I agree about the Garmin. DH and I have a 205 and a 305 and although the large size does take a little getting used to, they stay on my thin wrist just fine. They don't even slide around when I get sweaty. (TMI, but important IMO :) ). I don't even notice I'm wearing it any more.

Well...it occurred to me that since I can't find the thing in a bricks and mortar store in town, I could email garmin and just ask them if it will fit a wrist that is 5-1/2 inches. Now we'll see if the internet works both ways. If I don't hear from them, I'll just buy it from Amazon and return if necessary.

The problem now is that I have to wait until June. I promised myself no toys until I "graduate" from C25K.

And the official "response" is:

"Thank you for contacting Garmin International.

I would be happy to assist you with this.
The Forerunner 305 comes with a large and small straps. These should accommodate any wrist.
We also carry a velcro strap as well should you wish to utilize that.

Please let me know if you have any other questions. "

Also remember the 205 and 305 are the same except that the 305 has the heart rate strap (which I didn't want, but you might). Just so you know. I just tried on my 205 to see and I have quite a few extra holes to synch it tighter still and that is using the smaller band. You will be just fine.

So I just finished my first 10K and felt it went not so well. I ran it in 1:18...tons of hills and even a switchback!
Do y'all think this is good enough to submit for the 1/2? I am running another 10K in the fall, so there is still hope for a better time.

Good luck! I know plenty of people with both, but that won't help you try one on from here. :)

So, I got laid off yesterday. I guess at least I have plenty of time for training now, right?

@Elyn - I LOVE my 305. My wrist is 5.75" and never an issue. The design of the unit helps it from sliding around also, and yes IT IS MY BFF. I really miss it, so bringing it out this week. I love that I can see the face easily since its so huge.

@Kat - so sorry about your job....hey, my husband is looking to hire a few developers if you want to move to our area. :goodvibes

Today I officially started my 10k Training for the big Atlanta Race on July 4th. My foot has been bothering me but decided i cant just be dormant, so I will be doing 3 cardios a week. 1 will be a run outside, the other 2 might be gym or running depending on how I am feeling in the old foot. I haven't been stretching or icing enough...I am SO OVER PLANTAR FACIITIS. BUT felt great to sweat it out today. I did 12 minutes on treadmill - with 1/1 interval and my run was FAST 10mm, then 13 min on the bike and then 14 minutes on the eliptical. I was pretty tired so yeah, I have some work to do.

I wanted to do a 5k today - last minute, but man we had crazy storms last night....actually the one around 7 with golf ball sized hail scared the crap out of me, and as the other storms came through, I was tied to my computer and TV...though none were as bad as that first one. I was up til like 3:30 as I get paranoid about a tree falling on our house. We slept downstairs though and I have to say, that airmattress was COMFY, so should I ever need it for guests, I have tried it out.

So excited 3 weeks from today we go to WDW for a week! Me DH and our 4 year old princess are meeting my mother in law. Wahoo, we are staying at the Wyndham Bonnet Creek which we loved last year. Cannot wait!

Happy training princesses!

Hey way to go! I would go ahead and submit it as you can always email them if you get a faster time in the fall. I ran a 10k in the fall and just emailed my time..

FYI, with my 5.75" wrist I wear mine with whatever band it came with ON the watch and there are still 2 more holes to make it smaller when buckling the strap. HTH

I think that's a great time for a first 10K with lots of hills! Great job! I agree with Julie - submit it, but you can always send them a faster one later if you have one. I would think, though, that the 1:18 would at least get you in Corral C.

10-K this morning - Hit my one hour goal todaaaaaay! I kind of feel like it's cheating since the route was 97% completely flat, but I'll take it! I had to haul my FANNY off to get in under the wire; the first words my husband said to me after I crossed were, "You started 10 seconds after the clock so you got it!" I think he was worried I was going to be beating myself up, but I was totally happy - I told myself under an hour or AT an hour.

Even prouder news - my 9y.o. son ran the one mile Fun Run (his first) and finished in first place! I was already gone by the time the FR started so I don't know how many kids, what ages, et cetera, but I'm proud! The kid is getting the bug - he wants to start going with me on my short runs so he can work up to a 5K. He is my, umm, "high energy" child, so this could be a great outlet for him!

Great job Amy!!! :banana::dance3::yay::cheer2:

Well, I've been walking several times a week, trying to work up to getting back to a jog - I'm far enough past my surgery I can start that part now - and today I went to the mall; by the time I got done in two stores, my right knee was very swollen and thick-feeling (which happens to me sometimes). By the time I could get home, every step sent a very odd, thick line of muted pain down the back of my thigh into my butt. Feels like a strap from my knee to my backside.

So I don't know what I did. I'm used to the sometimes-randomly-swelling-knee, but this thigh pain is odd. I came right home and put ice on the knee; done two cycles so far, but it's not really going down. *sigh*

I'll chime in again and give props to the Garmin 205. I'm 5'3 and small boned and I was worried at first the 205 would be a monster but honestly after only one run I was totally used to it. I ADORE this thing. I like to say it's my BFF.

Just my 2 cents worth....

To tag onto the Garmin 205 as a BFF....my sister has always joked that when she hit the lottery she was going to hire a Swedish personal trainer named Sven.

When I gave her a Garmin, she immediately christened it "Sven". Not to be left out I named mine "Lars". :rotfl:

Gets worse....last year we both gave our college age kids 205s for Christmas as both have been bitten by the running bug. My niece named hers "Gustaf" and my son decided his would be "Inga" :rotfl2:

Can you tell we have fun with this sport? :rolleyes1

I'm not a doctor, but sounds like you are talking about your IT band...I'm currently having some issues with mine as well, and that's basically where it is and what it feels like. I'm starting PT on tuesday to help with that and another knee issue. It's possible that tightened up on you since you've been inactive from your surgery. I hope it's feeling better soon!

as far as schedules for the trip go. . . This year for the Princess DD#2 and I got to Florida on Tuesday did Uni and WWoHP Tuesday/wed . Headed to WDW Wed evening hit parks Thurs, Friday (did the expo the first day it was open (Thur?? or ? it was very quick and easy) went to a park early Saturday but sorta hung out at the resort Saturday afternoon and evening. After the race we went to MK for dinner and the night time stuff. Monday was a park day and we left tuesday.

Just read that the guy that won the Boston Marathon won it in 2:03! A 4:41 pace for 26 miles! Holy cow!

Not sure if I feel inspired or pathetic....:worship:

My new tag line for my princess shirt, "In my dreams I run like a Kenyan!"

Yes! OMM has one of those shirts, and I love it! My best half marathon doesn't even beat his full marathon time:rotfl:

:sad1: I'm sorry about the job, Kat, I've been away for a few days and I'm trying to catch up. Use the stress and go outside and run, and might help you focus more. Hugs to you and I hope all turns out ok. Keep us posted... and I wish I could help but I'm in Nashville :P
