Official 2012 Princess 1/2 marathon thread part 2

My costume is ready! Woo hoo! I had my husband take some pictures of me in it since I won't have my favorite photographer with me on this trip. I'll just post a couple since I have no idea how to make pictures smaller. Apologize if they are huge.

I love it! That looks great!!

I'm almost finished the red corset part of my Mary Poppins costume!

It's my first time sewing and trying to make a piece of clothing, I think it turned out pretty good!

We'll be driving. Last year we left OKW at 4:40, got stuck in trafffic, got to Epcot about 5:10, did gear check, potty stop, walked to the corral, and made it to the corral at 5:45 when the national anthem was starting! I don't recommend this.

Random memories....last year we were in the herd walking to the corrals and I saw a couple ladies in team goddess T-shirts...I go up an ask "Are one of you Kat from Dis?".... It was another Diser and she said they were worried about you you were stuck in traffic! hehe

I can't believe its 2 weeks! I get a couple runs in this week at Disneyland....wahoo! I am Disney spoiled this month for sure!

TURNED OUT GREAT! I love the Mary Poppins idea!

Regarding lost bus drivers:

Look for the thread in this WISH>events/Competition where people listed their marathon bus experiences. Some people boarded buses at 3:15am from POR and didn't get to the race start till 4:30am then still had to walk to the corrals.

I am at POR and I will absolutely walk to the corrals. Please if anyone wants to do the same let me know!

Amy and I are thinking of this...though I think some of the experience is walking like a herd of cattle to the start. :lmao:

Thanks Julie! Can't wait to see yours...it looked great when you posted the pictures before!

I can't believe it either!! Hopefully this year we actually CAN run into each other! We will be wearing the same shirts! I am tall (5'8") and on the heavier side, with really long dark hair, and will likely be wearing a black visor and the Princess Wish headband.

I'll post pictures of our race shirts and post-race shirts soon. :)

I've thought about it too- I am not sure what I would do. I'd probably take it, but stuff it away somewhere and it certainly wouldn't be worn at the parks. I think it might make me more sad though to even accept it, KWIM?

Not just you...me too.
I train to stay in shape and so I can get to the finish line in the given time. I know things happen along the way, but isn't that part of life?

It would definitely make me sad to accept it. I am with joan, too, I train to finish, and if an injury or something kept me from it, well, that's life.

I had to DNS my marathon today, and even though I know the reason is somewhat beyond my control and I made my decision to DNS over a month ago, I am still a little sad. I wouldn't really want my shirt or packet, and definitely wouldn't want the medal.

I'm kind of hoping they sell out before I can get my hands on one - save me from myself! :rotfl:

:rotfl: Me too. I was eyeing the Tink one but thankfully I procrastinated long enough that they were sold out. I finally kicked my Coach habit, now is not the time to start a D&B one, although they are cheaper . . .

Hello PRmamiDEdoa

If you look at the top map in your post #1520 you can see how close the starting corrals are to POFQ.

The starting corrals for the race are on EPCOT Center Drive, and Corral C is sitting almost exactly where the word EPCOT is printed on the map. Go out POFQ, turn left on Bonnet Creek Parkway, turn right and go over the little bridge over the creek, and voila, you are standing next to the corrals.

Stitchfan18 is correct that it's not as obvious which corral is which, but when you walk up to a corral from the side and see a bunch of people wearing race bibs which say Corral C on them, then you know where you are.

And it's no problem getting over the fence into the corrals from the other side, or at least it isn't for me.

Craig

This fence are we talking about climbing a 6ft chain link fence? That might make a little bit of a difference for me. I haven't climbed a fence in quite awhile.

I bought the Tinker Bell Dooney Cross-Body @ the Expo. With my Premium Pass I was given 20% off the retail price of $168.00.

I believe the smaller bag was $49. Can't recall the price of the bigger bag, but it was over $200.

I REALLY REALLY hope the Disneyland 1/2 Marathon has an awesome retro Dooney designed by SHAG (a girl can dream, right?).

