I'll be there. Going to be there with two of my wonderful girl friends. I'm not a runner and am currently doing the couch to 5k program. On week 5 and am so amazed that I have been able to run for 5 min straight without falling off the treadmill. Looking forward to crossing the finish line.:thumbsup2

ha,ha,ha....love the not falling off the treadmill line. I'm not a runner either and I don't mind being in the back of the pack, actually we have alot of fun back there!:hippie:

Keep up the good work!:thumbsup2

I had the same feelings, but what won out was that I LOVE Disney and could not imagine wasting the opportunity to get all these pics! For all I know, it could have been a once-in-a-lifetime opp. I am also pretty competitive (with myself) and I always want to better my time. I went into the Princess with a time goal - much longer than it would have been if I were doing a regular half, but still a goal. If it were a regular half, based on the times I was running in training, I prob. could have finished in about 2:15. However, I allowed myself 2:45 for pics, and I made it in 2:42! So I was pleased and it served both my purposes - getting the shots AND meeting a time goal! However, I think your hubs plan is also a good one, but it does give you one more thing to think about and have to keep up with! But you have a whole year to hash it out in your head!:yay:

Thanks for the suggestion. Setting a time with pictures is an idea as well.. the watch I think I could do too but who knows where my mind might be during the race and I see Jasmine or something hahaha:rolleyes1

I do not repeat DO NOT want to miss pictures. I really think I would be mad at myself for missing something like that. I'll figure it all out, like you said I have plenty of time to hash it all out in my head.

Hey everyone! I will be running the princess with my sister and we are very excited. It will be our first half.

We will be doing a 10K on May 30th so we can have a qualifying time for corral placement. Does anyone know what 10K times will put you in corral A or B?

This may be a dumb question, but what does W.I.S.H stand for? I have no idea what it is. :confused3

I submitted a 1:07 10k time last December and I was placed in B.

i have one word you you.....BRONCHITIS
just now getting over it and getting back to the gym. it knocked me flat on my butt, that's for sure! i feel like i haven't checked in on here for a while. sounds like you guys are doing great and you continue to give me such motivation to keep pressing forward. i walked for the first time since getting sick yesterday...did half a mile in 10min:mad: but i know i need to listen to my still wheezing body. can't wait to get back out there, felt like i was doing so great before getting sick! it'll happen again, i know it! :goodvibes keep run/walk/movin' ladies!! :woohoo:

Jess princess:

I'm pretty competitive too. I ran my first half marathon just under 2 hours.
But I knew with my next one, the Princess, I wanted to enjoy myself and not worry about the time too much.
Since I was in corral A, there were no lines for the characters.
So I carried my camera in my hand and would just run up to the cast member to take pictures along the route.
I think I went to almost every stop along the route (and even hit some twice like the pirates and group of princes).:rotfl:
And it was so much fun.
Definitely an experience I'll remember forever.
I'm really glad that I wasn't running for time and that I took the time to enjoy myself.
Between these 1/2's I followed with the Hal Higdon's intermediate training to improve my time.
It must have worked because I finished the Princess in 2:04 - only adding about 6 minutes for all the pictures I took.
So I say, don't worry about personal best time.
Just enjoy the experience!

My 10K was 1:05 and I was in Corral B.

Soooo I tried out the new shoes today and I'm not so sure about them. I didn't run much because ya know they are new. Well mid-way through the run my ankle heel area started to hurt. The inside of my foot... ok my brain is totally faltering on the proper names so forgive the grade school description :lmao:... I'm pretty sure it's a ligament (although could be a tendon) .. the pain was right under the ankle bone (ya know the little knoby on the inside ;)) going back toward the Achilles tendon (but it was in no way the Achilles tendon). So now I'm not sure if I should give it a couple days and run again to see what happens and if it happens again back to the running store I go and say, "OK, Sparky, here's the deal..." :confused3

PS~~ I do not pronate

So when is the deadline to submit a 10K time for corral placement? I need to figure out when I need to schedule a race.

While it's still fresh in the veteran princesses minds, how close to the corral start times that were published did they stay this last year?

