Good morning ladies! I've been lurking on and off, and decided to take the plunge and do the 2012 Princess Half. Booked the vacation, bought the plane tickets, now I'm trying to figure out what princess before prices go up.

Even though I've never actually spoken to any of you, your posts talked me into doing this, and I had to post and thank you all!

Looking forward to actually chatting with you now. :goodvibes

Welcome Izzy!!! I agree that the women on this thread are a huge support and motivation system for me too!

I'm still trying to figure out how people turn tech clothes into costumes. :rotfl:There is not way I will be running in a real polyester costume!

I plan to do the same as Stitchfan. :) I am thinking compression shorts with a tutu or skirt over them and then an embellished tech shirt. Time to get crafty!!!

Good Morning! I am new to this, so please forgive me if I get overly excited!

I recently signed up for the half and after the initial burst of energy and smiles I started to wonder if I was as crazy as my sister thought I was. Did I mention that the furthest I have ever ran is 3 miles? I put my fears to the side and started training and reading this blog three weeks ago and I have to say thank you for your example!

I am running a 15 min. mile, but considering the weeks of training ahead, I have gone from fearful to confident and cannot wait until Feb.

Thanks again! :yay::flower3:

I have still not even run a full 3 miles so you are ahead of me! Welcome!!!princess:

I'm waiting for the Air Tran flights to be released. I really like the direct flight, I'm not a big fan of flying but it's better than 15 hours in a car.

I can't wait to see pics of costumes. I like to do hand applique/machine quilting but I am not good at coming up with ideas. I picked Aurora, I'm planning on just doing a lot of pink.

Sounds like we are in the same place :thumbsup2. I signed up last night and my DM asked were to send the medic for me:rolleyes:.

I am starting the Galloway 5k this week and will start the Disney training when it is time. Found a 5k for my birthday in September and will do several 5ks in October and move on to a 10k in December.

The ladies here have said that once I get the 10k under my belt the 1/2 will be doable. I am trusting my DIS sisters. :flower3:

Pj, I see you are in Toronto? Too bad we don't have a Galloway training program here. Have you looked into the Running Room's training programs? I started their "Learn to Run" program in March, then the 10k clinic, which I just completed, and now just started the 1/2 marathon program. I might even repeat the 1/2 marathon clinic before the Princess, but the group training makes it sooo much easier for me to progress. Hopefully we get to meet at the race

WELCOME! So much support here. I actually might email them and request a change of princess from my registration...how sad is that :lmao:

I have no idea how people did it last year in the full on polyester halloween costumes....and it was HOT last year unseasonably so I think. I am also just going to get or make myself another sparkle skirt to wear over shorts or tights and the do some minor things to a shirt, nothing too fancy or that will bother me. Keep it simple!

You will notice as you keep up your running you will make some progress, so you are doing great. So long as you train smart you will do great. There are many plans out there to follow, just pick one and stick with it. I still can't believe I have completed 3 halfs as "I am not a runner". Um Yeah I am!:goodvibes

So much great support here! You can do it!

In the past week, I've seen 2 FB posts from Team Sparkle with REALLY cute ideas for running "costumes" for Disney races. So far they've given an idea for a Minnie Mouse inspired look and a Tweedle Dee/Dum look...both really cute and of course involve one of their skirts...which I love! I'm sure these are posted somewhere on their website as well...and hopefully they will send out more! Good place to check for ideas for anyone wanting to dress in theme for the race but not wear a traditional costume.

Thanks so much! I was just looking at their website and their prices are very reasonable. I will go into FB and "like" them so I can see. That is exactly what I have in mind.....simple!

I booked my flight for October (joining my parents at BWV for Food and Wine Festival) and friend and myself are watching flights from Richmond to Orlando for February.

For what I'm about to say please understand I do not have a habit of promoting credit cards nor do I have a habit of signing up for new cards. I will say I work for a Bank so signing up for new cards is something that causes both of us heartburn and happens about once every 3-5yrs. However, knowing I'm going to fly at least twice in the next year I took a good hard look at the Capital One Venture Card and applied for one last month. After meeting their requirements and getting rewards for the initial sign-up, I was able to get my October flight paid for through their reward system. It's not your typical miles program so you don't have to worry about black-out dates etc. Anyway, I'm hoping with using it for monthly expenses and paying it off each month, I'll have enough to pay for my Februrary flight as well. Again, don't take this as an endorsement of using credit cards, financial dependancy etc, just putting a thought out there (can you tell I've been through the legalize of regulations/compliance etc)

Just got this in an email from my cousin. Sounds, horrible: crowds over the Princess 1/2 weekend will be down! :lmao: wooohoo!:cool1:

I thought so too and what a cute idea for 2 people planning to run together! The minnie mouse was cute, but i thought a little unrealistic with the suggestion to add the polka dots with white office labels. I don't imagine those staying put for very long once the sweat starts kicking in! I'm going with the minnie theme for the DL race in september. Using the red sparkle skirt, black top with some Minnie iron on embellishments similar to what I did for the Princess this year in the pic below, a red w/ white dots sweat wicking headband, a cute minne ponytail holder and some little minnie stud earrings. And will do a similar look for the Wine & Dine but going with a cupcake theme rather than a particular character.

I can't find TeamSparkle on FB, can someone post a link? I did find the Sparkleskirts page, but can't find those costume pics.

Can you put iron-ons on tech shirts?

Great question, most iron-ons need a lot of heat to get them to bond, would love to be able to work with an iron on to mod a shirt.

Yep, I didn't have any trouble. The shirt I'm wearing in the pic below is one of the Champion "C9" line of wicking shirts that they carry at Target...since I was making this shirt for one race only I didn't want to spend too much on it...they are usually around $10 or $15 I think. Actually, this was the second one I made at the last minute...I had another version with a short-sleeved Nike dri-fit shirt too...wasn't sure what the weather was going to do so I wanted to be prepared for any temp on race morning. I didn't have any trouble ironing on either one of the shirts though. I do remember posting my idea on the 2011 race thread and remember reading someone else having trouble getting theirs to stick...but I can't really say what her issue might have been.

Have to share this too...my boss just told me about a website called www.frameyourevent.com. Really cute frames for race pics and some medal hangers as well...they are a little more "decorator-friendly" than most other frames and medal hangers that I've seen. I've never ordered from them before and can't speak to the quality or anything, but they sure look cute and I'll definitely keep them in mind when I run out of room on my current medal display hanger!

I LOVE the Target Champion C9 line. Perfect! Thanks for the info.:thumbsup2

That was me...I tried 2 different iron-ons. One was a foil one and the other was a rhinestone-type one. I only tried it on one shirt, though, so it may have been that particular shirt. Turned out well since that shirt was black and long-sleeved - a far cry from the short-sleeved green shirt I'm SO glad I changed to!!!!

Oh I know! It's crazy how warm it got this year. I was in WDW in 2010 the weekend and week after the Princess (not running at that time, just happened to be there) and we were in jackets and scarves most of the time! I was prepared for a cold run for the Princess this year...still have the knit throw-away gloves and the robe I was going to wear into the corrals to keep warm until it was time to "donate" it  So, 2012 Princesses...remember to design a look that can adapt to different temps!
