Hey Ga Girls have you received your notice to sign up for Peachtree. I got early entry because of an Emory Affiilation. I just wanted to know who from this thread will be doing the Peachtree 10k. It would be great to see some of my Disfriends out and about. Not sure I will be able to use this race for corral time as this race is HOT HOT HOT and I'm still struggling in the snail pace of 14 minutes. Anyway it would be nice to say hey to some fellow ATL diser's.

I got a number. I am still resting up my foot, guess I need to start training soon! Not 100% sure i am doing it....the logistics might be too much for me LOL. It is fun though...even if I do it alone!

I'm not sure . . . the National boasts they are the only half all within DC limits. I would guess some is similar. DC seems to be a bit hilly in general. Again, nothing major . . . just a LOT of graduals! Amy might know . . . she just ran the National and is planning on doing the MCM.

Thank you!

I am the same way! January of 2010 had me at a little over 3:00 (had some other issues, too.) Maybe I can dream to break 2:00 in a couple more!

All blogs and race reports are welcome - inspiring!

I followed both of you. :goodvibes

Thanks girls! Every bit of support helps a ton. I used to work in the magazine industry but left a few months ago (LONG story.) I still have some friends in the industry so I have some cool ideas I would like to do with the blog...but before I go there I know I need to show them that someone actually reads this besides, you know, my mom

I got my conformation email on Monday morning at 5:15 :banana:talk about and awesome wake up call!!!! This will be my first Peachtree and I'm super excited!!:woohoo:

Making my first ever post here! I'm hoping to make it to the 2012 Princess Half! DH said this evening that I can go! He'd prefer I go with some friends and make it a girls weekend, but he'll go if he has to!

It will be my first half - in fact the only other race I've ever run is a 5K, so I have my work cut out for me. I started running in between my two daughters, and just got really comfortable at a 5K when I got pregnant with my second. Due to some risk factors my doctor doesn't allow me to run while pregnant, so I've had to start back at square one. My baby was born in December and I'm already comfortable at a 5K distance again, so I'm confident I have plenty of time to prepare!

I'm not sure if I might run Dallas' Whiterock Half in December as a warm-up for it, or if I should just let the Princess be my first. Either way I'm SO excited! Looking forward to spending the next 10 months here!

SORE SPOT!!!!:lmao: I swear every single person I know has gotten in...everyone, that is, except me! My hubs read that 60,000 got in; 2,000 apps were rejected. I know someone had to be in that 2,000, but it's really annoying! Oh, well. Feel certain that someone will be willing to transfer a number. Otherwise, I can take it as a sign from God to rest up, sleep in, and have an iced tea in your honor!!!:hippie:

AWWW so sorry Amy! I decided not to sign up for the lottery or I am sure I would be in the same boat with you, my number is never ever picked!:rotfl:

We are coming up to spend the 4th at Stone Mountain and I just didn't think I could do the run and still get out there early enough for the kids. However, we have a run here on Memorial Day that I am 90% sure I am going to do. It's called "Gate to Gate" on Eglin Air Force Base and is pretty big for this area. I still have to make a decision on the Wine and Dine.

I can't seem to get motivated to do my long runs these days. I get my speedwork in during the week but on the weekends I can't seem to fit it in between homework, housework, baseball and then when we are home DH is usually heading out for his run. I guess being at the Princess inspired him. Oh well maybe this weekend......

Welcome! The Princess will be my first half as well. I want to make that one be my "inaugural" half because it sounds like so much fun. I too have only ever completed a 5k so I'm right there with ya, as are alot of us! Welcome to the gang! Michele

I bit the first of what I'm sure will be several bullets yesterday - I went ahead and ordered "Marathoning for Mortals" from Borders. I went in to buy another book, from an author I love and have been following for about 17 years, and just wanted to look at Marathoning; however, I couldn't find it and the guy at Borders couldn't find it, and next thing you know I was ordering it with their "in-stock guarantee."

I wasn't going to buy it or even get too serious until halfway through April; that should be about the time I can start jogging again. I decided to get moving this week though, to see if I could get serious when the time came - so I'm walking a mile or a little more on Monday and Wednesday, then a little less on Friday, and then a mile and a half on Saturday. Saturdays would be my long run days as per usual, so I'm trying to set that down early in training. So when I went to Borders, all I could think was "but I want to RUN" and ended up plopping down my card.

I have to be very careful, though, because I naturally want to move faster and have a steeper incline but I really need to heal from my surgery first. Monday, I kept ramping up the incline since I was moving so slow, and then within a half minute I'd start feeling stomach pains. I've already been pushing myself too much; I keep forgetting my surgery was only three weeks ago and everything is still healing. I figure once the bruise is gone from my stomach and all the incisions look healed, I am good to ramp things up - however, only one incision is healed, the bruise is still there, and I've still even got a steri-strip on my last, biggest incision. Still some time to go. :(

Tip for those of you suffering with feet problems like plantars fasciitis - take a frozen water bottle and roll your foot over it, applying pressure to the bottle to massage the foot. Oh my, its like heaven and feels so good, especially in the arch. I had been icing my foot, but this seems to help alot more. I've also used a tennis or golf ball to massage my foot, but the cold of the ice feels so much better.

