pace is about 16:xx/mi, I need to put in consistent running (13:00.mi) sections in a 5k to get to 15:15/mi. Should I expect to not be able to walk much of the course with my 16:xx walk pace, and should train with my current running/walking routine?

I would recommend training some to walk faster. Being able to keep up a fast walk has saved me in a few races now.

Maybe you should throw in one training day of a 2-3 mile walk at a 15mm or under pace, now and again? I do that sometimes, esp if I am having a day where i don't feel like running or have a weird twinge/ache/pain.

Yesterday's long run, btw, sucked. The weather took a nice cool turn here, but it went straight from summer to what felt like winter!! The temp was great at 55, but the last 4 miles of the 10, it decided to pour rain. I walked in one of my pace group who had an injury, for the last 3 miles. It was COLD!! Why couldn't it be pouring rain when it was in the 70s, in June/July/August...

Just wanted to introduce myself as I'm new here.

I'll be running the Princess Half with you all in February. Technically this is my second Disney race as I did the Tower of Terror 5k two kids ago. I work full time and am the mom to four great kids - which leaves me with limited training time. I've been back in training since the beginning of August and have my first 10k coming up 10/1/11. Then I'll start into the Galloway plan.

Today's run was pretty good as we've had fabulous weather today (70F) - 5 miles with an 11:30 pace.

This seems to be an amazing forum and I look forward to cheering you all on through your training. If anyone lives in the Charleston, SC area - let me know as I'd love to have a run buddy for my long runs.

Welcome!! This thread includes an incredible collection of princesses - you will find good advice, amazing encouragement and even a bit of "get your tail into gear!" should you ever need it. LOVE these princesses :goodvibes

I came across this thread today and I'm very excited to be running Princess 2012 as my first half. :)princess:

SO glad you found us! And congrats on the decision to run the Princess half. This will be my first half, too. Can't wait!! :)

Don't give up, woman! You can and will do this. So proud of you for working so hard. You are an inspiration!!!

running capris plus long sleeve technical shirt with a fleece on top. in the 40s here today. i much prefer to be covered up more when i go out in the chillier temps.

Go get 'em! And be careful leaving your condo this week ;) No injuries before you get that 5K behind you. And I'm predicting 41:41 for you next week. The excitement and adrenaline will have you moving a smidgen faster than normal - you'll beat that goal of sub 43. You are going to do great!! Looking forward to your race report!! :cheer2:

Happy training, my fellow princesses! Have a terrific week!!!

Congrats on the PR :thumbsup2 Awesome time!!!

This morning ran a 5K, it was freezing here, the temp on TV said 51, but it was very windy since we were right on the lake. I made it in about 32 something, I think 32.03?? I'll look up the results later, not a PR for me, but still a great time considering I couldn't feel my toes for the first half of it :lmao:

Unfortunately it's still very hot and humid here in Florida so it's shorts and a tshirt for me.

I want to chime in on the slow running thing. It took me 3 years to break a 15 minute mile. I ran on and off from August 2007 when I first started C25K til this Jan, when I finally got more consistent and did my first mile (2 months later) in under 15 minutes. For me, it was all about consitency and starting to run farther (slowly, very slowly building up millage) and I started eating better around this time. I have been getting slowly faster since then. And fyi, my mile splits in races are always faster than the magic miles I can do at home. Not sure about Halfs, but this has been my case for 5ks and my 1st 10k this weekend. Keep it up Princesses!

WOW! What a thread! It took me awhile, but I'm through it! You ladies are so inspiring and supportive, it's beautiful. :grouphug: My name is Allegra, and I'm pretty new to running. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I am registered for the Princess Half Marathon, and start training tomorrow! :yay::woohoo::cool1::cheer2: I'm really lucky to have an amazing coach and friend training me.

This has been a huge BHAG (big hairy audacious goal) of mine for a long long time. I had convinced myself I can't run, and this was never a possibility. Since I took on running in May, I have realized how much I can really do! It's so cool! My fear of running began when I was 11 and we had to run the mile as part of the yearly fitness assessment, and our gym teacher had us run it outside in 90 degree weather. I was very competitive and ran full strength, and I got heat stroke. It was really scary and very serious! I developed exercise induced asthma, and then in high school injured my knee in a snowboarding incident, and that was it for running for me. I was convinced I couldn't run.

