Official 2012 Princess 1/2 marathon thread part 2

haha...last year, I stopped at every biofreeze opportunity and slathered it on my legs and ankles......not body said a word!

I'm still new to this stuff and don't know much about biofreeze... can it be slathered on over compression sleeves and tights and stuff, or just over bare skin? :upsidedow

Just wanted to post again. I re-read a post about my placement. I think I will be in Corral D not A which makes much more sense. I had told myself that no matter what corral I was in, I was just going to be happy to be there.

I am so excited! I am pretty much packed and ready to go. I am praying for a healthy family.

Thanks again!

I really need to get to bed, since I have my last weekday run in the morning! I just keep going over ratios and splits and course plans...

Just looked at the weather again and noticed a chance for rain on Sunday. I usually don't bother with a rain jacket or poncho while running but I may pack something this time, just to be prepared. What does everyone else run in when it is raining?

I'm hopeful that the rain holds off until at least 9:00, but that's a lot to ask!

I've never actually ran in the rain before. I think my plan is to see if I can find a cheap poncho somewhere and bring a back up running outfit (capri's & shirt) to ditch the costume idea. Even though my costume isn't much of a costume compared to most people's, if it's going to be wet I don't see myself wearing a running skirt.

I'm also going to bring dry clothes to change into after the race, but is there anywhere near the finish to change?

Although my biggest concern is my medal. I don't want it to get wet!

I've seen people put it on over their socks, but I personally roll my socks down quick before putting the biofreeze on.

I usually avoid running in the rain if I can, but I've read some tips on rain running that I'm going to pack for. I've heard the visors or a hat help keep rain out of your face when it is raining. If it is raining in the morning having some bags to wrap around your feet while waiting in the corrals will help keep your feet and socks dry, ditch the bags before you start though! Put a little ziploc bag in your pocket or race belt to keep phones or cameras dry, and leave the ipod in the hotel room. Bring a trashbag or poncho to wear before the race starts to keep your body dry. HTH, but hopefully if we all pack for rain we won't need any of this stuff!

The portapoties right outside the bag check area would be the closest place to change. I would probably be tempted to walk over to the real bathrooms outside of entrance to epcot myself. Changing in a portapotty sounds like a disaster waiting to happen for me! :lmao: Bring an extra plastic bag to put your wet shoes in so they don't get other things in your bag wet. As for your medal, I'm sure it would be fine getting wet, If it does rain, the volunteers may cover the stands that hold the medals with a tarp, but chances are the medals will still get wet at some point. If you are worried about it, dry yours off when you change and stick it in your bag if it is raining.

I'm back to feeling icky! This is not good this is not good this is not good! Total GI issues and I am not a happy camper. I feel like I need sleep and it's not happening until I get to Disney. Sob! Bah--- this may end up being another mostly walked race, which I am NOT happy about! Praying this yuck goes away and I am ok for running on Sunday!

Rain--- yeah, I DONT run in the rain. So if it's raining, this will be a first for me. Packing the extra baggies though. I also pack extra biofreeze and vasoline in little baggies and carry that with me in the spibelt. I had to slather them on my thighs last year at mile 10 and 11. Ouch. I am also going to pin an extra pair of socks to my skirt somehow (underneath it) in case I start to develop blisters and need to change the scenery down there!

I so need to call in sick and go back to bed... bah... this is miserable

Biofreeze - I used it a couple of times during the race and not one person said anything. Also, as some pp pointed out, DON'T wipe your eyes after you use the biofreeze - just like putting icy hot on your eyeballs!!!!!

Minor freak out last night - after weeks of prep and my DH stalking the airlines for me for a flight leaving the 23rd, (didn't catch a good fare; we are driving) he asks me LAST NIGHT - "When are you leaving? I thought you were leaving Friday." WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?! :headache:
I have to work today at the preschool, so my plan was to leave work, go home to drop off DS3, take hubs' car, get Julie and get on the road by 1:00! He tells me that he has to go in this morning, and has a call at 2 this afternoon.:scared1: However, he is trying to resched. the call and get home by 1:45. Grrr... can't complain too much - the man is taking on all 3 boys at 3 different schools while "working from home". But that wrench really threw me last night for a bit!

Am all packed and ready - I think.:rotfl: Am hoping this extra time this afternoon affords me to make a playlist - the one thing I have been meaning to do for our long drive but just never got around to. Julie, of course, has her priorities straight and will be making the Diet Coke and beer run while I am at school this morning.

Not at all crazy about the rain prediction, but what can you do? I have a visor so I feel that, unless it just absolutely pours, I'll still be okay and won't let it ruin my good time. I can only hope that rain won't mean less character photo ops on course!!!!:rotfl:

Good luck, princesses, and we'll see ya down there!

Local weather predictions and Weatherbug (which I find more reliable than weather.com) shows less than 20% chance. Most rain chance seems to be in the late afternoon to evening. Keeping fingers crossed for dry, but running in the rain can be fun, believe it or not. Maybe not for stopping and taking pictures along the way, but it can be relaxing as long as it's not a down pour. If you are not running for PR's, might want to bring an extra pair of socks in a zip lock bag to change halfway through if your socks do get soaked to prevent blisters and really sore feet. Other than that, wear a very light water resistant jacket if you have it. I usually get soaked from sweat so it always seems that I have ran in the rain. Good luck everyone. It's close. I ran down there last week and the humidity will knock you in the face pretty good. Will be back tomorrow with DW to run it.

I actually don't mind running in the rain. 74 and 40% chance of rain is better than the 33 and freezing rain we have here now! :lmao: And the rain keeps you a bit cooler.

And now I am LEAVING FOR THE AIRPORT! Disney here we come!!

If you are afraid of the rain, think of it this way: When you run, you get wet. When you run in the rain, you just get wet faster.

Rain is only a pain when it is cold, and we won't have to worry about that on Sunday!

Question for the group - we're staying at the Boardwalk and would like to walk out the International Gateway to get home. I've heard you have to have your park ticket with you to do this. Do people usually carry these with them during the race (taking all precautions of course, plastic bag, take picture of back ahead of time) or check them?

I'm on the Magical Express making my way to the CBR hotel!
Then to Downtown Disney for some lunch.
So excited!:cool1:

I usually don't check a bag. I have a small zip pocket on the running skirt I am wearing that will fit my WDW key. Sometimes I wear a spibelt..like a fanny pack except much smaller and has elastic waistband so it fits snug. It will fit a small camera or phone. They will be on sale at the expo. Ifit has a waist pack that will also be on sale at expo.
Why a pix of your back? Wear your bib on the front so you can be id'ed on course photos.
