Official 2011 Wine & Dine Half and Relay Thread

Flexibility is the key. I believe the finish line to be in or near the bus parking area that is off to the right or west of the main entrance. A quick trip to Epcot once you arrive will confirm the location of the finish line's exact location. Based on that, if you are planning on attending the post race party I would suggest a place inside Epcot. Future World (the front part) will not have as many food vendors so that may be a great place. Hopefully the entries will be better controlled so you have a chance to see one another.

If not planning to attend the party then the finish line area is a good place.

I have a finish line horror story, actually. My DH and I planned a VERY specific place to meet. He was RIGHT by the finish line with his video camera, with a 5 minute window estimate of what time I would be there (even factoring in the wait ti get over the starting line).

Well, he randomly did not see me finish. So, he never showed up at the meeting place. And, because EPCOT was so crowded, AT&T's mobile system got completely messed up, and his phone never rang the six times I called him looking for him.

It took me about 90 minutes to find him. It was REALLY not fun.

I would suggest not going anywhere NEAR the finish line. There's no cell service there if per chance your spectators don't see you go over the line.

I predicate my reply on the finish line moving from the IGate to the front parking lot.... Last year was a missed meeting waiting to happen.

The best part of the whole story, actually, was that while DH did not see me, I do appear on his video. 22 seconds after he pressed record.

That's too funny! At least you have it on video.

I'm sure DH will be in an earlier corral than I am, plus his expected time is over 30 minutes faster than mine, so we'll have to think about how to coordinate our meet up. Hmm...

Welcome to the newbies who just starting posting on this thread. I've done a few races using the Galloway method and I'm using his training plan for the half. :wave2:

Just catching up on all these posts - great information all the way around.

This will be my first 1/2 marathon and I am scared to death. I will definitely be in the "slow runner corral". If I can finish in under 3 hours I will be thrilled to death. I am having a hard time staying focused and the longer the runs get, the more my brain tells me I am crazy for even thinking about trying 13 miles. I used to be a long distance runner, but I can't get back to the point where I enjoy it anymore - another thing that worries me.

You guys continue to be an inspiration though so I need to check in here more often!!!!!!

Sorry for the vent, back to your regularly scheduled programming ;)

Dagny- I'm with you. I put 3 hours down, but would like to get under that. I have a long way to go. This is my first 1/2 also, never thought I would ever do one.

I have a very long way to go as well.... can you send me the magic pill that makes me love running ;)

I'm still waiting for the runner's "high" I keep hearing about! :rotfl2:

I get it every time I cross a finish line not matter how long the race is. If I don't run for a couple of days I start to feel bad so I have to get out there and at least put in some miles.

Jean - Thanks for the link to WISH gear! I want me a shirt. My SO is really creative, though, and I've been thinking it would be fun to have a WISH W&D specific shirt (that he could draw cute W&D specific graphic on). We can still do Lime Green, although I really would be OK with a not so in-your-face color. But I don't want to step on anyone's toes. Maybe I will post this on the WISH gear thread as well - but since it looks like there are a couple of W&D runners on that thread, I am curious - would anyone be interested in a W&D specific WISH shirt? I work in the film industry and coincidentally have contacts in the promotions industry (I've had to order swag for actors, etc). Anyone?

Leslie - HI!! yay! :goodvibes

Amy - Too funny. I agree, at least you are on video. Heh heh. :cool2:

Regarding the finish line - as I understand it, it has been moved to the front parking lot outside EPCOT this year, right? My SO is NOT running but it would be fun to have him at the finish line to give me a hug and stuff. But he doesn't have to watch me cross the line, either. Where is a good spot? Maybe by Spaceship Earth so I can use those nearby bathrooms to change? Are there changing areas for us girls to use (because we know bathrooms are probably going to be slammed). Is it best if he carries my change of clothes or should I check that in with Disney to have it when I finish?

Are we at the double digit mark yet? I am SO EXCITED!! Nervous, too. I have been wanting to try a 10 mile challenge run for the last few days but haven't had the time, and so have had to settle for my usual 6 or 7.5 route. Today is the day, I think.

Oh! One more question! I have not really bothered to coordinate the right foods for running fuel several hours later. Coach Charles, didn't you mention in some thread a slow build up to eating the right carbs/protein to be best prepared? Does anyone have specific food ideas, keeping in mind that I DO NOT want to gain any weight. Sushi? Pasta? How much and how soon prior to a run should I eat? Sometimes feel worn out after my runs and I know it's because my food consumption is poor. Like I tend to forget to eat because I am busy with work. I'd like to start eating like a runner, and not just running like a runner. Thoughts?

Hugs all! :grouphug:

Lime green is sort of the color of WISH. Changing it might be akin to asking the University of Alabama (the Crimson Tide) to change their color to blue.

As mentioned earlier wherever you decide to meet SO, be as specific as possible. I met up with my non racing friend last year and it was easy to find her in the throngs of people because we had selected the exact bench in the English garden we were meeting.
I don't recall ever seeing any specific changing areas after any of the Disney races I have been to. One tip that I read one last year's thread was to pack baby wipes to help freshen yourself up.
Last year's bag check was a fiasco. They are claiming it will be greatly improved this year. That being said, in my opinion its better to have your own sherpa than to leave it with someone else.

106 by my ticker.

Has anyone booked rooms using the race discount? I called for a price and even though it is a room only reservation, it is being handled like a package. Requires the $200 deposit and pay at 45 days. She did say it included a mini golf certificate and some others she wasnt sure of.

Just curious if anyone had anymore info.

Correct, normally I would say check the clothing and don’t worry. Hoever, last year was so bad that if your SO is ok with it, then have him hold the bag. It’s going to be so warm that you do not need to deal with pre-race stuff, only post race. I am not sure I can help with the clothing change q… I just changed shirts and put dry running sorts over my CW-x compression shorts.

For the most part a balanced diet is best, regardless of what you are doing for Kcal burn. 60:20:20 Card:Protein:Fat seems to be a great balance. For many in the population that is a low carb diet. If your weekly miles/time working out where in the 40-50 mile range then we would want to look at increase the carb intake some.

One does want to consume a small meal post run/workout every time they workout. This meal should be in the 4:1 carb:protein range and not exceed 20-30% of the workout expenditure. The carbs spike the insulin which in turn allows the body to send the muscle repairing protein directly to the muscle. If the protein is delivered to the muscle within 60 minutes of stopping exercise, recovery is faster since the muscles are feeding themselves. If not, then some of the new muscle potential is decreased due to the muscle consuming some of itself as part of recovery. (everyone knows muscle is protein). To get the protein into the muscle within

I have to call to do mine today. I was going to book through Dreams Unlimited Travel, but they can't do the race rates.

I didnt think to try the race discount, I got a really good annual pass discount that I thought was to good to pass up so I went with it. I'm glad I did also since I havent seen something to top it yet. :cool1:
