Got my longest run ever in today! 8 miles! I felt great afterward but now am getting a little tired and sore. I know I am behind according to "Jeff" but I had an injury and was sidelined for a bit. That said, 8 is GREAT for me! I wish I had my compression socks to try out to curb the soreness. I guess I will pop some Advil.
I want to thank mamacate for her inspiration! I read your account of running in the freezing cold and making the best of it! I can't remember how far or long you were gone, but, i was thinking of you every time I thought of turning around because my cheeks (both upper and lower) were frozen. If I hadn't read your post I really would not have ventured out this AM.
It was 14 here in NE PA and a little windy. I can't wear much on my legs other than running tights (underArmour coldgear) because it gets too bulky for me. So I layered my uppper body with two Coldgear sweatshirts and wore a hat and magic gloves (my 5 yo daughters bc they make me think of her). First mile I was seriously thinking I might get frostbite on my face. Mamacate had mentioned she wore a neck / face protector but I kinda forgot about it before I left. After mile 1 I started to warm up. The sun was even feeling a bit warm when I got a ray or two. After 2.5 I started to feel I was getting into the zone and really needed to keep running to stay warm. I really shouldn't have...I know that straight running is too much for my knees, but, it felt really good at the time....novice mistake. At mile 5 I took a potty break. That was my goal...make it to Magic Kingdom for a potty break and I did. By mile 6 / 6.5 my knee starting paining and I was forced to do a run /walk with more walking than running. Anyhoo...I did it. And I feel great.
Keep up all the good work ladies! Have great long runs this weekend and keep your buns and beans warm (my sport beans froze again!)...
