Official 2012 Princess 1/2 marathon thread part 2

I did not see any photopass photographers last year. there were plenty of professional photographers, but I'm not sure they were there with the characters. I ran with my camera - there are CMs with all of the characters to take a picture for you!

Thanks! I will just count on the kindness of my fellow runners for pictures! :goodvibes

Do they publish a list of what characters we'll see? since I'm dressing up as Cinderella, I'd really like to get a pic with her (preferably near the start so i'm not all sweaty! :thumbsup2)

Can anybody tell me if there are photopass photographers anywhere along the race route? or do people run with cameras? my cell phone takes awful pictures, so i was hoping for photopass photogs, but nobody ever mentions them.......

Also, the professionals are not with ALL the characters, so you might want to have your camera on hand. Not to mention that the pics are somewhat expensive. I carried my camera in hand the whole time and it was fine, but I also normally carry my phone in hand while I run so I was pretty used to it.

I just saw that Run Disney posted a link to the runner tracking (for the Tink, but I was nosey and followed it). I was surprised to see a Facebook option. How does that work? Will it automatically post updates on your Facebook page? That is cool if it does. Has anybody tried the Facebook option before? Thanks!

And congratulations to you Lauren! I would definitely talk to your doctor, but I would imagine that as long as you are having a healthy pregnancy and you were already running that you would be okay. But get your doctor's okay just to be sure.

I was looking for my email from last year with my race number - can't find it. Just wondering WHEN we got it, not that it tells you the corral or anything. I am getting so curious LOL. I guess we should get it by the beginning of February.

Can't believe how close we are!

I think it would be pretty efficient if Disney put the PP out by the characters. One less thing for runners to worry about. I mean really, at $120-150 a pop to enter the race and thousands of people running, how much could it really cost them? I would love to just have the wristband and give it to the PP, take the pic and GO! LOL

Th photographers are from an outside company. It used to be ASI or something like that. Now it is Brightroom. IMO the photos are far from professional and very expensive. Bring your own camera.

I meant PhotoPass photogs. It would be great if Disney put them by the characters. I love using the service in the parks, it would be great if they put them along the race course. I know they're not the best pics, but they're better than me taking them with an iPhone.

My thoughts on Cameras and course photographers.....

You can purchase a small point and shoot camera for less than Brightroom will charge for a few pictures or the package which retails for over $100. Ebay and other clearance places have last years camera models for good deals right now. Look for the small simple ones.

We had camera mishap marathon weekend. Destroyed 2 point and shoot camera. DD spilled poweraide on hers and then helping me after the marathon she placed my camera in my bag with my opened water bottle and drowned it. The SD cards were still good so we got our photos, but DH ordered us both very nice cameras for $100 each to replace. There were also some nice cameras for less than $100 and you can get some great photos.

Does anyone know where to pick up ChEAR Squad stuff? I signed DH up for the package that is one up from the free one. I want to sign up my mom for the free one. Do they just get a wrist band?

Colleen, there's is a desk at the Expo near where you get registration and your goody bags when you check in labeled "Cheer Squad". It was every easy to find. Last year my sister registered for it, got her cheersquad tshirt and chair and it took all of 2 minutes. I can't remember if there was a wrist band or not (I'm guessing yes).

Thanks for the good information Bellerunner.
Can you tell me the closers for Disneyland from 1/27 - 30?
I wanted to know for when I'm running the Tinkerbell.
Thanks!

Disfan11, I will post it in the Tink Thread when I get home. Look for it some time late tonight or tomorrow morning!

Thanks for the tip! :thumbsup2 Off to look for a running camera so I don't worry about dropping my good one. :)

Ya, you definitely don't want to run with your good one, but it's not too hard running with a camera. I've always taken my point and shoots with me and have gotten some great pictures. Considering they do have a lot of characters out during the Princess, it's a lot of fun, and definitely cheaper than the race photographers! Plus, they sometimes have special characters out, like Royal Mickey and Minnie. Some of my friends are still jealous about that one...

Well, I don't have any advice, but I definitely wanted to offer congrats! What wonderful news! I know there was at least one person on this board last year who walked it very pregnant - Longhorns, was her disboard name, I think? Anyway, congrats!
Thanks so much!

1. Congrats!!!
2. As knowledgable and some people on here are, I would ask a doctor. It depends on several factors like how long you've been running, how high risk the pregnancy is, etc.
3. Having said that, I have seen women with "Baby's First 13.1" shirts who were running full speed.
Thanks for the advice. That's a neat idea for the shirt.

Yep- it was me! Good memory! I was almost 6 mo when I did the princess last year. I started in B corral because I had a 10K time submitted which helped me have some time padding. I was pretty slow- ended up with 18 min pace I think (hellllloooo B corral start!)

CONGRATS! I hope your pregnancy is an easy one!

Yes- in my research and talking with my OB, I found that the 140 HR was old school thinking. More reliable is where you are pre pregnancy.

If you were running already, you should be able to keep doing what you are doing, especially early on. confirm with YOUR doc though- make sure you are both comfortable.

I ran until I was about 12 weeks, then went to walking. I think that's because I was a wimp more than that I *needed* too. :rolleyes1 This baby was my 5th and my bladder really sucks too- so it helped to walk instead of run for me.

You can totally keep running as long as there are no other medical reasons not to! Congrats again!
Thanks so much for the advice. I can't believe you ran a race at 6 months. I remember my last pregnancy and at 6 months I didn't even want to get out of bed sometimes but I think that was mostly me being lazy. Last pregnancy was super easy and I worked out 3 days a week lightly. I started working with a personal trainer a year ago and am a lot stronger now than I have ever been. So the running was more for cardio and enjoyment. The only thing I'm having trouble with is wearing the heart rate monitor makes me nauseous where it sits on my ribs.

CONGRATS!!! That's great news! My OB highly encouraged me to keep up my training and doing run/walk intervals. He believes the 140 heartrate is old school too and said as long as I could talk comfortable I was okay. He also said to definitely listen to my body and no trying for PR. I've been doing great until the last week (I'm about to be 17wks with my 3rd) when I started having sciatic nerve issues and contractions. I just had to defer my registration to 2013. With that said, I've talked to several ladies on the FB princess page that either ran it last year pregnant or are doing it this year pregnant with no problems. You'll do great and just listen to your body.
Sorry you had to defer your registration but that's great they allowed you to do so! Hopefully I'll see you in 2013 as well :good vibes

Funny story about running pregnant. A few years ago I did the 5k at Disney World when they still had the Minnie Marathon weekend. My husband was cheering in the stands. He said when the winner came running by a lot of the spectators where surprised that she had such a 'pouchy' tummy since she was so fast. Turns out she was almost 6 months pregnant.:worship:
Thanks for the story. That's so awesome for her!

And congratulations to you Lauren! I would definitely talk to your doctor, but I would imagine that as long as you are having a healthy pregnancy and you were already running that you would be okay. But get your doctor's okay just to be sure.
I'll def talk to my Dr. but my first appointment isn't for another 3 weeks so I hate to miss out on my mileage increases so close to the race. I think the real reason I'm nervous is because my pregnancy has been problem free so far. Last time I couldn't even touch my breasts and I had lot's of nausea the first few weeks. I guess I feel like I need to have symptoms to know that every things fine as crazy as that sounds. Thanks so much for the congrats!

I used the facebook option along with the texting option during marathon weekend. Whenever I passed over a timing mat I would get a text about my time, pace, and progress. The same information would post to my wall for friends to see. It was nice for those that didn't want to get texts super early in the morning to see how my race was going.

I think the FB thing is new. I don't remember it at the Wine & Dine. I did get the texts as DH was running though and it was fun to track his progress. Plus I knew when to leave the party and head to the finish line to watch for him.

OK Princesses!! I DID IT tonight!! The whole shebang!! Something amazing happened at the Y tonight - I did 13.1 on the treadmill with 3 potty breaks (1 of which took a little longer... I know, TMI!) Done in just short of 3 hrs!!

I FEEL FANTASTIC!!!

Now I want to taper off a little, since now I KNOW I can do it, I can relax just a little LOL

CONGRATS!!! That is awesome!!! I can't believe you did 13.1 on a treadmill. I start to go crazy after about 15 minutes!

After doing 12 mi on Saturday, I have figured out that I NEED to go the parks after the race. Way too much sitting Saturday evening made for very sore and stiff legs on Sunday. I did some walking at the mall today, which helped. However, I was able to do a 5 mi track workout this evening, so it couldn't have been too bad, I guess. ;)

It's so exciting as everyone starts to reach the mileages where they know they can do it!
