Whoo hoo! Just ran my first 5k, 35:00. It was at Wild Rivers in Irvine and was so much fun! The course was set so that you ran about 2.5 miles, then ran 0.2 miles in the Lazy River, then finished out the course.

Also, Chik-Fil-A was a sponsor, and they had a Cow run the course. Whoever beat the cow to the finish line won a free C-F-A meal (the cow finished in about 22 minutes).

Let me tell ya, that River felt gooooooood! :)

Oh wow!! I would love to run such a fun race like that!!! I LOVE Chic-fil-A!!

I am in for the Princess Half Marathon. This will be my 1st half and I am running solo. I hope to connect with people on the boards for motivation, encouragement and maybe even meeting up at the race. Can't wait.

Any costuming suggestions for a first timer? Anyone from the Summerville, SC area running?

Welcome!

I didn't wear a costume last year, but I'm planning to this year. Some people wore really elaborate dresses, and other just wore tutu's with cute shirts. It's really your preference on what kind of costume you want. Also, test whatever you plan to wear before race day on at least a short run.

HockeyKat CONGRATULATIONS on your 6th - that is fabulous.

sc_disdreamer Welcome! :) And I have no idea what I'm doing for my costume. I need to start pondering that. Looking forward to hearing what the others are doing!

As for me, I'm starting week 7 of my 5K101 podcasts tomorrow. Can't wait!

xo,

Oh yeah!! ALWAYS keep this in mind, ladies. Sometimes it's that thought and that thought only that keeps me going. Of course today it's couch potato for me as Hurricane Irene is bring rain and wind. Tomorrow: 7 miles and weather.com says it will be sunny!

Same here - my running partner & I has to push our long run till tomorrow due to hurricane. Here's to 5 miles tomorrow! 43 days until Food & Wine festival where I'm looking forward to some different running paths!

6th half complete! Garmin said 13.3 miles in 2:57. The race was not chip timed so I am taking my Garmin and not the "official" time.

Way to go! congrats.

Welcome! I went with friends last year, but I did run by myself...it was a blast! Everyone was nice and lots of encouragement on the way. As for costumes, last year I wore a Team Sparkle skirt, yellow and a blue shirt, red had with bow sewn on it ala Snow White. Team Sparkle has a ton of cute and simple ideas on their website. Their skirts are VERY lightweight....if you can sew also not to hard to make. This is a very supportive bunch, welcome again and happy training.

Updated chip result time indicates that I actually ran my 5k in 32:46... I am *definitely* ok with that! Thanks for the support, gals! :)

Welcome! I live in the Lexington (near Columbia) area. I'm not aware of any other SC'ers on this board as of yet...this will be my fist half too. I'll be running solo, but my family will be cheering me on! :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

Good Luck!! :cool1:

Thanks, Julie! I am definitely going to check out Team Sparkle! I'm starting to feel more excited than scared thanks to this thread.

I'm running solo too, at this point. I can't convince my sister to join in with me. Good luck training. Maybe we will bump into each other at the race:yay:

As of tomorrow, I will be able to begin making my first ADRs. Does everybody have a plan for their vacation? What parks will you be visiting when (if you plan to stay and visit the parks a bit)? What dining reservations are you planning?

We will be on the road Friday for an afternoon arrival, pick up packets, check into BLT, then go to Pasta in the Park. Sat get some AK in for a couple hrs, then the Studios after the race (as that is the only day Fantasmic is showing while we're there). Monday we'll visit the MK with EPCOT on Tuesday. Traditionally on the last day, we visit Downtown Disney before getting back on the road after lunch which will hopefully be at Sweet Tomatoes.

Was thinking about a Princess meal, but with DS3 and DS6, they're really not into it. This will be our 4th trip this year too, so its not like we'll be doing a lot of exploring. We do our favorites, retire to the room/pool then hit it back again for the parades or fireworks.

Just made my dining reservations for race weekend!!! I'm doing my "I did it" celebration dinner at California Grill. So excited!

For veterans, what did you do after you finished? Dh wants to go to epcot and he was thinking we could eat with the princesses. Yes all my boys are going to take me to eat there. I'm guessing I'll want to go shower first then go back. What's the earliest you'd make a reservation?

Hmm... I haven't really thought about ADR's yet. It didn't even dawn on me that the time to make them was quickly approaching!

Okay, so I made a reservation at Cinderella's Castle for 1020am for after the race. I hope that enough time to get there.

We'll be driving the 13 hours on Friday. Saturday morning, I'll hit the Expo, then MK the rest of the day. After the race will be Epcot. Monday back to MK for a full day, Tuesday AK, drive back Wednesday. We won't do table service as it's usually a nightmare with the 3 kids and they're not into any characters. I have touring plans already printed out complete with counter service restaurants chosen. The only thing I need to figure out is my stroller situation. DS's will be one month shy of 6 and 4. I just can't decide whether to rent a double off site or take two umbrellas.

In my opinion, it is best to take a single stroller with a basket underneath, and an umbrella for the 6 yo. We store waters, snacks, wipes in the basket and leave it there with the strollers when we park them. We make SEVERAL trips a year and that works best for my DS3 & DS6. A double stroller is just to big to maneuver through people who hate strollers (half the guests there!).

Have a safe trip!

Nikki