I really liked the Tink cross-body but procrastinated long enough that they sold out. I don't really like the Princess one as much, but I may get it anyway. I haven't decided. Maybe they will be sold out by the time I get there and I wont have to worry about it. ;)

You can do the expo first then pick up stuff. I'm usually too excited and pick up my number and shirt first.

Me too, plus the bag comes in hnady for all the expo freebies :thumbsup2

I have one non-Disney medal which is from the 1999 Los Angeles Marathon, but it is not in the photo even though it's my only full marathon medal.

NEVER.AGAIN.

:rotfl:

I ran my first full...last month at WDW and I say NEVER AGAIN!

LoL I say I want to do a full once, to say I have done it, but I do only plan on doing it once.

I'm coming from WA on Thursday AM (the Wed. night red eye).
I plan on hitting the parks every day.
But on Saturday, I come back early and relax then try and get to bed as early as I can (which is usually hopeless because I'm too excited for the race in the AM).
I get up around 3:00AM to catch the bus by 3:45AM.
I like getting there early and taking everything in.

I did the Princess last year and it was so much fun!

I should get in around noon on Thursday and I usually visit the parks every day too.
I try to be in my room by 8 or 9 and asleep by 10. That gets me my usually 5-ish hours of sleep.

I read on here that a few people have in the past and are planning to walk to the race start from the POFQ. My Mom and I would sure love to meet up with anybody doing that and walk over together! It's our first Princess Half - sooooo excited!

I am staying at POR but I am considering walking over too.

Has anyone ever been able to get their placement? I ran a 1:14 10K which puts me under the 2:45 cut-off. I am in so bummed and am in corral H!

I submitted a 1:15 and I am in C (bib in the 5335) so I would guess it would move you up to there.

Hi Ladies, For those of you who have spectators with you - I have my family signed up for the free cheer squad- bronze. Are your spectators going on the bus with you at 3;30? Are they planning on being at the start line or do they meet up with you at TTC or magic kingdom? I am so confused on what to do with my family and how to advise them! LOL!

Last year my mom rode over with me. This year she has decided to skip the startline since she couldn't tell who anyone was anyway. I think this year my mom and dd#1 are going to take the last bus out and take the monorail over to MK wait for me on Main Street. Then come back over to EPCOT and wait at the finish line.

What type of discount is given if you sign up for future races at the Expo? I am doing ToT and W&D.
As someone else mentioned they were offering a $10 discount on the Princess at Tink, but W&D registration does not open until March so you will not be able to register for that at the expo.

Since then I've been to Physical Therapy everyday for my IT Band and I feel better in the leg - but of course now I have this horrible cold. I'm seriously debating going for a slow 3mi run today. It's been a week since I've done anything and I'm going crazy! lol

I've had a cold this week too - at least we are getting it over with now, right!?

Add me to the cold club too. :( I was suppose to do 10 yesterday and it didn't happen. Now I am pretty sure I will not be getting another long run in before the race. I am hoping all this extra rest will make me super fast :rotfl:

I was lucky last year, but I am very seriously considering walking this year to avoid the hassle.

My room just happened to be by the first stop for the buses. A bus had left about 5 or 10 minutes before I got there and another one pulled up in another 5 minutes and we filled it up. We drove past the other stops that had huge lines of people who had been waiting longer then we had. I know they were trying to reroute buses so that they would pick up those stops first and I am sure everyone got there eventually, but I wouldn't want that extra stress before the race.

That turned out adorable!! I really need to get back to working on mine.

I am not sure I could accept or wear the medal if I got swept. To me the medal is for finishing, and it makes a little bit upset that they give it to you if you didn't finish. Just me, though.

I feel the same way. It kind of cheapens it when you know they pretty much give them to everyone who shows up. I would probably take it but I wouldn't wear it or display it.

OK my costume is done too :goodvibes 3rd time is the charm, this is the outfit I like the best so I'm going with it! I had already made a Tink and a Jessie (toy story), but this one is my fave :thumbsup2

Cinderella princess: Sorry I know the pic will be huge but I have no idea how to resize...

