:sad1: I'm sorry about the job, Kat, I've been away for a few days and I'm trying to catch up. Use the stress and go outside and run, and might help you focus more. Hugs to you and I hope all turns out ok. Keep us posted... and I wish I could help but I'm in Nashville :P

Thanks!!! As it turns out, the search is going really well so far. My phone seems to be ringing constantly, and I have 4 phone interviews scheduled already.

I think that's a great time for a first 10K with lots of hills! Great job! I agree with Julie - submit it, but you can always send them a faster one later if you have one. I would think, though, that the 1:18 would at least get you in Corral C.

Ahhh jeez... my goal is Corral B... now I'm wondering what my time will have to be be that. :scared1:

For B? I think it's around 2:15-2:30 for a half. But I think it depends on how many sub-2 hour folks they get to to put in A. If they get a small enough crowd, they'll put the 2 hour and 2:15 crowd in A too...but if the sub-2 hour group is large enough, they will get their own corral. But that's a total guesstimate!

Is anyone else rethinking Princess now for this new Tinkerbell race? I think I might. The Fantasyland construction won't be done in time for Princess, plus if I hold out another year, I think next year is the 5 year anni and (hopefully) we'll get a special medal. Plus I haven't been to LA in ages, I would love to make a trip out of it.

My 10K last year was 1:05 and I got into Corral B; I think I put 2:30 down as my est. finish time.

I know what you mean about the Tinkerbell half. I am totally a Tink girl (hence the username) and it would just be so cool to do the inaugural Tink run! However, I'm in GA, so it's obviously much closer and cheaper to just stick with the Princess. To do both, I would need a second job! :rotfl:

I've never been to Disneyland and I too am from the south so DisneyWorld is easier plus in-laws live super close to WDW so we are going to visit them before the race and drive over to our hotel together. I think they might be staying to cheer me on along with DH :) Although my mom wants to come down too and just take the kids out of school instead of watch them hahaha

I submitted a 10K of 1:12 and was in corral B. I think it just depends on how big the race is and how many corrals they decide to have. Good luck!

I would LOVE to do a DL race, my in laws live out there and I would have a cheering section. BUT, its easier for me to get to WDW and after my slow race last year due to my injury I want redemption and a better time.....so going back! I like the idea of women's race, go ahead and flame me if you must, so def want to do that one at some point. Who knows what I will decided by July!

One thing I don't like about the DL courses are you run through the park SO early in the race, like mile 2.....I wish they would reverse it and you ran first through CA and then DL at the end!

The tink race starts in DTD and ends in DCA (or near it). They made a new course for the race.

A little sad, but yes, I am. I went ahead and registered for the Tink. I had already told one of my cousins, who showed some interest in training for the Princess next year, that I would run that one with her if she wanted. So, I told her this morning about the new Tink race to see if she may want to do that one instead of Princess. She's still not sure on anything, and can't make a commitment this early because of her school schedule (she'll be graduating college next year). I'm thinking she'll be more likely to want to do Princess since she'll have alot more time before registration to figure out if she can work it in. So, since I already said I would, I'll make the Princess work if she still wants to do it, but she's out, I'll probably skip it this time around. Yeah, I say that now, but wait until it gets closer...I'll change my mind!!! I have ZERO willpower when it involes a combo of Disney, girly-stuff, and shiny medals!!!!

I wish I could wait until after November to make a final decision on which race to do. I'm (hoping) to run the New York Marathon for a second year. If I can manage to get across that finish line injury-free, the Tinkerbell race at the end of Jan would be prime time to capitalize on that marathon fitness for a fast half marathon. Of course, if I end up in a situation where I'm nursing runner's knee (like this past year), a race date at the end of Jan might be a little dicey.

I'm coming from the northeast, so both Tinkerbell and Princess are out of the question. Unless I win the lottery and quit my job so I can just follow runDisney around across the country :lmao:

Hello everyone!

Just a quick intro - my name is Amanda and I live in Melbourne, FL - about an hour east of WDW. A few years ago, I completed a couple 5K's but that is about the extent of my "running" experience... I put "running" in quotes, since I was only jogging, and some people can walk faster than I can jog. lol

Anyway, a couple friends and I somewhat jokingly talked about doing the Princess 1/2 but now it's turned serious and we are all committed! None of us are very athletic or love running, which will make it even more rewarding when we cross that finish line!

Right now, my walking pace is not even close to the required 16 minute mile, so I have a lot of work to do. I know I won't be able to walk the whole thing - I will be so disappointed if I wind up having to get picked up for going too slow! So I definitely need to get on this training ASAP.