Fast forward to this past May, where I was taking part of a Community Class Challenge at work. I am an Assistant Manager for lululemon athletica, an amazing yoga inspired athletic apparel company. For the class challenge we got points for doing certain activities on certain days, and I was committed to winning! The prize was $200 cash, and I wanted that for my spending money for our 2 year anniversary trip to the Happiest Place on Earth. So you can imagine my determination. One of the challenges was a 3 mile run. I knew I had to do it, as it would be an event that scored me a lot of points. I showed up and ran almost the whole 3 miles! I walked and ran towards the end, but it was an amazing feeling and I fell in love with running. I have my first 5K in two weeks, the Diva 1/2 Marathon and Girls 5K here on Long Island. (ps I won the class challenge in the end!) :cheer2:

I've learned so much from you ladies in this thread. I know that I am going to complete a 10K between now and the Princess in order to submit a time. I now going to make my travel arrangements and I would really love some guidance if you wouldn't mind :flower3: As of now, DH and I were planning on working half days on Friday and flying in at night, around 9 pm. We have friends in the Orlando area that can pick up my packet for me, so that's awesome. These friends are CM's, so we are able to book our resort with their friends and family discount. That being said, what do you think is the most convenient resort to stay at? We will have a rental car. Since we will have a 40% discount we can consider Deluxe. We will only be in town Fri-Mon, with a night flight out on Monday night (7pm).

Thank you so much for this amazing thread. I can't wait to be a part of this with you all. :goodvibes:goodvibes

Hi everyone! I think I am participating on several threads for this race now, LOL. Anyway, I will be doing this one as well. it will be my 4th Disney 1/2 marathon (that is, if my body holds up). I am doing the Wine & Dine in 2 weeks (my first half) and then the Marathon Relay and Tink in January.:scared1: :scared1:

Disney trips keep me motivated to say the least ;)

Hi all!

DP and I are training for this race. So far, the only "race" we've done was the Castaway Cay 5K back in August. We haven't registered yet (just in case things go awry), but so far we are doing well-- up to running 3-4 miles 4 times per week no problem. We started with the Couch-to-5K program, but I think we need to find another program to get us up to the half marathon. I am hoping that we can get up to 6 mi (10K) as longest distance over the next 3 weeks, but I think we need to mix up our workouts with some speed/pace-type training. I'm looking for suggestions!

I haven't been about to read back through all the pages here yet, but I'll be working on it! We just made reservations (DVC) at SSR for the weekend. Looking forward to keeping up with you all!

After attending Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party on Friday (from 5pm to midnight) iin three inch Spider Girl boots, I suffered three blisters on the bottom of EACH foot. Made my Saturday am long run impossible. At least I got in my weekday runs in at AKL. DH suggested I apply Glide to my feet next time with the heels--will that really ward off blisters (you know, in case Spider Girl makes another Halloween Party appearance)?

hey guys, im doing the planing for the trip and i was wondering do you guys also buy the park tickets? im planing to get to orlando on friday and leave on monday. i dont know if there will be any time for the parks. can anyone help me decided. what had been your experience?:upsidedow

Wow! Reading this whole thread is a half marathon in itself. Welcome! :cheer2:

If I was just staying a couple of nights and had a discount, I would go with Poly, hands down. You'll have a blast! We are vacationing for 10 days with the kids, so it's mod all the way for me! POFQ to be specific. I love that resort too, so it's no sacrifice, but someday I'll try Poly! I stayed there once for one night as a kid when my dad worked for disney, but it has been a long time lol!

There is hope! It was becoming too easy to think that the milestone birthday I had last month made me just too slow and old to consider doing this. Training during the summer was just about the last nail in the lid. But today was wonderful and encouraging - NINE miles of 2:1 and still had something left in the tank at the end. The temp was around 60, it was cloudy, and there was a lot of little league fall baseball (great distraction) going on at the park where DH and I run, so all the pieces fell into place. This week's 9 miles was *much* better than last week's 8! Clothing of choice was capris and a long sleeve tech tee. I still got good and sweaty but that's always the case. The final test will be a half in November, our second, which is supposed to prove that finishing the first last March was not a fluke, and that I can be a DISNEY PRINCESS! :yay:

Oh, and Body Glide is our friend, our BEST friend when we're running!

Sweet! Nice job nishmom, from another mom past a milestone birthday. This cooler weather has definitely given my running mojo a boost. Lovin it!
