Official 2012 Princess 1/2 marathon thread part 2

I did awful in training this week! I went to NYC for work Tues-Thurs and DC to visit a friend for her birthday Fri-this morning. I only was able to get on the treadmill today for 2.5 miles. Gearing up for 12.5 miles next weekend! Great work this week everyone, you beat me by a lot :)

I am so excited to actually see progress in my training! My MM today was 10:40! My first MM was 12 min and it has steadily gone down each time. 5 weeks till the Princess! :yay:

long run done (0 degree C, on a snowy trail, but so much better then the TM)
10.20 km | Duration 1:43:42 |Average Pace 10:10 / km | Average Speed 5.90 km/h

Quite slow, but the snow was tuff, every time I hit a spot of dry trail I could tell that I had no push on the snowy stretches. No running I just didn't trust myself to not twist something, I would rather get the miles in then the speed right now. I am just so happy to be doing long runs, week after week, rather than getting injuries. Next week 12 or 13km!

By 3k I didn't need my gloves, by 5k didn't want my winter headband/ear cover on, by 7k didn't want my sweater on. Legs were great the whole way with long tights and compression capris, have to figure out the top half because there is no way I can take 12k on a treadmill, the trail even with snow was so much better mentally for me.

Is it just me, or does anyone else think this is going to be the longest month of their life?!?! So excited, and I just want to get to it. I've put in 10 miles already, so I know I am ready, it's cold outside and I'm SO ready for a vacation. Already thinking to next year, too! I would love to start socking away $$ to plan for Tinkerbell. Thought about doing the Disneyland half to get the coast to coast, but that would mean high mileage through a Georgia August and that is NOT appealing. Also the fact that the DL half is Labor Day weekend is off-putting travel budget-wise. With Tink, I could hit both close together as well as the GA Publix in March and maybe scale back for the summer, ready to ramp up again for H'ween and Thksgvg halfs.

Ahhh... just trying to stave off the impatience by dreaming ahead.....:cloud9:

Just got my Magical Express stuff!:banana::banana::banana:

Had to do 9 on the inside track at the Y as it was cold and rainy here in Richmond. Just circle after circle, but done in 1:48! Best part was I got home to Magical Express stuff in the mail!

Totally jealous of the ME mail! I want mine!!! I have to check on it again in a couple of days- I called and gave them the info. All was good. Then called back to update something else, and guess what- no airline info listed. Um, helllllooo... already gave it to you! So I am a bit paranoid. The HIGHLIGHT of my trips (I am not kidding here) is packing my bags and knowing I wont have to deal with them through or at the airports. :)

I had a good run yesterday- 4 on the tread. I have a half this weekend planned- figured I needed to do 12.5 for the training run, might as well score some bling too, right? It's the Austin 3M which my friend assures me is a fun race- and is pretty much down hill! YAHOOO! I like down. So this week I am doing a few short and easy runs, then waiting until Sunday.

I am going to pretend I am at the Tink!

If your passes get mailed late they do have some options. Either when you get to Orlando you can let the ME people know what your baggage looks like and they'll find it, or you can pick it up. That happened to me on one of my trips last year. I ended up picking up my bags at the airport for them, but like I said, you can have them do it still.

A few pages back we started a discussion on socks. Since then, I have been trying differernt brands/styles. I was completely happy with my standard sport socks until my 8 miler! I started feeling something like a blister coming on about mile 5 on the ball of my foot. Does anyone use anything special on blisters? Moleskin? NuSKin? Not sure how to progress...fearful my 9 will be cut short this week. Years ago I had a skin graft to the ball of my foot so the area that is chafing (no blister yet) is not typical (tough) sole of the foot skin. It is the graft area.

Any help is appreciated!

I haven't used moleskin for blisters but DD had a very painful plantar wart on the bottom of her foot. I used moleskin on it when she had soccer and she was good to go.

I got blisters from an 8 day WDW vacation a couple years ago. I used the moleskin on them and was good to go! It really helped with the pain. I haven't tried it when running because I haven't had any blisters (except last years Princess!) I DO plan on bringing some in my spi belt for ER fixes. I was in so much pain for the last 4 miles last year it was redonkulous. I had no idea I had blisters- so I didn't stop at the med tents. They probably could have fixed me up. But I was focused on finishing!

Blisters...Band-aid makes a good blister cover product. It sort of molds to your skin and is smoother than mole skin. IMO. And it stays on for a couple days even when showering. If you decided to try it, do it before the event so you know what works.