Also I had my "aha" moment today running and finally did a mile in the 11's. It's taken me 8 weeks but I got it! Went on to do a 5 k with a 12:12 pace. A PR for me....felt all tingly and good today. I think the planets aligned......:cheer2:

I'm signed up for the WDW half in January as my first half! I'm planning on signing up for the Princess as well. I'm almost into week 5 of my 5k training..so I am slowly but surely progressing! I've skimmed through this thread and it's great to see everyone's progress and motivation! I have a question for those who have started in corral B..

Do a lot of people in those corrals use the run/walk method? I feel as though I could do a 10k in around an hour and 15 minutes, but wouldn't want to look like an idiot if I walked at all in that group of people.

Notes from a recent Princess 1/2 marathoner:

To be in Corral A, my sister had a 10K of just under :58. I had a 1:02 and was in corral B with my daughter who had a 1:04. The A corral seemed to have less people than the others....I think they may have had 2000 and the others, 2500 or possibly more. I saw people in my B corral with numbers into the 4000's. The people in the first corrals are generally runners, not run/walkers. When we started from B (our first 1/2 marathon) there were people that flew off the starting line!

Happy Running....off to run my first 5K today....trying to get quicker for my Disneyland 1/2 marathon in September!

Making my first ever post here! I'm hoping to make it to the 2012 Princess Half! DH said this evening that I can go! He'd prefer I go with some friends and make it a girls weekend, but he'll go if he has to!

Welcome! :)

Ok well first WELCOME! :wave2:
And second my DH is going with me to cheer me on at the Princess 1/2 because not a one of my girlfriends wanted to do this. :sad2: So we have decided to take a few days after the race to have some time together without the kids.

As for the Princess being the first 1/2 marathon... well I am torn myself. My reasons are crazy to sensible.

I can be pretty darn competitive. And I am worried that I might not get into the spirit of the run if I ran a 1/2 marathon before the Princess, because knowing me I'll probably want to improve my time. BUT if I don't run a 1/2 beforehand I know me very well and I could be disappointed if the pictures I stop to take mess with my time at the end (the time in my head that I want to be under). (sigh) Well DH came up with a pretty good plan. He suggested I keep my own personal "official" time on my watch and stop the time if I stop in a line for cast pictures. It's a good plan and it just might work for me but I'm still slightly torn.
Suggestions or opinions??

My DH is going with me as well, and we're staying the week after for our first adults-only Disney trip. (Drinking around the world, anyone? ;))

I'm also a competitive gal myself who has been wondering about doing a 1/2 beforehand! I like your husband's plan, but knowing me, I'd forget to stop my watch and get all OCD about it. So I'm going to run in the October Hershey Half first and then give myself permission to stop for as many pictures as I want at the Princess. I know that if I worry about time, I'll regret rushing through the race and not soaking up every single moment.

I am presently in Week 2 of C25K and am scheduled to run a 5K at the beginning of June. I plan to then continue with training and run the Hershey 1/2 in October as my first 1/2.Christina

Christina, I will be doing the Hershey 1/2 Marathon in October as well, we live just outside of Hershey - its great to see someone so close.

Awesome, more Hershey gals! Mmm, running and chocolate--a great combination!

Wow, your experience sounds fantastic!! My goal is to be in Corral B, (trying to be realistic,) but yeah, an extra photo with the pirates? That would be pretty sweet. ;)

So when is the deadline to submit a 10K time for corral placement? I need to figure out when I need to schedule a race.

I think it was sometime in December. My 10K was on Thanksgiving and I e-mailed it in. However, I heard of several people who brought their proof of time with them and their corral was changed. I just wanted to avoid that hassle and extra time at the expo.

That's great! If you're already doing that now, you'll be great for the Princess!

As far as the times go, I"m pretty sure it was right on. Disney doesn't really mess around! I was in Corral B and I remember thinking that we weren't standing around for terribly long at all.

No worries. Everyone just kind of meshes in. And there were plenty of walkers everywhere. Also, the pic stops provide convenient walking breaks, so you have people starting and stopping all up and down the route. As I was running, I was hearing people's phones / pods beeping all over the place! Lots of people were in 2's and 3's and one person's phone would beep. It was like a crew team - the "beeper" would say, "walking" and everyone would slow down. Then she would alert them to when they were about to start running again. So I'm sure you'll blend right in. Here's the best part of being a slower Corral B runner - I saw pics of the elite and A runners at the castle - it was still dark! I snidely thought, "Oh, my castle pics are way better!":rotfl2:
