Official 2012 Princess 1/2 marathon thread part 2

Is there a waiver for the ChEAR Squad? I signed my mom and dad up for the Bronze package as well as my kids. But my mom and dad won't be getting up to Disney till Saturday night. Anyone know if I can pick up their ChEAR Squad stuff?

My husband and I registered as a team and our numbers are 20027 and 20641. I submitted a 10k time of 1:15 and my husband's time was 47 minutes. I emailed them to ask what corral we are in.

I had emailed RunDisney too, they said I'm in Corral B... but they called me "Deborah" :lmao: So I emailed them back and let them know that is not my name, can you please re-check my info and please I hope I'm still in Corral B!

But she did say in the email that Corral B is for people with estimated finish times of 2:11 and 2:30 - hope that helps people figure out their corrals!! I think I put down an estimated time of 2:30 so I'm in there by the skin of my teeth lol!

Anyone driving to the race?

I'm not staying on property (with friends), so I will be driving to the race. I know most of us on here will be taking a Disney bus, but I have heard the traffic is crazy..it definitely was for the 5k last year and that was a lot less people!

I will be driving to the race, and have driven the last two years as well.

Traffic is a bit nuts but not too bad really. I would try to be getting to Epcot by about 4:15-4:30, and then bring coffee/breakfast/etc with you and stay in the car to stay warm until it's time to go to gear check, take a potty break, and walk to the corral (which will take ~30 min to do all three).

I've never had trouble getting out after the race, but we are slow and take our time getting out of the finish area.

I'm hoping to use the same proof of time to convince Run Disney that I can run it faster than I originally put down. I didn't realize how much time my training would hack off of my original estimate. It could be the difference between B and C for me.

And I must be in corral A by the skin of my teeth. I submitted a 2:10 half as my proof of time. I love that disney isn't being so secretive about corral placements or maybe people just haven't asked in the past :rotfl:

Yay! For some reason I feel like B is the best corral to be in!

And thank you...now I don't have to email them and ask, you've confirmed that I'm in B as well!

This might be getting to specific, but does anyone have any idea how many people are registered? I wonder if they went all the way up to 20,000 before they got to the teams or if there was an earlier cut-off for single runner numbers and then they 'skipped' to the 20,000+ number for the teams? I'm wondering how many people are in each corral...22,000/8 works out to 2750 per corral. Wait a second...if that's the case, could I possibly be in A? Nah...there have to be more than 178 teams in A.

Okay. I'm over thinking this. I'm going to go make a packing list!

I was in B for Tink and I really liked it! I should be in C this time, I'm just hoping it is better then D (I was in last year).

Teams were in the 20000 range for Tink too and there were only 11000 runners so I would assume they are just skipping ahead to distinguish the teams better.

I've been looking at the 10 day for the last week or so I don't think staying warm is going to be a huge issue. It is looking a lot like last year with a low in the high 50's . . . at least so far.

I asked last year and they told me no problem. But I also know some people got some inaccurate information as well. There already seems to be some conflicting information going around about the estimated time cut off for a corral. Which is part of the reason why I have bothered to asked. I will see what my bib says when I get there. That way I know it is right ;)

I remember someone mentioning that they were going to do a sort of Belle outfit with blue and white. Well, yesterday I was a few minutes early for my boxing class, so I did what I always do when I have a spare few minutes and headed to TJ Maxx to see what kind of workout clothes they have (I have a slight problem). Lo and behold, they had a display of blue running skirts and running tanks. Winner! I already have a white tech shirt that the tank can go over...so bookish Belle I am!

I really hope that however I 'stole' this idea from doesn't mind....

I think that was me, and I'm glad! I don't think I'm going to get my act together to do it, and I got a sparkle skirt, so I'm glad someone's going to be my bookish belle friend! (There must be more than this provincial life!) And if I do get my act together, more the merrier!

I have known my bib number for a few days now and I could not be more disappointed. I haven't bothered to even ask what the Corral is.

The thing is - I ran 13.5mi Sunday with a sore knee. I didn't realize at the time that what I was feeling was IT Band Syndrome, but after that run it is really evident what I'm dealing with. I went to Target and bought a foam roller today.

So my question is: will this IT thing keep me from being able to participate? Especially since I'm starting in Corral Z?

Thanks in advance!!

Just remember at the end of the day we all will be wearing the same medal! Take care of that knee!

You are too funny! Corral Z! :rotfl2:

I am by no means an expert on IT band syndrome but I did deal with it with the help of a PT back in December. I felt the same way, I would never be able to participate. Once you get ITBS you know that it brings you to dead stop when running. It took me about 3 weeks to really get my symptoms under control. meaning, I was back to a run/walk.

My program was: FOAM ROLLER!! This thing is a life saver. I can't go even a few days without it now. You MUST do it at least every other day to keep the knots away. Don't stop it or else it will come back. Even though mine is large, I have added it to my packing list. There is no way I can go without it.

Ice. I am a wimp with ice so I did it once a day for 10 min. twice a day is better.

Hip abduction exercise: Side lying leg lifts keeping toes pointed to wall in front of you. Not toward ceiling at all.

Piriformis stretch: not sure how to describe this but my ITBS is related to Piriformis syndrome. Not sure if you would have this too but look up a stretch online. Basically you pull your affected side into hip flexion with knee bent. then pull leg toward center of body.

Sit ups. ITBS is related to a weak core and hip muscles. I added sit ups to my program for overall core strenthening.

I would definately try to see a PT for at least one or two visits before you leave. They work wonders. The good thing about my ITBS is that was not affected by walking. That is really one of the signs of ITBS. Walking should not bother you.

