cewait - I would like to thank you now for coming back to cheer me on. Bring your beer and a lawn chair. :rotfl2:

I'm with you!!! Just hoping to not get swept!

Clearly, I am not a good poster; my first attempt to use a quote: fail. Oh well.

I'm so excited to be running the 5K in the morning and the Half at night and for training purposes I just signed up for a similar race here in Ontario, Canada. I thought I would post it incase anyone else is interested in running these races.

Its called The Twenty Valley Run, Wine & Dine Weekend and its on July 16-17 near Niagara Falls in Ontario Canada. You can run the 5K or the 10K Saturday night and then run the Half (they also have a 3K) Sunday morning. I thought it will be fabulous training for the Disney W&D race.

Here is the link incase anyone is interested and if you sign up let me know and we can meetup:

www.instride.ca

This was one that I actually would have considered doing if we weren't on holidays that week...
Are you from the Niagara Region? I am in Brantford and get regular emails from instride.ca and always keep an eye out for races that I can do. I would also love to do the cruise to run someday..it sounds so fun..and I love cruising too! A perfect combination in my book.

Any Canadians have any thoughts as to where is the best place to buy running gear? Ontario specifically. Thanks alot...I want to look into getting a belt to hold my id, camera, ect..

I'm actually up in Caledon but love the Niagara area. I'm running the Peachbud in Grimsby at the end of the month and hoping to also run the Run For Grapes Half in September. I would love to do that cruise, especially since its on my birthday.....LOL

Honestly the expos of the big marathons is the best place to get running gear. Thats where I get most of mine. But I did just order a Spibelt (I have a fuelbelt and I heard Spibelt is alot better) I ordered it online and the shipping was free so try their website for a belt. Running Room is really the only other place you can get it but their selection is not very good.

Thanks for the map that is very helpful.

Does anyone know how the relay is going to work? I am doing the first leg and my husband wants to know how he will know I am coming and/or find me to start his run?

And will I get my medal when I finish my leg? Or when I arrive at Epcot via bus? Or do we both get them when he finishes?

Last year, the first runner got their medal right when they finished at their end of the race.

It looks from the information they've sent so far like things will be relatively similar...both runners go to ESPN together. The second runner hands their bag to the first runner to check at ESPN so that it will be at the finish at EPCOT. The first runner hands their bag to the second runner to check at the Animal Kingdom parking lot so thati t will be at the first runner's finish line. (It sounds a little confusing, but it actually makes sense).

The second runner hops on a bus with the other second relay runners, and gets dropped off in the parking lot at the Animal Kingdom. And proceeds to wait, and wait, and wait. Hopefully this year the video feed will actually work and you'll be able to see the start - but last year we couldn't. They DO have a DJ playing music and have characters out to get your picture taken with, though, just like they do at the main start line.

Your bib will have a corral identifier on it (I feel like it was the number 1-7, but I could be wrong about that). The second runner will wait for their partner in the corral that corresponds to their number. They suggest the people with the really fast first running partners go to the front of the corral and the slower partners stay to the back, but there's nothing to enforce that.

Luckily, I think they only allowed about 500 relay entrances last year, and when you split that out into 7 corrals, it really wasn't that hard to find your running partner.

On the other hand, there was no warning system to let you know that your running partner was getting close - you just had to have a decent idea of what their pace would be so you knew when to expect them, or have them send you a text message or something when they were getting close. (Others have mentioned having a text pre-programmed in so all the runner has to do is hit send).

After running through the Animal Kingdom, the relay runners turned one way while the regular runners kept going, so that the relay handoff didn't interfere with the "full" half marathon racers. This divide was clearly marked. The confusing part was that a lot of the first leg runners thought they were done as soon as they handed off to their partner, but in actuality, the two teammates ran together for a short way to cross the "finish/start" - so if people stopped too soon and walked, they lost some time.

As previously mentioned, the first runner then got their medal and headed to the bus to get sent over to EPCOT. I was a second runner, but I heard from my husband that this took FOREVER due to traffic issues with getting the buses to where they needed to be (due to road closures) - so don't expect to get to EPCOT extremely early, even if you're the first runner.

Also, set a place to meet after the race. I know they're changing the finish this year so it may be easier to find each other at the front of EPCOT, but last year it wasn't clear until we finished where we were actually finishing, so if we hadn't set a meeting spot, I'm not sure we could've found each other!

Hope that helps!

Great info, thank you for taking the time to do that!

And did I read somewhere we don't actually have to carry a baton?

The "baton" was a little flashlight that did not get passed since both athletes received one. Good for putting in mouth when in a dark porta-potty.:lmao:

Actually, the first runner passed over the timing mats as soon as they entered the hand-off area. East Savannah Circle as it enters the parking lot. If you want a fast time then you should not walk with partner to the T where relay #1 goes right and relay #2 goes left. The entrance timing mats for relay #2 are just before they re-join the full 1/2M runners.

I am originally from St.Catharines and have always wanted to do Run for the Grapes. Maybe I will look into that one. I think I will seriously consider that cruise for 2013. We have another one already booked for 2012.

I ordered a Spibelt..thanks for the tip. Hopefully it works well for me.

interesting...they kept telling people (while I was waiting for my partner) not to stop because they weren't actually at the finish yet and the partners needed to run together to cross the start/finish...i knew it was weird that there was another timing mat later....good to know. i'm doing the half, not the relay, this year, but i have friends doing it.

Hi all - I hope I'm at the right thread! I'm jumping over from my journal - Carey mentioned there was a great group over here prepping for the Wine & Dine.

To introduce myself, I'm Leslie. A non-runner, working on the Galloway program and Disney is my motivation to do it! I have 2 boys, 5 and 2, and a great husband who will be running with me.

Now that I've said hello, I need to go back and read the rest of the thread popcorn::

Hi Leslie, I'm also a non runner training using Galloway plan. I'm slow, but working on it. I'm doing this solo, couldn't talk anyone into doing it with me. Good luck with your training.

Jennifer

Hi Jennifer! How's your running coming so far? You definitely won't be alone with all the Dis runners!

I have 2 goals: have fun and finish!

It's coming slowly. Right now I'm averaging a 14 min mile. We have the same goals:) I just want to finish and not feel like dying:goodvibes I'm thinking of signing up for the Princess 1/2 as well when that opens up

Another question...I know they are changing things this year, but what are some suggestions for a good place to meet up after the race? My husband is running, but I am not. Thanks!

Hi Leslie,
Welcome to the thread. I just finished reading some of your journal...I love to hear other's progress. I have been working toward my first half marathon too. I also had a peak at your ADR's. Looks like we will be seeing you at Ohanas race day morning..we have ADR for 920am.
Keep up the good work!
Kristen

I remember some folks inquiring about WISH wear. Here is a thread about it.

WISH Gear

Almost into our double digit countdown....:goodvibes:goodvibes

Flexibility is the key. I believe the finish line to be in or near the bus parking area that is off to the right or west of the main entrance. A quick trip to Epcot once you arrive will confirm the location of the finish line's exact location. Based on that, if you are planning on attending the post race party I would suggest a place inside Epcot. Future World (the front part) will not have as many food vendors so that may be a great place. Hopefully the entries will be better controlled so you have a chance to see one another.

If not planning to attend the party then the finish line area is a good place.
