Official 2011 Wine & Dine Half and Relay Thread

Im thinking that they will have us enter into the park after we finish. Like we get the medal, snacks, beer and wine tent, pictures, bags and into the park. I think this cause it will allow them to know who ran and then don't need tickets, also it said that they will have live video of start, relay exchange and finish, so this will make people stay in the park. Thats my guess, not sure though cause it is a new finish location and first time doing it this way. Also, wasnt the finish in the park last year? I just think thats the most feasible way to have us exit the race directly into the park.

The finish wasn't in the park per se, but it definitely dumped us into the park in World Showcase - after going through that ridiculously hot baggage pickup tent!! SO glad I didn't check a bag last year!! :rotfl:

Last year's finish was a backstage entrance. And then through the heck of a millennium tent. (Speedy people like Frank don't recall this, however those of us who are not graced with the speed of Speedy Gonzolas do.)

They also said they would have live video feeds of the start and relay exchange. Didn't happen. Technical issues.

My guess is we will either enter backstage and actually spill into Epcot between the camera store and the Art of Disney at the base of Spaceship Earth or they will use our medal as our entry ticket, much like they did for Marathon Monday.

Last year they gave us wrist bands to wear.... Just the way we finished we didn't need to put them on to get in. I would think this year, with the finish outside the park, we might need those to get into the park. I wouldn't be surprised if we don't need to keep that band on us.. or in a bag we can get to outside the park.

There also wasn't a "beer and wine tent"... There were the stands inside that we got a coupon for one drink and one snack we could use at any of those stands. They were the normal food and wine kiosks...

This year it states that one complimentary beer or wine in the finish line area before you enter the party, that statement makes me think beer and wine tent(s).

I haven't seen that.. Last year the coupons I had were a little gross after being in my "water proof" belt..

I think there is a beverage stop in the runners only area at the end. There you get a beer. I do not think it is serving wine, but I could be wrong. This year I think they are giving $10 Disney Gift cards instead of the coupons they did last year. Then you head into EPCOT and Wine and Dine at the kiosks, if you so choose.

Well, it worked like a charm last year. But, I understand what you mean. I was nervous about it last year since I had no experience with it before. That's why we had a spot picked out.

My other 'wonder' this year is whether or not the "After Party" people will be able to come out in the parking lot to meet us at the end of the race, or do they have to meet us inside the park?

It (getting your splits in email) is hit or miss. It worked for me in January, but it did not work for me at Wine and Dine last year. It did work for my cousin at Wine and Dine though. So you never really know.

This is my understanding from what I have read as well. A 'beer garden' if you will for runner's after they've finished, but still within the runner's only area. As well as a gift card. Depending on if the lines are good or not, I may buy a treat or it may buy me a vinyl. =)

The Wine and Dine, Donald and Princess were all hit or miss with me. The only one I truly cared was my finish, which was delivered.

I'm hoping they have wine too, cause I'm sure they won't have g-f beer. And I'm not even going to bother asking anyone at RunDisney, cause I had a hard enough time getting a list of what counter service places were going to be open so I could figure out if I would be able to find anything g-f to eat. The whole g-f thing gets old sometimes.....

Did we ever decided on a place to meet on Friday? I agree with Carey(OregonGirl) We should pick an location at Down Town Disney then decide if we want to eat at that point.

Wine drinkers rejoice...according to the website for the race:

One complimentary beer or glass of wine in the finish line area will give you a head start as you enter the party. (For those who don't wish to partake or who are under 21, non-alcoholic beverage options will be available.)

:goodvibes :thumbsup2

Not sure where I was reading, but it only mentioned beer. I would prefer wine though. That is good to know.

I did my first night run last night (the first one since Wine and Dine last year). The run went well. It just took me forever to go to sleep after. I am only doing a couple to see how it feels. I kind of like it, except for the difficulty falling asleep after.

I am in the same boat as you! I did email special diets and they were of no help. So wine it will be in the runners area. However there are lots of options once you get to the booths...Like the Grand mariner slushy :) Also, according to the disAbilities board the booths last year had it displayed which items were gf.

Here is a link for last years gf items. Some of which are available this year too! yay!

Hi everyone! I'm getting so nervous about this race. I know I haven't gotten in the training that I need and I am just hoping to finish the dang thing at this point.

It doesn't help that I still don't even know my work schedule for that weekend. It has been released, but since I am still in training, I don't know if they will try to add me to it after my training is complete.

Thanks so much! I'm not even a big wine drinker, but I know Mike will want a beer, so at least I know I can have something if I want.

Thanks! I emailed special diets and run disney MULTIPLE times and the response I got was basically there might be gf items at the f&w carts/there might not. My questions was more--is any other counter service going to be open, cause if not I will have to load up my bag with food. Last year we ate ice cream around 3:00 before the race and I had a Luna bar right before the race and I think that was it. So I was hungry.

Here is the list of counter service that they finally gave me from RunDisney after pestering the you know what out of them--subject to change of course:thumbsup2:

I'm hoping Mexico is open cause they have great choices for wheat free/meat free.:goodvibes

And fwiw, I really tried to be polite. My attitude was, I don't expect anything special, I just need to plan so that I can eat something, since I'm sure I will be skipping whatever wheat product they hand you at the finish line.;)

Checking the long-range forecast, it doesn't look good.

I'm seeing scattered thunderstorms predicted for all of next week, race day, and the ensuing week. Hopefully they're the normal Central Florida scattered storms and not the monsoon we experienced on our honeymoon (May 09). However, it appears Tropical Storm Ophelia wants to play a spoiler and could be impacting things.

It's full now...

UPDATE: We have reached capacity! Thanks for everyone’s interest in the Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Meet-Up Event, and appreciate your quick responses. At approximately 2 p.m. ET, we will send the meet-up attendees a confirmation email. If you are on the list and did not receive a confirmation email, please contact us at wdw.sportsmeetups@disney.com. By 3 p.m. ET, we will post a link to the complete list of attendees. Stay tuned to the Disney Parks Blog for additional unique opportunities in the future.

I have some questions maybe someone will know the answer to. My dh is running the half marathon, but he doesn't plan to attend the party. I HAD planned to hang out in Epcot until closing and then head to the finish line to wait. I just read though that there will be no spectator seating at the finsih line. There is no way I can physically stand around or sit on the ground until he finishes the race. Since my dh will not be using his ticket, can I? All I want to do is have somewhere to hang out until the race is over and then I can meet him outside of the park.

I was just looking at the forecast today too and I got a little scared :scared1: Hopefully its just the normal Florida scattered storms in the afternoon and it will clear up at night but we shall see...

Rose & momhmmx2 - Have you checked out the party event map online? It lists the food items at every festival kiosk as well as the additional park locations with food/refreshments:
runDisney Finish Line Party Map

It doesn't say what's gluten-free, but hopefully you'll be able to determine that. It looks like a lot will be open - hopefully they have items you can enjoy!

Thanks Nicole. I hadn't even looked at the map yet. I am planning on nachos at Mexico.:goodvibes Or maybe empanadas.:goodvibes Last year there weren't a ton of vegetarian choices, and then add in the gf thing and the carts become very hard to eat at. But that's ok. I am thrilled that there are at least a few choices.:goodvibes