Here's Run Disney's answer to the whole pin issue:

Just wanted to take a second and say how nice it is to have a thread that is so positive on these boards. Dont know about you guys, but I'm getting so disgusted with how people treat eachother on these boards. I know life isnt pretty, and alot of people have a bunch of crap going on, but good lord. I've noticed a huge difference in the posts within the past year especially. The dog piling on and making people feel like idiots for asking a question is just getting old. Who the hell raised these people to talk to another person like this???

Ugh makes me sick. So thank you to everyone for keeping it up beat this past year!!! Yep that's right.....we rock.

i've actually never used the tags any of the times i've used the magical express. the last few trips i was flying out of nyc with my boyfriend, but my parents were driving up from miami. they had taken care of the reservations under their names, so the address disney had on file was my house in miami and that's where the magical express stuff got sent, and for whatever reasons it never made it to me. it was no big deal to go to the counter to get right on the bus. i actually prefer them not to pick up my bags since im super paranoid about potential lost bags and it makes me feel better to have them in my sight. plus usually the first thing i like to do after traveling is to take a hot shower and put on fresh clothes, so i like having my bag with me as soon as i walk into the hotel.

i know others have recommended band-aids but i would suggest their specific blister bandaids. those things are *amazing* and have been helping me break in ballet flats (that i probably shouldn't be wearing anyways but oh well) for years!

I love this thread. It's been this way every year too. :goodvibes

You will find much the same spirit at the race itself, esp toward the back of the pack. There are a couple of witchy negative people, but most are just there to have fun and are really supportive and encouraging.

About to hit the gym! Bought a pair of orthopedic insoles for my running sneakers ($6 at Walmart). They're supposed to help posture and therefore help with knee, back and hip pain. They feel funny in my sneakers but I'll see if i feel good after my run.

See you ladies later!!

For any run that I'm worried about blisters, I put on either my pair of Wrightsocks double-layered socks (I wore them during the torrential downpour of the RnR Providence Half, and the ONLY problem I had was waterlogged feet) or a thin pair of smartwool socks.

If I have blisters already on my feet or I'm anticipating a rub spot, I use Spenco's 2nd Skin Burn Pads or the drugstore equivalent. Cut a little larger than the blister/rub spot, and secure with prewrap/athletic tape. I find for blisters (especially open ones), this is great since it's sterile and it won't adhere to the open blister. Plus it adds some padding.

I've read through the last couple pages and want to say --Great job everyone!!

We tried to do 8 yesterday but when we got to our usual path it was covered in about 4inches of snow. We decided to do this route anyway as it was getting warmer and decided to 'only' do 6miles as we didn't want to risk slipping or getting hurt in anyway.

Our pace was way off but we felt great for going 6 miles in freezing temps and snow!

Oh, and we got our ME packets too! Yeah!!

Well, I survived my Chilly Chili race on Saturday. It was a 4.34 mile race (a loop around a lake) and I did it in about 48 minutes. I was definitely the back of the pack for this race. But I didn't slip and fall which was my main concern since the windchill was 15F and there was snow on the road for about half of the route. It was a silly race with costumes and chili and beer afterward. Just what your body needs after a run. Eww. But I had them both anyway. Yum. LOL. Did I mention they had a Spam stop instead of a water stop. What was I thinking stopping there?

It was a good chance to try on my sparkle skirt and see how it runs. It did good. My peacock feathers were falling so I need to figure out a better way to put them in my hairband.

Good to see all you princesses who are still out there running and making good progress to our goal on Feb. 26!!! I agree that this month is going to drag. Okay so since my 12 miler on Jan. 1, my calves have been getting increasingly tight. I got a charlie horse in the middle of my Zumba class last night. Wondering if I need to take it easier....stretch more (I added yoga once a week to help with that), or get a sports massage. Please say sports massage so that I have an excuse ;-) But seriously, what do you all do keep your calves working.

Who is doing a 12 miler this weekend? That's on my schedule. Hope the weather cooperates.

A SPAM stop? :rotfl: I'd prefer the beer and chili...though not right after a race. I'm doing a 12 miler this weekend too. I'm hoping it stays cool enough early on Saturday to make the run a pleasant one.

Good luck with the calves - sounds like all of the possible solutions would be good ones! I'm still a beginner at this, so I'm sure someone more experienced has more advice. :)