Welcome! :flower3: Just a suggestion for you...maybe do a 10k in December if you want to save the Princess for your first half. The Princess this year was my first as well...I started running in July of 2010, began my "official" half training at the end of October, and planned for a local 10k at the beginning of December. That really ended up serving 2 purposes...one was to just get another organized race under my belt to just get used to the "unknown" and the butterflies, and the other was to get a time to submit to Disney for corral placement for the Princess. It all worked great for me...got me experience in a race setting and into corral B for the Princess...so might be a good option for you if you really feel like you want the Princess to be your first half marathon. Good Luck!!

I'm in again too! 2011 was my first ever half marathon and I'm hooked. My goal for that one was to train injury free and to finish the race. I accomplished both. This time my goal is to push myself in training to see what I can do. My goal is to run a 10k in the fall and get a good enough time to get in one of the first 2 corrals so I can get lots of great pictures. My time for the half was 3:38 so I have a long way to go.

I trained with my sister-in-law and it was a great way to get to know her better. She lives 4 hrs from me so we encouraged each other and kept each other accountable through phone calls and texting. She doesn't think she can go next year so I will probably be running by myself.

My mom will come on the trip with me so I will have someone at the finish line. She is also hoping to do the 5k on Sat.

This has been one of the most fulfilling things I have ever done in my life. If there are any of you on the fence then my encouragement is to go for it and don't give up. Also my experience is that long distance running is not good for weight loss so don't let the scales discourage you. I am still very overweight but I am in much better shape.

Merci

Just got back from Virginia yesterday, where I participated in the Shamrock half in Va. Beach. Some of the W.I.S.H. teams members were there as well, so it was great to walk w/them. I am so ready for the Princess and can't wait to meet everyone!:cool1:

I've been away from the boards for a while, but am back. I love reading everyone's enthusiasm and upcoming race plans leading up to next year's Princess. We're getting ready to move down to the Tampa area so once we get settled I'll be more than ready to find some 5K's and 10K's hopefully down there. I'd like to go over to WDW for either the Family 5K during the Wine & Dine 1/2 or the actual 1/2, but we'll see.

I signed up on Daily Mile yesterday if anyone wants to find me. Right now, I'm Susan K in Tallahassee. I'll try to update my location once we move and either edit or repost my new city.

Thanks everyone with their encouragement - at this point I am most worried about trading an exercise I am learning to love - aerobic dance - for an exercise that I have never like - running. However, I really feel I need a big accomplishement in my life and everyone is so supportive. I think it would be really positive to do and to meet all of you at the race as well.

My current plan is to keep aerobic dancing and get heart healthy until 9 weeks before July 5th the registration date and then start the Couch to 5K training program - if I run and enjoy the 5K before July 5th then sign up for the Princess and start training seriously.

Either way I will keep you posted and still be your cheerleader.
Martha

Susan, I tired to find you but couldn't :confused3. I will look again but just in case I'm Julianna V and I'm forgetting if I put Nashville or Fairview  down as my city but I'm in TN.

Ok well first WELCOME! :wave2:
And second my DH is going with me to cheer me on at the Princess 1/2 because not a one of my girlfriends wanted to do this. :sad2: So we have decided to take a few days after the race to have some time together without the kids.

As for the Princess being the first 1/2 marathon... well I am torn myself. My reasons are crazy to sensible.

I can be pretty darn competitive. And I am worried that I might not get into the spirit of the run if I ran a 1/2 marathon before the Princess, because knowing me I'll probably want to improve my time. BUT if I don't run a 1/2 beforehand I know me very well and I could be disappointed if the pictures I stop to take mess with my time at the end (the time in my head that I want to be under). (sigh) Well DH came up with a pretty good plan. He suggested I keep my own personal "official" time on my watch and stop the time if I stop in a line for cast pictures. It's a good plan and it just might work for me but I'm still slightly torn.
Suggestions or opinions??

This has really nothing to do with your post but I've been curious about your skirt you have on. Is that a Sparkle Skirt??

Oops, I forgot to add the city. I've added it now, but I found you and sent a request.

Yep! Well, actually it's a "Team Sparkle" sparkle skirt. It can be ordered here: http://www.team-sparkle.com/

I know there's another website out there for another skirt called a "Sparkle Skirt" too (I beleive this other company may have had a booth at the expo this year)...2 different companies though and I think they are also made a little differently. I really liked the one I got though and will definitely buy more in other colors for future races! It weighs almost nothing so I was able to add fun color and sparkle over my compression shorts to go with my rhinestones on my shirt but not even feel like I had anything extra on. (I had a tutu on stand-by too, but in the end decided it was "poofier" than I wanted it to be and with it being my first big race, didn't want to have to deal with any wardrobe malfunctions! It may make an appearance in 2012 though!)

Hello all,

I too am joining in. I've been looking for motivation to start running again (ran competitively in high school and college, but haven't run since my oldest was born almost 15 years ago). It's been surprisingly easy to convince my husband to plan another Disney vacation around the Princess Half. I think in the back of his mind he thinks there is no way I'm going to complete the training to run.

I am presently in Week 2 of C25K and am scheduled to run a 5K at the beginning of June. I plan to then continue with training and run the Hershey 1/2 in October as my first 1/2.

I found out what was wrong - my gallbladder was messed up. They took it out last Thursday, and though I can't walk well now and can't really wear pants, I'm already looking forward to getting back in the swing of things - been on the treadmill twice this week, but my old times are long gone. Took me 9 minutes to walk 1/10th of a mile on one day, and 15 minutes to walk a 1/2 mile on another. But baby steps, right?

I had to have my gallbladder removed 2 weeks after my baby was born, in December! Right about the 6-8 week mark I felt like I could really run again, but that was also with recovering from child birth too. :) Keep it up!
