Official 2012 Princess Half Marathon Thread!

Hi everyone! I haven't been on in a while. Wish I could say I was MIA but there hasn't been alot of action here on my part.

I finally went to the doctor after limping through a 4.4 mile race and not only did I have PF but also a small heel spur. According to the podiatrist the heel spur was brought on because I continued to run with PF instead of letting it heal. I have been pouting and riding the bike of frustration.

Julie, are you back to running now?

I'm still planning on running the Princess and hope to be back training by September.

I was all set to do this 1/2 when I decided to do the Tinkerbell 1/2 in January. I just don't think that I could do both of these within a month of each other. I'll prob do the 5k..still trying to decide if I could do both

Jennifer

I'm holding off registering until I can hopefully get a coupon code. I'm definitely doing it, but I want to see if Disney Visa has a code, or if Disney emails one out to people on their email list. I still need to decide what color bib I want to choose....

Do any DVC owners know what the availability of AKV is right now for that weekend? I'm thinking about going ahead and renting points to stay there. Just curious what's left in the studios...

Hey Jennifer, I signed up for the Tinkerbell 1/2 and that will be my first 1/2 marathon and I have just signed up for this one. I started my running regiment in March and just finished a couple of 5k in May. These days I can run 10k very very slowly once a week and not feel too horrible afterwards, so I think doing 2 1/2 marathon a month apart for me is do-able and I still have just over 5 months to do it, oh well, fingers crossed :)

They haven't released a code in the last two years that I know of? If you find one, though, that would be awesome! :)

Bummer. I felt like I got a ton of codes for marathon weekend between what Disney emailed out, and my Disney Visa.

How fast do the host hotels go? In the past has it been better to use DVC points or cash? We usually use DVC for our summer vacations. Would it be better to use points for this weekend?

Okay...a couple (silly) questions, that would probably be answered if I called Disney.

1) I'm not sure who's coming with me (if anyone at this point...:sad1:), does that matter for when I book the resort? Can I just book as a 'single' and potentially change it when I've finished begging/pleading/manipulating someone to come with me...or do I even need to bother to change it? (Obviously, I'm not a Disney visitor....)

2) The registration says anticipated finish time...so do I put in my time based on the fact that I actually plan to train for this, or should I just use my 10k from last weekend for now and hope for a better time in October?

Thanks!

Can't answer #1.....if you want to register go ahead and put your 10k time down. IF you do better in October at another race, you can email them with your time and proof and they will adjust your registration. That is what I did last year, I ran a 10K on Thanksgiving and emailed the info to them - I gave them the race name, date, my time and the link to the race results. I believe you can change it as late as the expo.

So sorry to hear about your heel spur! I am running not regularly though. May 2 times a week max and low mileage. I am still a little sore, though its def better and I can wear my birks without my heel hurting. My ankle has been SO tight though which has me concerned. I did a 10k yesterday in a fairly decent time for me...not a record, but it was crazy hot and hilly and feel fine today. I actually felt good afterwards yesterday also.....my foot never bothered me during the race, though I had some tight calf issue in the same leg...I think its loosening up down in my foot...but still I need to stretch better. I am going to get new shoes and re-evaluated for something more supportive I think and am toying with the idea of going back to doc about my ankle to make sure I am not hosing things up because I know I have been walking different to compensate for the foot....THOUGH, its much better than it was.

Hopefully yours will heel in time for training to start in Sept.

Yep, I felt good enough to sign up today...which might be crazy, but what can I do, I want that medal and photo with Capn Jack Sparrow.

1) No, it doesn't matter. Book it as single. If you book room only, you have until 5 days before the trip to cancel or change, too, with no penalty. FWIW, Disney sometimes charges extra for more than 2 people in a value or moderate room. Take that as you will. :)

2) I would put the time that you estimate finishing after training, and use the 10K as your proof. For example, I finished a half in 2:49 and put my estimated finish time as 2:35 and used that race as proof, and wound up in corral C (of A-F, so I was happy). If your October time is way better than you estimated, you can always email the time to Disney, or show it at the race expo and they will change your corral.

This is my first as well. I am so excited. I am signing up tonight with my friend.

WELCOME PRINCESSES!

All signed up :cool1: Tomorrow morning i am going to call and book the room. I plan on staying at the All Star Movie Hotel it is cheap so it works for me.

I want to sign up right now, but I want to make sure my sister will do it with me so we can sign up together as a sister team. I didn't know we could name our team. We'll have to come up with something good since we both have 4 kids. Does anyone know, if we are a team do they put our team name on our bibs or our real names? I can't wait to sign up. I'm gonna call DVC and at least book a room tomorrow. I'm so excited. Now to keep running! Can't wait to meet all you princesses on race day!

You will receive 2 different bibs (both with the same number). One with the team name, one with individual name. you can choose which one that you use. I ran with my sister last year as a team. I did see some of the teams where the put one bib on the front, and put the other on there back. Have fun, running with my sister at the princess was such a fun thing to do!!:goodvibes

I just tried to register my husband and i but after putting in my cc information the website said it was down for maintenance. I saw a place where it said to check if I was registered and it had me but not my husband. Now I dont know if I'm registered or not. I've been looking forward to this all day and now I have no idea if I'm registered.

Registered me & DH:banana:
Also registered my DS9 for the 5k. DH doing it with him.
And registered my DS8 and DS12 for the 1 mile. All I could talk them into :lmao:
And then my sister registered today too! Now to get my best friend registered and we'll be ready!

But I'm so excited!~!!! When I first started running to lose weight, I said this would be my goal, adding my obsession of Disney with my love/hate relationship with running. When I'm asked why I would want to run from my not-so-active friends, I say I was "running from the 60 pounds I lost" and now I'm "Chasing down the last 20 that seem to be faster than I am" So off I go.....:yay:

:woohoo:

Good luck to everyone who has committed and registered!!!!!

Welcome to Red Rose and BigEeyore!

I registered yesterday too, in fact I registered 2 teams worth. All my DD's will be running with me this year (so 4 of us total.) A friend I'm renting points from will call today to try to book AKL for us- so I'm psyched. I need to keep my fitness up with the sore knee until I can have the surgery (hopefully soon after the 18th). Last time I had meniscus surgery I was running 3-4 weeks later and did the 5-K at WDW marathon weekend 6 weeks after the surgery. I think maybe I babied it a little that time so we'll see how it goes this time but should have no problem with Feb.

We wore 2 bibs last year so if you saw a "Don't call me Shirley" team that was DD#2 (Becky) and I. This year we are not quite so creative and will be Meyer Princesses One and Two. LOL
