Forgive me, I'm new here and a new runner. I know I saw it somewhere while I was browsing the 144-ish pages on this thread, but can't seem to remember or find it now. I only have 4 days at Disney. Would it be better to tour Fri-Mon or Sat-Tues? The only thing that concerns me is packet pickup and fitting that into our touring schedule. We do plan to use the Unofficial Guide touring plans for families with young children, so I should be able to hit the Expo while kids are at the hotel taking a swim/nap. I've already booked the hotel for Thursday to Tuesday, but don't think it will be a problem to change at this point. TIA!

Tia, this past January when my family did the 5k, we picked up our packets on Saturday at noon rather than on Friday. They did NOT have my t-shirt size, nor my 5 yr old DS's size. He ended up with a Youth Large. Disappointing as we registered well in advance, assuming our requested t-shirt sizes would be granted upon pick-up. Hopefully they've made improvements?!!

I've heard the IRUN packages end up being more expensive than book through Disney. I personally rent DVC points instead. We're paying about $500 to stay at AKV for 3 nights. Disney has the same room listed for $1500 for the same 3 nights.

We are renting DVC points at Bay Lake Tower with a bay view for $500 for two nights. That would have cost us $1294 booking through the WDW site!

stitchfan or other experienced princess runners - I saw the post you made that you can send text messages to friends with your clock times along the way. So I could sign dh up for this and he'll get updated times of where I am?? Am I understanding that right. This would be great for him to know when to get to epcot with the boys for the finish.

You can sign up for email and text alerts along the race during the registration. Some people have had issues with it, but my parents have also gotten their updates and it helped them to know where I was during my run.

I also sent text messages to friends and to my parents along the race, usually during my walking periods (which for me was my walking time). That could get tricky since your mind isn't exactly on where you're going (just like driving). However my parents were cheering for me the entire time and sending me replies which helped.

I started the C25K back in March and now using galloway for traing. I'm a 10K on labor day. I love the galloway training and you can totally do the princess!!

Thanks for the support!

By the way daisy, your signature says "CPA Conference," are you an accountant?

You'll cross timing mats about every 5k. When you cross over a mat the people signed up for text message or email alerts will receive your time, average pace and how far you've gone. My mom was watching me, and she didn't get the first text, but got the 10k text. I was opposite because I got the 5k, but not the 10k. It's usually pretty good, but someone might miss an update here and there. I also noticed that my update would come a minute or so after I crossed the timing mat, so it's slightly delayed. At the finish I called my mom and told her I was in Epcot so she knew I was close to the finish. You could also have a text message typed out before hand that you can send with the touch of a button.

There will be a link on the website a couple weeks before the event. I think they email everyone signed up to let them know about runner tracking when it is available. You have to sign up the phone number, then verify the phone number with a code they will text to the number.

That is wonderful. I'm a CPA also at a Big 4 firm so unfortunately in this case, they provide us all our CPE so we never pick conferences in cool places to tag on some vacation. I'm so jealous!

Sorry for the OT CPA thread, but wanted to say that my partner is a Big 4 CPA and they have a meeting every year in Orlando in December. One year she asked me "Chicago in November or Orlando in December?" when she was trying to schedule her CPE. I was like "what is this Chicago of which you speak?" One year we made it into a family long weekend, and even managed to hit the MK on her birthday! With a family of four it's still a spendy long weekend, but it makes a good excuse... ;)

The heat has been brutal this summer! Tech shirts are a MUST. You can get them for cheaper at Target or TJ Maxx.

We had a break from the heat here today, a bit - but instead? Raging thunderstorms. I got in 16.47 miles, 7 of it circling the parking garage where my group met, and the rest in the POURING rain. Still felt better than the heat!!

Wow, I never thought about Target or TJ Maxx for the shirts... thanks for that info, Kat!

I heard on the news that NC was getting pounded by heavy rains today with flooding. Not a drop here unfortunately. Seems to be all or nothing. I'm with you on running in the rain! 16.47 miles?? WOW!

Cool! I work for a small cpa firm doing gov't accounting/auditing so it's the governmental/not for profit accounting and auditing conference. This is the first year in 3 years I've gone to it since I was pg one year, then a stomach flu that my baby gave me the next year, then last year I had another baby a few weeks before it. I'm so excited about actually getting to go and making it a vacation afterwards.

We got HAMMERED. The run this week was a greenway run along the creek, and our scheduled route actually got flooded out! We had to go the other way and do a bunch of loops, including about 6 miles in a parking garage.

Walmart and Ross (if you have Ross?) are also good options for tech gear. Marshall's is okay but they tend to be more expensive for whatever reason.

Also, Ross, TJ Maxx are great places to get socks. I much prefer non-cotton socks, some sort of dual-layer/clima-lite/wicking type socks. Although today, didn't make a difference!

As to the mileage, I am considering doing a full in February, so have been upping my mileage to see if I can do it. Also, Jeff Galloway said in a seminar I attended that you can use a longer distance as way to help increase your speed, although who knows on that one?

I didn't really get too wiped until mile 14, although we train way slow as a Galloway group. Average was about 15:15-15:30 today since it wasn't as hot due to rain, rain, and more rain.

I apologize for starting the OT CPA chat!

Daisy-No yellow books or NFPs for me! I love my manufacturing.

Cate-We use to always have training in Orlando, but things have cut back! Although, I was down there in June for training and tagged on a Disney w/e with the BFF.

Yes, we got HAMMERED in Raleigh too, also saw flooding in Charlotte.

How long do you plan to train before the full?

Also, has anyone done 2 half's fairly close together (i.e. 2 mons apart)? Training tips on that?

Thanks

I was running in Raleigh actually, with the Raleigh Galloway group. My "location" is techically Durham but I am very close to the dividing line between the two. Are you in Raleigh too?

The full that I am targeting is Feb 12th, so I am working up to it for the rest of this year.

I am going to do two halfs very close together this fall but I haven't yet, so I am also interested.

Yes, I am up near Wake Forest. Is there a website or anything for the group you run with? I would like to eventually find a group to get motivation, advice etc.

Last night I did my interval run/walk. Thanks to Heather for doing the math. I did 2 miles on the track and my knee didn't bother me. By the end at the end of a 100 m run it was getting a touch sore, but nothing like it was. I'm so psyced to be able to do something without pain! Well at least pain in my knee. By the time I got home my left shin was killing me. When I went to the doc he had said something about doing a bone scan, so if it's not getting any better by the time I go back, I'm just going to ask him to do the scan just to make sure. Last thing I need now is a stress fracture.

That's great that your knee didn't bother you over the 2 miles! Do you ever get shin splints? I've always worn compression socks to keep muscles soreness to a minimum during long runs, but I've heard that compression socks are also great for shin splints. Hopefully it's not a fracture!

Oh yeah, I've had shin splints. I had them when I first started running in both legs. The right side seems to have gone away but the left is lingering. When I went to the doc he also said I need new orthotics. I'm hoping the new orthotics will help. I over pronate A LOT!!