All the costume pics are so cute and creative! I'm going the easy route with a Minnietech skirt and black shirt. I couldn't come up with anything creative for my shirt. Since I'm celebrating my 20th anniv in June, I painted my last name on the back as a fun reminder for me and my dh.

I love all the costumes. Kudos to the Mary Poppins corset! Wow. Mad skillz ;-)

Thanks for the compliments on mine. I am pleased with how it turned out. I am just a bit worried about how stiff my collar/necklace is with the dried fabric glue. Chafing is my biggest concern. Ouch.I guess I need to run in it and tested out.

I finally got a long run in today! I've been really, really bad about getting long runs in - today wasn't that much of an exception. I told myself going to the gym that I would just do 6.55 miles, I'd love to do 10 miles, and 12 miles would thrill me...but I'd settle for 6.55 miles.

I ended up running 6.45 miles in the first hour and then doing 3:30/1:30 intervals for the next 3.55 miles to make it to 10 miles. I was still feeling good (relatively...I almost puked my breakfast up at miles 5 and 8) so I decided to walk it out for the next 10 minutes, which turned into 15, which turned into 20, which turned into 23 and I finished a grand total of 11.65 miles in two hours!

I was tired, I had slight blister on the side of my right foot, and I was out of water for the 2nd time (23 ounce sports bottle...this may be a problem!), but I could have totally finished another 1.55 miles!

The ironic thing is that now I'm regretting not finishing it out. I could have...I know I could have.

I don't think I'm going to do another long run...I'll see how I feel this week, but probably not. I'm not great with getting long runs in to begin with and I'm a little nervous about having 3 of them in a row! I'll probably do a 6.55 miler next Sunday and a few shorter runs between now & Disney.

I agree on the medal thing - I would be sad every time I looked at a medal for a race that I couldn't finish.

On a lighter, related note, my husband sent me a youtube video that was hysterical - it was a cartoon with computer-robot type voices and had a couple in an office. The guy was telling the girl about his marathon training (running every waking moment) and she asked if he ever won. He replied that no, but all finishers get a medal. Her robot voice said, "Everybody gets a medal just for finishing? That is stupid." Trust me, it was much funnier while watching, but now Julie and I joke about it. "That is stupid." :rotfl:

You ladies that live up north and run outdoors are amazing. I have problems with circulation in my hands and am praying for a warm morning during the Princess because it's unbearably painful to me running even at like 60 degrees outside. I don't know how you guys do it!!!!

Not all of us are brave. I tried to get a run in this morning - 23 degrees the thermometer said. I caught a cold on Friday and only 9 minutes into the run I was coughing so hard and my ears hurt so bad that I walked home and scrapped the idea. Hoping the weather gets warmer this week and this cold moves on. I'd like to get in 10 miles on Wednesday since my last long run didn't go so well.

The costumes look great! You guys are really creative. :worship: I can't believe I leave in only 10 days!!:banana:

I LOVE the skirt! Did you add the fabric on yourself?

Are you and your wife at POR? I saw a map posted earlier that made the corals seem quite close...I'll see if I can dig it up.

Yes, we are at POR. How far is seems vs. how far it really is are two different things. Out the driveway to Bonnet Creek Dr. South on BK (past POFQ and the on to the center of OKQ) to Overpass Rd. West to Woodpecker, and then north to the Wonder lot.

I wouldn't risk walking the roads in the dark because of an extremely rare report of a lost bus driver. No to mention the added wear on the legs pre-race! There will be enough walking for the hold area to the corrals, and then on to the start, without adding a hike to it.

Yeah, I don't get this, either. The whole reason I pay more to stay on site is to be able to get my half asleep self on a bus and magically end up where I need to be with no stress. The odds of me getting lost on backroads are much higher than a bus driver getting lost on the route.

It's right at 2 miles from POR to the holding area. If you add that to the LONG hike to the start line, that's a lot of extra miles on the legs before the start of the run. I'm not going to do it, and race day is a 16 mile long run day for me!

I think you misunderstood what it is they plan on doing. They are walking straight to the corrals from the resort. They are not walking to the staging area and then going to corrals.