My hip is worse if anything. Now seeking help of an MD. Hopefully not a stress fx like I fear. At least I'll be able to walk it.

My question for all experienced runners. I am thinking I am in corral C with number 7677. For my healthy body, this would have been perfect. Now that I have stopped training and basically hoping to walk it (best case scenario, break into a run here or there), how should I approach the corral? Shuffle myself to the back? I do not want to interfere with the other runners start.

Amy, I would stay where you are. At least, that's what I did last year when I ended up pregnant and in Corral B. A friend had a hip fx and she walked it with me- we both stuck to our original corral, just started way to the right and stayed there most of the first 3 miles. We ran a little, but it wasn't what we expected to run when we signed up for the race for sure. Pretty sure most of Corral B had passed us by the first half mile- we had a little alone time together before C caught up to us!

It may have annoyed some runners, but we started farther in the back of the corral and did our best to stay out of the way. I didn't have anyone yell at me or give me an annoyed look, no one crashed into me or bumped me so I think we were "ok"--- and we were NOT the only ones slowing down in the early corral either. So you won't be alone. I think a lot of runners with injuries that crop up still go ahead and start in their assigned corral.

If you are really good with walking under the pace requirement and are not concerned about sweeping- then by all means move back! But if that's a concern then I would just start in C. Move over & stay out of the way and it should be fine. I'm in C and I won't have any problem if you walk in my corral! ;)

Amy I don't know how bad your IT band is, but I agree with all Patty said. I would also add an aleve twice a day(at least that is what my dr. said. The pain is actually inflammation from the rubbing of the "sheath" that runs from the hip area and connects below the knee. OK, I am Not a doctor so that last bit is the best I can explain it. The rubbing on the side of the knee causes the pain and inflammation. Ice is great too. Fill some paper cups 3/4 full and place in freezer. Take one out and tear paper off around top and rub in the knee area twice a day. All the exercise are good too, but that is something you need to keep up....forever. I only run 3 days a week now and have been fine since my case in 2009, but I had to take almost 3 months off..no running, but was allowed to walk at a slow pace.

Corral placement is what it is.....in the end, if we finish we get a medal and an oppertunity to say we completed a half marathon. My DD arrived last year (on Friday) throwing up. We were in corral B...she hadn't eaten for two day and did ok for the first 6 miles and then faded fast and said everyone was passing her. We make it to the castle together, then she wanted me and her sister to go on.

Ok. Ladies. Take care of yourselves, stay healthy.

I went into last year's Princess nursing an ankle injury and ended up walking a lot of it, especially in the back half.

Like other have said, don't worry about moving corrals right now. Start in the back of your corral and run to the side so if you do need to stop or walk you can get out of the way easily enough.

Good luck and I hope you guys feel better for the race!

I did this last year too. I was in corral C (with a time to prove it), but was recovering from a stress fracture. Basically I just started toward the back and walking and moving aside for anyone behind, and within about 2-3 min we were alone anyhow.

This year, again, sigh, I am recovering from injury and will be doing the same thing. In C, walking.

For those of you who are truly racing this race, remember to CALL OUT that you are passing on the left or right. You will for sure run into those who can't hear you due to headphones, but for those of us who aren't wearing them, it's not exactly fair to get mad for someone not moving if you don't cue them. For the record, I feel the same way about bikers/faster runners on trails.

I had a few people get mad last year, but never said anything until after they passed. It was waaay into the race, too, like mile 6-7, to which I say get a proof of time next time and start in a higher corral if you are really that fast.

Even for those who are wearing headphones, give a shout anyway. I wear headphones, but I keep the volume low specifically so I can hear those warning shouts.

I had ITBS while training for my first half. I found a knee strap online that said it was for people with ITBS, although I'm not sure how much it helped because I got through the race fine, but my knee still hurt bad after the race. I'm no expert, but ice and foam rolling really worked well for me. Also I'd slather on icy hot, or some kind of muscle rub before and during runs to kind of numb the pain.

I had a wardrobe malfunction during the marathon last month and had to stop and walk to fix it almost right away after we got started. I had no problem getting to the side of the road to fix my skirt and spibelt, and didn't hear any nasty comments. I would definitely follow the suggestions of others to start in your corral towards the back and you should be fine. By the time the course gets to the areas where the course gets narrow, you should be with the runners a few corrals back. I don't think I've ever heard any mean comments from runners at Disney, but I wouldn't expect them from woman. Just try not to match speeds with people you are right next to, either pass those people or stay behind them so others can pass. That was my biggest pet peeve in the tight spots during marathon weekend, but I just took the time to enjoy a walk break since there was no way around;)

I've run the Princess injured for the past two years in a row. They have BIOFEEZE at almost every water stop! It's a life saver for ITBS, joint pain, a sore hamstring...all of it. And they give you great big gobs of it, so you can slather it on every few miles.

Just be careful...a bit after I put on the BioFreeze it was time for me to fuel (I use SportsBeans). Yup, I used the same hand I had used to slather on the BioFreeze and grabbed my sports beans. Um....ewww....BioFreeze on your tongue does not feel nearly as good as BioFreeze on sore muscles! :headache::rolleyes1

I got bib 5086, so I'm guessing C? I did email them, so hopefully I'll find out soon. I submitted a 2:33 time, but I'd be shocked if I came within 10 minutes of that this time, so I'll probably shuffle myself to the back of the corral. I'm definitely not as well trained this year, training in the snow and ice is HARD!

I have to get one more really long run in this weekend, I hope the weather holds!

Corral C, I was right! I'm pretty happy with that. :goodvibes

Now just to find a yellow tank top...I'm thinking I might actually get one at Old Navy, and maybe get a technical shirt to go underneath. I don't think I'll want cotton right against my skin.
