Official 2012 Princess 1/2 marathon thread part 2

I started packing last night. The weather forecast keeps changing so I'm bringing a little bit of everything. I have reminder list every where. I'm leaving from Atlanta in the morning.
I finished my costume yesterday. After a lot of BIG talk that I would not wear a silly costume, guess what I'm wearing....... My sister in law talked me into it. I made a hot pink and black Minnie Mouse tutu. I also made Minnie Mouse ears with a huge hot pink bow. I actually love the the costume on the hanger. On me, not so much. I look like one of those ballerina elephants in Dumbo. :rotfl:

I do have a few tips for anyone new to the race this year:

*Bring your sunglasses. You are running into the sun the last part of the race.

*Stick a little toilet paper in your bra or bag. There are porta pottys along the race route but the lines are insane. However, there are lots of bushes and trees and lots of people use them. I even saw some people pop a squat on the side of the road. Hey, I didn't judge. This race is serious business. You can't waste time walking to a bush or tree.

*Bring your own Tylenol or Advil. I think around mile 9 or 10, they do offer Tylenol but you have to sign paper work and again wait in line.

*If you're a baseball fan, the Atlanta Braves hold their spring training at the Wide World of Sports Complex. This is the same location where the Expo is held. Last year, we watched batting practice right behind home plate. It was a lot of fun and we got great pictures of the players.

*Have fun!!!!!! :goodvibes

Can anyone tell me if the All Stars will allow a late check out for participants?
We stayed off property during previous races and we were allowed a late check out.
Thanks for any info!

If anyone is staying at the Caribbean Beach Resort look for my door and say hi.
These are some of my signs (there will be graphics and maps on these as well):

Great call on your own Advil! No need to wait and more time for photo ops!

I've decided to just wear my usual black running hat with my Minnie costume. I don't think I could handle ears or a tiara for that long! I may try to add a red and white polka dot bow to my hat!

Just wanted to wish everyone safe travels to Disney, and good luck for the race! This was supposed to be my first 1/2, and my first Disney race, but between illness, injury, transportation and child care issues, it simply wasn't going to happen. With all of you in spirit, and will be cheering loudly for you on Sunday from here in VA! Can't wait to see your pics and read your stories.

Here is a picture of my tutu if this works right. I am going to wear a purple short sleeve shirt with it. The tiara is from my wedding, so not the tiara I will be running in. The picture is from before I lost 20 lbs. Sorry it is large. I will also be in corral C.

I've been wearing my Minnie ears around the house so I would get used go them. I thought about wearing them on a run but chickened out.

I would skip the NSAIDs until after the race. they can create health issues...i think Disney even warns you in the final instruction. surprised they give it out on course!

I have seen people do some strange things to avoid the porta potties. I'm all for not wanting to stand in line but really going to the bathroom ten feet past the start line (happened at the MCM)? You had plenty of time to do it before getting in your corral and there was plenty of covered space to do your business before the start of the race. Personally I just bypass long line ones unless I really have to go and just account for the time in training if I have to use the restroom. Usually I luck out and have fairly short wait times but every once and a while. Basic rule of thumb if their is only two porta potties don't stop, the line is very slow. If it has a half dozen though go ahead your usually on your way within a few minutes tops (versus ten) And then their a couple of porta potties that make me shudder just thinking about them (hovering is your friend in those cases). Kudos to the one popping a squat at the side of the road, could never do it in plain sight (rural races with a car around yes, in plain sight no).

It just kind of hit me I'll be in Florida this time tomorrow. My first solo vacation! I'm so excited! Going for one final short run tonight and maybe a quick two miler in the morning if I can pull myself out of bed with enough time to run, get cleaned up, and back to the apartment before I leave. Flight leaves around 9:00 and gets in around 3:00. Have ADR at 7:30 at Garden Grove and then depending on the time I may spend some time over at Downtown Disney. Bringing my DSLR for this trip too!

Also something that continues to mystify me is the fact that my first full (Napa Valley Marathon) wouldn't give me a painkiller when I first started hurting but all the other races will supposedly will. Weird.

Good luck, everyone! I'll be wishing you well during the race. I ended up bailing as we went to Costa Rica this week to visit my in-laws. It has been fun following your progress. Here's hoping I'll join you in 2013...or maybe the Wine and Dine 1/2 in November.

They only give out Tylenol. And yes, they do warn you about Advil but I guess you have to use your best judgedment. My doctor says Advil is fine. To each his own I guess.

i mean the likelihood of anything happening is rather small. i admit: it was my TOM during my goal marathon the past november. it was my second full, and i pretty much spent the better part of the year base building and looking for revenge on my time last year. there was no way i was letting cramps slow me down, so i took a couple of aleeves before the race (the only pill that seems to work for me) and i lived to tell the tale and had a strong race. but the risks are still out there, and it's good to at least make an informed decision :thumbsup2

If it's really busy around the medstations they get a whole lot less formal with their paperwork. Near the beginning of the race when hardly anyone stops at the med tents, I noticed the volunteers were taking bib numbers and writing them down for getting bio freeze. Later in the race there were more runners stopped when I grabbed some Tylenol/ I heard someone shouted out my number, but I didn't see anyone writing numbers down. Near the end of the race there was a lady in the middle of the road putting biofreeze into runners hands as they ran by. :rotfl: This was during the marathon, didn't stop for anything during the 1/2, but I'm sure it's the case with most med stops as the race progresses.

Sad news-I have been diagnosed with pneumonia. Sad, sad,sad today. My mom won't run without me so I feel doubly bad. I feel like I let her down.
Good news is Dr said I could travel and that the Fl sun and humidity will be good for me. Much luck to all of you!!

Rosie I hope you're feeling better soon! Hopefully the sunshine helps. Sorry to hear that your mom won't run without you, I'd probably do the same myself though! If you're up to it and available, feel free to drop in on one or all of the Meets so you can catch a group photo op!

Patty, Glad to hear you're feeling better!

Safe travels everyone! :woohoo:

Tomorrow morning we will be on our way bright and early, well not so bright but early! Good luck everyone and safe travels. Can't wait to meet up with everyone on Friday night. princess:

I hope everyone who isn't feeling their best gets some good rest and feels better for this weekend! If I'm not on tomorrow, I hope everyone has safe travels, and has a blast during the 1/2!

I decided that I didn't want to pack too early, so I put off packing, and now I'm having to pack everything tomorrow after work. Hopefully I don't forget anything! As long as I get my race outfit and shoes in my bag I should be able to replace anything else I forget at least. If anyone is at AKL this weekend, I'll be around there in my WISH bondibands. Say hi if you see me! I'm hoping to get to the resort around 2:30-3:00 on Friday and head straight to the expo, then I'm heading to the pool for some R&R, maybe a few zebra domes, and lots of water. I'm not going to get dehydrated during this race!

haha...last year, I stopped at every biofreeze opportunity and slathered it on my legs and ankles......not body said a word!

if I read a post about coral placement correctly, I am in corral A. I registered the first day the race opened, but I am not a fast runner. I dowloaded my waiver form and my bib number is 8109. Does that mean I am in corral A?

I am so excited about the race. I am just trying to keep everyone in the family healthy. My oldest daughter woke up with a stomach bug this morning. Ugggh! I am praying it doesn't go through the family. We leave Friday.

I have not posted in some time because I lost this discussion page. So glad I found you. Thank you for all your tips and inspiration. When I started training last April, I could barely finish a mile. As long I as can avoid illness or injury, I am on track to finish this. Thank you all!!!!!
