Official 2011 Wine & Dine Half and Relay Thread

I am bib 6085 and my DD is 6011.

Does anyone know if it would be too late to switch over to the relay?

DD and I have been talking about it and this will be her first Food and Wine Festival. Since she is in college, she has limited time to spend at WDW (Friday - Sunday). If we do the full 13.1 we have to be a heck of a lot nicer to our bodies on Friday, then if we only had to do the 5 and 8 :)

Don't you love our logic here?

I am pretty sure you can switch since you are both already registered.

I have #5612 Just got back from the Northface Endurance Challence I am so happy I choose the 10k and not the half. I realized after today that I was not made for morning races.
This is the second one I have done and I got sick on both ones. Managed to keep everything down but It was hard. I think it has to do with the fact that it is WAY off my normal schedule. I work third shift so I usually get to bed at 8am and wake up around 3:30 slowly make it to run around 6pm or so. On the morning races I have to stay awake for at least 29 hours on friday so I can get to bed on a normal time at night and get up early to run. I am pretty sure thats why I feel sick. But it was fun, and I got some awesome Swag and my first medal :cool1:

Can anyone tell me why and how to prevent my fingers from swelling while walking? I did my 5 miles today and they were very swollen and hard to get my wedding rings off. It has happened before and usually goes back to normal in maybe 20 mins or so.

Do you lave your hands down while walking?

Yes I do. I started carrying a water bottle as I increased my mileage and i try to alternate hands holding it.

I don’t know any medical reason about it, but I know that when I am at work I do a lot of walking (I work in a warehouse) and if my hands are kept down it the same thing happens. I try to hold my hands to my sides. I don’t know why it does that but almost feels like the blood isn’t circulating out of my hands very well.

I have been looking around and the first post for who started this thread and I don't see any team meet ups.
Are there any WISH team meet ups? Before the race there is a big field so hopefully people with WISH shirts will meet up before hand. Nice photo op.

Thanks for the link. Some articles I read say it maybe low sodium and others too much sodium. I may try drinking powerade tonight instead of water just to see if that makes a difference.

Just about one more month!! I'm bib number 7161 (I think, I printed it yesterday, if not I'm somewhere around there).

Last night I tried my first long night run, 9 miles, which is also the farthest I've gone (twice now). It felt much worse than when I run 9 miles in the morning. The last 3 miles I had to take real slow, and I'm feeling pretty icky this morning now. I think my food intake yesterday was ok, I just might need to take a nap or something on race day so I don't get tired so easily. I'm also getting sick and have some fluid in my head, so maybe that contributed.

Next weekend I'm going out of town for Labor Day so I won't be able to do my long run. I guess I might try a 10 miler the weekend after that, although it sounds pretty dreadful. I kinda want to just keep doing 9 miles til race day and not increase, but I'm afraid I would poop out those last 4 miles or something.

For us newbies does anyone have a list they can share of what to put in the checked bags? and approximately how much the bags will hold?

The bags are at least the size of a plastic grocery store bag.

I check:
•crocs
•t-shirt
•diabetes stuff (insulin, glucometer, etc)
•baby wipes
•car keys

Everything except the crocs I put in a small back pack and then put that in the check bag, to keep things a little more organized and if something were to happen to my check bag (ie a hole or a tear) my stuff would be more or less together still.

I have a quick question. I'm not running, but my husband is running the half. On race night I was planning to go to Epcot at the same time my husband will leave to go to the sports complex. I thought I'd hang out in Epcot as long as I could after Illuminations and then head over to the finish line.

My question is.....where is the finish line in relation to the front gate of Epcot. Someone said it is around the employee lot....can someone tell me where that is? Will it be too far to walk from the park gate or should I just forget Epcot and go to the sports complex with him and try to get a bus to the finish line?

From everything I can recall and can see on the map in the program, the finish is more likely to be in the overflow bus lot as opposed to Cast Member parking. CM parking is behind Test Track and Mexico. The overflow bus lot would be if you were to keep walking past the Disney resort buses, to the left as you exit the park. It would be no worse than walking to the back of the lot for your car, IMO.

#2554 here.

33 Days out. Gotta say, I'm starting to get a wee bit nervous. Did my first 11-miler last night (on the treadmill, since it's still too damn hot to run outside here in DFW)...definitely could have pushed through those last 2 miles. I know I'm good shape physically, its the psychological/emotional prep that's lacking, I think.

So if any of y'all see a hockey player looking dude tearing up as he crosses the finish line, pay no attention. It's assuredly just allergies. ;)

Well, Disney would not let us switch from the half to the relay so now panic is starting to set in.

Ahhh! You can do it you can do it! We will all be so jacked up on pixie dust that it will be easy. At least that's what I'm telling myself. I'm hoping that staring in awe of the empty parks at night and looking at dancing characters will distract me from the thought of how many miles I have left or have already gone and the hours will just fly by...

Hope you are right. The heat in Dallas has prevented me from running, or even walking, outside period. Our vacation to Europe really put me behind in training to begin with, sigh. With only 30 days left, I am not confident that there is enough pixie dust in the world to get me to 10 miles, let alone 13.
