Official 2012 Princess Half Marathon Thread!

After a long hiatus from running---say 10 years and three children ago, I have put my running shoes on again. The Disney Princess Half Marathon looked so fun, I talked my husband into going again to Disney. We were just there last Memorial Day so he was not wild about laying out the cash to bring a family of five back to WDW. That hurdle cleared, now all I have to do is train my 50-year-old body to put one foot in front of another. I am having heel problems on my right foot. I have been to several doctors, deep tissue massage therapist, stretched, ice, worn a boot, no boot, rest, tape, and read eveyrthing I can to relieve the pain. Still the pain is there. Running doesn't seem to make it worse, but it is not getting better either. Not sure I can do 13 miles with the foot problem, but I feel the need to do this. You have all inspired me, and I am going to go for it until I just can't go anymore.

Oh, one more thing: My sister is planning on running with me, but I am not sure she will be able to make it. I will be running solo if she doesn't. That doesn't bother me. Back in the day, I ran two marathons and found there were folks to talk along the way. My one question is this, if my sister doesn't do it with me, I might be able to start in a faster corral. Is it worth it?

With all of the craziness, I haven't been running as much as I want to and I'm still trying to figure out the best time to run in FL. B/C I slacked off before the move, when I started back up, I was back on week 4/5 of C25K.

Ok, I really will get caught up soon and should have some time to check in from now on!

I'm to the west of you in Tampa and struggling with the ideal time to run too. The last two weeks or so we've (running with the kids to get ready for the Halloween 5K) headed out after 8:00PM, even as late as 8:45 and that's really been the best temperature wise. Unfortunately, the park we've been going to here is changing their hours from 5AM - 11PM to sunrise to sunset so we're going to have to rethink things. Youngest ds and I were out about 7:30 this morning and it was just to hot and humid. We got the 25 minute run in but it was miserable by the end.

I was introduced to running skirts about 6 months ago and I haven't looked back since. I love them!! So very comfortable and much more flattering on me than running shorts (too much cottage cheese for the real nice short ones). I'm addicted to the ones from skirtsports dot com. They don't creep, ever. and their selection is fun. They even have dresses...but I'm not built for those yet! I have two of these

and wash and wear then for every run.
I have a Nike running skirt that I picked up at Academy sports, but the under shorts creek up and are a bother to wear.

Have you tried a physical therapist who works with sports injuries? I work for a rehab specialty hospital and I swear by our PT dept for injuries. they can even help with orthotics. Of course I found out the hard way that shoes DO make a difference! I tired a new pair and ended up with blisters and shin splits after one 3 mile run! Went back to old ones and not a clue of trouble (after I healed from the huge blisters of course). Good luck! from one over 40 to another!

Does the skirt run true to size?

It sounds like Plantar Fasciitis to me. I have it in my right foot and it is a major pain. I am lucky that mine does not hurt when I run...just when I do everything else. :confused3 I have custom orthodics and now I am trying acupuncture to help with it. So far it is working.

HI Laides, I am registered. I am so happy

I ran this last year for the first time. I was an amazing weekend. I was/ and still am a bit over weight, I was solo, but found the most amazing women that met me down in FL and changed my life forever. Thank You Goddess.

I can't wait to do it again.. OH Boy, now I need to get of my butter butt and run.

Yes! :thumbsup2 I'm larger than your average runner (down to a 14, but with SERIOUS muffin top!). I ordered a XL and it is perfect for me. I love that the legs of the undershorts don't creep up. They are an inch or two longer than the undershorts of the Nike skirt I bought. The longer undershorts go over the bulge near the top of my inner thigh (sorry for TMI, but its an important fit factor) so there is no inner thigh chaffing. That and that skirt cover my sweaty bum...which would always make it looked like I peed my pants. Sorry about the unpleasantries...but we're all friends here, right? ;)

Right! :thumbsup2 Thanks! I may have to try this one out. I need a new running skirt.

I wear running skirts too, although I wear runningskirts.com brand, but I always have that look after runs too. I'm so glad I have the skirt to cover that :rotfl:

So excited to be joining you guys on this thread!! I am now registered to run and am scared to death! LOL!! I haven't ran since high school, so I have a lot of training to catch up on. I am running with a good friend of mine and really looking forward to it.

I even bought a running set to wear and how silly that it makes me even more excited to run! LOL!!

Here is what I bought.

I will be checking in with you frequently to get helpful tips on making this easier. I am so clueless.

I bought it from a girl on Craigslist. she bought it at an expo to wear to the tinkerbelle marathon and never ended up wearing it. It is from runningskirts.com but I can't find it on there. I think it is from an older line. I really really want to find it for my friend that is runnign with me too, so if you come across one let me know!

Will do. And please do the same! :)

Ok, this is kind of a strange question. I am a photo nut and am concerned about where I keep a camera while running?? What do others do? I will have to buy a small one b/c right now all I have is my DSLR. LOL!! I just wanted to be able to take pics with characters along the way.

I ran the princess this year and just carried my Sony camera in my hand the whole time. I got really efficient at running right up to the cast member and handing my camera off to them, jumping in with the character for the picture and then grabbing my camera and I was on my way running again.:rotfl2:
That was better than pulling my camera out of a pack each time. I probably took over 25 pictures and had a great time.:cool1:
