Official 2011 Wine & Dine Half and Relay Thread

I am the same way. I run in the morning because I am afraid if I wait I will find a reason not to do it. :rotfl:

Yeah, It really wouldn't take much for me to skip it. I would just dread the whole day if I waited until evening

are you still planning on doing the Tinkerbell in DL?

Yes, I registered for it last week. Of course I had the worst run ever last week and completely regretted it, hoping I get better;) Are you still doing it?

Ha! I completely understand, but there is plenty of time to get ready for that one. You are ahead of me, but I am determined to catch you, lol.

I am sooooooo worried about the W&D - but figure I can definitely get ready for the Tinker Bell. I am still planning on it for sure!! Next year I hope to get my C2C medal - We can do it !

Hey Jennifer, thanks! I would guesstimate that I ran the first 3 miles without stopping. The next 1.5 miles was a combination of walking and running. Maybe 2 minutes running, 1 minute walking. I walk really really fast though. My husband, who is in really good shape, can't keep up with me when I am walking - he has to jog. I guess that is a good thing :) Whether I can keep that up for another 8 miles remains to be seen. With only 10 weeks to go, I just plan on adding another mile each week.

I must say that I was BEYOND ready for that run to be over last night...sigh. 13 miles seems such a long way!

It looks like you're ahead of me:) I haven't never tried to run a mile without stopping outside. I just do a 1:1 ratio. I did 8 miles last week, but really ended up walking the last 2 & 1/2 miles. I'll have to see if I can prepare better for my next long run of 9 & 1/2 miles next weekend.

I am interested in doing the WDW Marathon Relay in January with a partner... each would be required to do 1/2 (obviously).... This would be an inaugural event with a Chip and Dale medal :) .....If anyone is interested in doing the other half, let me know ;) Would love to do it with someone I "know" :)

Are you sure you don't like running:laughing:

Oh Jennifer, I am positive!!!! If I can wrap a Disney trip around it, though, I might be willing to keep forging ahead!

LOL! This is the only reason I am doing the princess. :) I get to take a Disney trip with some girl friends. :)

LOL! I convinced DH to do the Wine & Dine as his first 1/2 Marathon so I could go to Disney!!!

I caught up on a the past couple weeks of posts and have a something to recommend that may help with the Gu. As was stated you need to take with water. For the one I will take during the race, I hold it in my hand for a couple of miles before taking it. This will make it more of a liquid from the heat in your hand. I still need water, but it helps me swallow it down easier.

I am hoping on doing the Donald (15th Anniversary Medal) and the Chip & Dale (Inaugural Medal). This of course is dependent upon A) DP's agreeing to letting me go---but that hasn't stopped me so far & B) A partner for the Chip & Dale

If I wasn't planning on doing the Tinkerbell and the Princess I would most likely sign up for this race, but I have already taken on more than enough for now. Good luck to you though:)

Nice, generally a few moments will warm it on all but the coldest of days. If really cold, I slide a pack in the palm of my glove.

I had a miserable experience in Goofy 2006 at Disney. I decided to economize and really was unsure of nutrition requirements for the weekend. I had won a gel flask in a race earlier in 05 so I decided to use it over race weekend. I filled it Saturday morning and hooked it on my race belt. I did not think about it again until about mile 6 or 7. Then, being in the upper 30's low 40's I pulled out the flask and had putty, not gel. Thankfully, the gel stop for the half was only 3-4 miles down the road and I survived. That afternoon I went to the expo and purchased gel packs.

This is a photo. It's part of the fuel belt system that allows you to put a race's worth of fuel into one flask, eliminating the need for individual packets of gel.

Since 2006, I have found that I really need to change out flavors through a marathon. For me, about 3 hours into a race, I really need a change of flavors.

A trick that I found from a multiple Ironman age group winner is to put 2-3 flavors into a fanny pack all mixed up. Then as you run the course and hit a fuel spot, reach in and take the first gel you grab. It will be somewhat random so you are not using up all your favorites early while not creating the taste road block that may occur

Hi again!! After a little break, I took everyone's advice and got back into my running. We didn't back out of the 1/2 marathon completely, we switched to the relay, and I'm doing the 1st leg. AND i actually registered for another 5K in Indianapolis over labor day weekend! :lmao: I feel like i'm doing really good with my training too. during my short runs i'm running 45 minutes, between 3-1/2 and 4 miles at a stretch, and I only have to take 1 walking break. Our longer runs aren't doing so good, since the heat wave keeps us from really going long, but hopefully we'll be ok with just doing 4 miles for a while.

Question for you guys:

Has anyone tried to switch from the Half Marathon to Princess? The problem for me now is the date. I got a new job and will most likely have to work that weekend and did not forsee that 4 months ago when I signed up.

I checked out the form and it looks like you can only switch between races. I just don't want to lose my $150 and not be able to run! :(