Since we have just over 10 months to go, I think I'm going to start which the Couch to 5K program. Then maybe do a 10K training program, and then finally do one of the 1/2 marathon training programs. Do you guys think this would be a good way to build my endurance?

thanks and I look forward to chatting some more with you all as the months go by! :)

Welcome! Your training plan sounds great! Also, if you can't find a local program, you can find all kinds of programs online. I used Hal Higdon's, but Jeff Galloway has them online as well - just google both names and you can find training plans at their sites. You have plenty of time - I didn't start until last August, and I never ran at all before. This board is an awesome source of info about both training as well as the Princess race itself - what to expect on race day. Lots of supportive people!:hippie:

I know, right?!?! :headache: I want that Tink medal! But here's my question - since a majority of the Tink race is running through Anaheim, will they still have all the characters and such out for pictures as often as they did at the Princess? B/c even though we weren't in the parks for that long, it was still pretty much a road that is Disney-dominated.

Anyway, better get on that budget reduction!

Ooohhh how I feel the same. Our budget already isn't fond of the Princess  hahaha no way could I do the Tink as well :crazy2:

I agree, check out jeffgalloway.com . I have 3 of his books. Just started the "Half Marathon You Can Do It". Might sound nerdy, but the guy knows his stuff. I am working on his 10k "training schedule" to get below 1 hour- I'm almost there!!
If you order them from Barnes & Noble's website, they have free shipping :yay:and the books are around 35-40% cheaper.

I think it is a great plan. I would look backward and see how much time you have. Then I would recommend taking it slow. You might be able to skip the 10K plan, so don't worry about taking c25K too slow. You do not want to risk getting injured. I like Galloway better than the c25k btw. I like that he stays with intervals (I do different ones now based on how far I am running, still trying to totally figure that out though). Once I got to c25k weeks with all running, I had a really really hard time. My goal is to finish a Half Marathon, I don't need to run it all. Totally depends on your goals, but it sounds like you have a good plan.

Hello everyone! I have to do a little intro of myself. I am seriously overweight currently (I'm 22, 270, and 5'6" - after a jan trip to disney I'd lost 10 lbs but I gained it back plus some because of stress, changing jobs, etc) so I have a long way to go but after reading all of your posts I've really gotten inspired to do the half marathon! I have a long way to go and I'm honestly very nervous because I'm one of those people who used to go out and grab life by the balls but something changed and now it's scary to attempt anything because of the thought of failure :headache:

BUT I am committing myself. I've gotten some books by "The Penguin" and Jeff Galloway as well as printed out a C25K plan. I'm just going to have to do it in the gym vs on the street as there really isn't a good place to do it in my neighborhood.

So I have a question for all of you ladies that have done the race before: Did you wear costumes? Because that's not an interest of mine to do at the marathon at all... :rolleyes1 Also what did you bring with you on the run and where did you store it? I imagine that toting a camera on your wrist isn't too comfy after a few miles...

Good for you :thumbsup2 Don't give up! :cheer2:My sister is about 4 inches shorter than you but was about the same weight. She started running last summer, did her first 5k with me in September, and finished in 45 minutes! To this day has lost 30 pounds. You can do it !

Just like George McFly says "If you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything"!

I plan on getting a running skirt (they're expensive!)for the half. I am on the WDW Radio running team so I have to wear their shirt. But I think a tiara and some body glitter is a must!

Congrats on making the commitment...that is often the hardest part! The 2011 Princess was my first half marathon and I couldn't have picked a better race. I ran it alone, but had a group of supporters out there cheering me on and it was great! As far as what to wear...I did not wear a "costume." I originally planned to wear an outfit that involved a tutu, but changed my mind because it was just so fluffy and I was getting really nervous that if I wore something I wasn't 100% comfortable with, it was going to ruin the race for me. In the end, I chose a pony tail holder that had a rhinestone tiara attached to it, a black bondi band with tiara printed on it (I picked this up at the Bondi Band booth at the Expo!). I embellished a running shirt with iron-on rhinestone transfers that I had ordered a couple of months in advance...minnie w/ tiara on front and "Princess Summer" on the back, then a pink "Team Sparkle" running skirt over some Nike compression shorts. So, you can still be totally with the theme without actaully having to wear a costume. There were plenty of people there in full costume and plenty in just their regular running attire...and all in between. Have fun with it! I chose not to carry a camera on this race...I wanted to just run this first race to the best of my ability to see what I could do...so I did not stop for pics. I plan to go back to run this one again eventually and stop as much as possible for pics! During the race, I wore single-bottle fuel belt with 2 pouches on either side...one I used for my ipod and the other for my personal race-fuel of choice: Jelly Belly sports beans. Use all the time you have for training to figure out what works for you! :cheer2:
