Official 2012 Princess 1/2 marathon thread part 2

I did 11.5 today- but had to cut it up by an hour break in between. Still "counts" right? Kinda? Please tell me it's about the miles...lol

I did 4 outside at lunch, had to work an hour when I got back (I work from home so I didn't bother anyone with my stench!) and then got on the treadmill and did an additional 7.5.

I do 1:1 intervals

Why did I do the 2nd stretch of runs inside on the tread? Because my bladder is the size of a pea... and when I drank after the first 4, I knew I needed to stick to the house. I kid you not... every damn mile. Sigh.

I did this last year with the Princess and blamed a baby on board but really, I think I just have a crappy tiny bladder. I could probably shave 20 min off my runs if I could stop peeing! HAAAAAAAA!!!!

I just posted my pictures from the WDW 1/2 on my blog if anyone is interested. It's the same course as princess, but luckily it'll start getting light out sooner than it does in January. I was bummed that my pictures from MK are dark because the sun wasn't fully up yet.

As far as hydrating and RR stops during races. I'm usually fine without a stop during a 1/2. I stopped during the WDW half at mile 10, but probably could have waited until the finish if I wasn't taking the 1/2 extra slow to keep my legs fresh for the full. During the full I think I was either over hydrated or dehydrated. I had symptoms of being dehydrated after the race, but I was taking a cup of water and poweraide at every aide station and had to stop to pee twice so I think I was taking in too many fluids during the race because it started to get warm towards the finish.

Great pictures!!! I AM SO EXCITED!!! WHen will your Etsy store be open again? I can't wait to browse your stuff!

My bladder is bad too - I blame genetics! My grandma had bladder issues, my mom has bladder issues, therefore I have bladder issues!! Of all things to inherit... :rotfl:

:dance3: Congrats!

Can I ask? Is everyone doing straight running or if you do that long on the treadmill, are you doing running/walking intervals?

Has anyone gone with only 1 potty break or is that not a good idea b/c you're not getting enough fluids?

I run on treadmills when I have to and to help with speed work, but for endurance I'm all about running outdoors. I don't have a set run/walk interval, but I don't force myself to run the whole time. When I need a break, I give myself one. I will push myself farther before a break each run, but I do give myself my breaks either way.

I do 3:1 intervals on all my runs. Run for 3 minutes walk for 1. My hips need the break. :rotfl:

I have been running straight through but with all the little injuries that have been cropping up, I'm starting to reconsider that plan. The only time I've done intervals was when I was doing C25K. I've done 10 miles straight through, once. That's the farthest I've gone yet. Plenty of peoe are doing intervals and it works great for them. Maybe I'm the crazy one!

I ran a 20k on Labor Day, and didn't have to use the porta-potties once. Stopped at every water stop and had either water or gatorade. Finished just over 2:46.

Ran the Diva half marathon in Long Island in October, and had to go by mile 2, but didn't have to go again after that. Finished in 3:20.

For what it's worth, I sweat A LOT (but not a salty sweater, thankfully!), so I need to take in the hydration so I don't dehydrate.

I did my 10 miles on the treadmill on Sunday, and for the first 5 miles, I would run for 20 minutes, walk for 2. During the second 5 miles, i had to take 4-6 minutes straight at just a walking pace. I only made it to 10-15 minutes straight of running, then walk for 2-3 minutes. I pounded the last half a mile or so, so it ended up taking me just over 2 hours to get the entire 10 miles in.

Has anyone who is staying on-site and using DME received their luggage tags yet? I am afraid that I will not receive them in time and want to do everything to get my luggage to the hotel smoothly!

When I first started running, I started with an unofficial run/walk program on the treadmill. I would run until I needed a break, then walk, then run again. I first set the treadmill on 6.0 and then quickly realized if I backed off the pace some to 5.6-5.7, it was easier for me to run for longer. I eventually was able to drop the intervals for 3 miles, and started building from there. I never really felt comfortable moving outdoors until I got my first Garmin to be honest. (but of course this was before I had an iPhone with those handy apps!)

Now I just run straight. When I was out for a month due to injury, I had to do some walk/run intervals to ease back into it. I *hated* the intervals. Every time I would sorta find my groove, my watch would beep at me and tell me to walk. The walk break easily added 2+ mins to each mile, and I also found that frustrating. I was so happy to return to normal running.

But with that said, that's just one person's opinion. I do know the run/walk intervals work for alot of people. Run, walk, walk/run, run/walk, whatever! As long as you are out there moving your body, that's what matters most.

We have not gotten ours yet. Don't worry...there is still plenty of time.

Received mine yesterday. I do have to call because they say arrival 2/20 instead of 2/21.

Off to Planet Fitness for a run!!!!

My hip has been bothering me since my incline adventure last Thursday but today I was able to do a 5 min w/u, then run 6/walk 3 , 6x, then a 5 min cool down. Had to stop at one point to stretch my right hamstring. I was trying to run through it but decided I'd better stop instead. Total 3.40 in 52 min. I really want to get faster.

Talk to me about your socks!

I am already a convert to the compression sleeve (Zensahs), but I like to wear a more cushion sock with the sleeve instead of the compression socks themselves (wear those for recovery though)

I have been wearing Feetures cushion socks and like them, but was wondering if there were any other cushion type socks yall might recommend?

Yesterdays run was in the Feetures sock and compression sleeves, I had a protein shake with a banana right after the run, Gatorade, water, and a HOT bath (yes, I said HOT!) and I put my compression socks on afterward and wore them all day. My legs feel GREAT today! I am very very happy that I am not hobbling. I was hobbling around after my 10K on Saturday though (no bath, no nana, no Gatorade and no socks!)- so this routine seemed to do something right. lol

This is me, exactly! It takes me a good 10-15 minutes to really get my breathing under control and to get in a good groove. I tried the intervals recently and it was a disaster. I was constantly out of breath and couldn't get comfortable in my run. I think I will stick to straight running for now. lol

lol

I went to these (copy and paste to find)
http://www.runningwarehouse.com/descpage-T84NW.html

while training for my first full marathon (completed at WDW last week). They are thick and comfy. They are pricey, but in my opinion worth it. I tend to be cheap (buy the 3 sock bundle for $10 or so), but with all the miles I needed more around my feet. Don't forget the wish code for discount if you decide to buy.

I have been doing most of my training on the treadmill but decided to do a short run outside. My shins hurt for the first 20 - 30 minutes but then I was fine. It reminded me that that will probably happen at the 1/2 and to not panic and run through it. Also, I will need to try to get more runs in outside to toughen up.

For those of you that train on the treadmill - is that normal?

Merci

I am sooo jealous about you all. You all are doing very well in your training and whether you walk or run, you'll do great! You all deserve congratulations for coming just this far so far! :cheer2:

Today marks the first day of my 2 week vacation, err, short term disability. My Ortho took me out of work after being on light duty for only ten days. He offered me either a bilateral cast (both legs with a post welded between my ankles) or to sit home on my tookus and do nothing. No vacuuming, no cleaning, no ironing, no cooking, no chasing kids or DH, etc. I have it rough! LOL!!! Good thing I can hold a margarita and catch up with redbox!! :happytv:

Daisy112878 - welcome to the Deferred program! At first I regretted posting my complaints, but glad that you were able to get in by the cut-off. My family will still be going this Feb as planned. Maybe we can both rent scooters and race each other?!

PRmamiDEdos - have you iced your hip after running? I've had hip issues for years and I take an ibuprofen before running, then ice it when I get back and that helps. In addition to STRETCHING before and after. There are some good stretches out there for your hips.

On another note, we had VICTORY at our house this week. My DS4 finally reached 40" and is crazy excited. :yay: He talks non stop about Soarin, Test Track, Splash Mountain, etc!!

I will confess--I am not a member of the TOM this week.

great blog, i really enjoyed it. I loved your pictures!! made things sooo interesting.

I did the Wine and Dine the first year and was so worried about time and I was by myself and my first run, I took NO pictures!! I was disappointed when I got home. This run I plan on taking more shots.. even if it does slow me down.. I am there for the experience!:woohoo:

That was exactly how I felt about the Princess 1/2 last year. This year I'm taking pictures and having fun!

YEAH!!! We are hoping DD5 hits 40" by our family trip the week after Thanksgiving. She is such a tiny little thing, but a dare devil and she wants to ride the big kid rides.

Just got back from a 30 min run and my feet were cramping. It is the first time that has happened to me. Thoughts? Suggestions?
