Hi, all... I haven't been here in quite a while. Unfortunately, my Disney Princess plans have been derailed, as tomorrow I'm having a double mastectomy. I had breast cancer 6 years ago, with a lumpectomy and radiation, and had no problems since then until December. Lumpectomy was an option again, as it's in the other breast, but radiation would definitely keep me from running. Looking over my shoulder for that Big C monster the rest of my life did not seem like an acceptable option, so tomorrow it's bye bye, tatas. I will be back to running ASAP - my doctor says as soon as a couple of weeks - but I'm too far behind on my training and there is probably a 10 percent chance of my being able to participate and not get swept. I haven't totally given up yet, and hubby is running it, so there will be bling in this house... just not mine.
It's been so much fun reading about you all and your training milestones, and I will continue to check in and keep up with the news. Best of luck to you ALL!!

I would also add, make sure you pack any electrolyes/gels, etc that you use. At w&d I forgot my endurolytes and there were none to be had at the expo. I could have tried something else, but with all the health/gluten issues I had last year I was very hesitant to try something new.Amy, awesome idea!!
I was not solo, so I can't add much there. We have a large and rowdy group!
Race night she is absolutely right, sleep will be spotty. Be sure to get as good of a night's sleep as you can both Thursday and Friday nights - at least 8 hours.
Hydrate a TON on Friday and Saturday, but stop drinking around 8PM on Saturday night so you won't be up all night in the bathroom. Drink no more than 8-12 oz on Sunday morning before the race, and be sure to hit the port-a-potty before heading to the corrals.
Be sure and make a list of things that you need to bring with you and check off things as you pack them. We can start going over the list here in early Feb.
Most importantly, if you are flying, pack things that are not replaceable in your carry-on, like shoes and sports bra and whatever you wear on the bottom. Having to replace a tech shirt shouldn't be a big deal, but you don't want to try out newshoes, tights/shorts or bra on the day of a race.
Oh - odd, random thought. I know a few pages back there was some discussion regarding compression sleeves / socks / tights. I have a sleeve that I run with, and sometimes I keep it on afterwards (if it's not gross!). I haven't sprung for socks but am looking into it as my shins are obviously a recurring problem. But after yesterday's run, I showered and dressed in a pair of $5 leggings from Target. They are pretty tight-fitting - I mean, they're leggings, right? I realized this morning when I came down the stairs that even though I ran the day before, there was not a single twinge in my shin or tightness in my calf. I'm wondering - could it be possible that my cheap-o leggings actually helped like compression tights?!?! 'Cause that would be COOL!![]()
5) Potty stops - I thought there were plenty of opps for this, and I should know since I drank WAY too much water and had to pee every 5 minutes. If you are fussy about portas, you will go right by real restrooms in Tomorrowland. I saw some princesses head to the royal forest <ahem> last year, but my pride was larger than my relief needs to be doing that.![]()

It's possible? I need to get those!
I have an active.com schwaggle deal for $25 compression socks and was considering it. You just reminded me.![]()

Hi everyone!
I can't possibly read through all the old posts from this thread and the previous Princess thread, but I am going to try to keep up with new posts now that I am speaking up. Actually I made a comment ages ago in the previous thread but its been long enough I wanted to reintroduce myself.
This will be my first Princess Half and my second Disney Half (ran the Wine & Dine in 2011 with a 2:28 finish). I am very excited!
My boyfriend of 1 year proposed to me Christmas day and we are getting married February 19th, so now this has also turned into our Honeymoon trip!!
I have a few questions:
1) I saw a commemorative necklace for sale on rundisney with no picture! I mean really, you can't sell jewelry to a chick without showing what it looks like. Anyone have any ideas?
2) DisneyBride'03 - thanks very much for the facebook link. I have requested to join! ... And just got accepted!!
3) With such an early start time, when does everyone have their last meal?
4) I am considering the race retreat? Any thoughts on a yay or nay for that extra cost?
5) I already bought the gold chear package for my honey. If I get the race retreat do you think I can upgrade him?

I gave into those! Usually I'm pretty frugal, but I saw that e-mail today and within seconds was buying them. I hope they are good! They were out of XS socks (I have tiny feet..6.5), so I hope the S is tight enough. I've never worn compression socks, but the way everyone talks about them here--I can't wait to try them!
