Correct! You pick up your bib, goody, bag, race booklet, shirt, and commemorative pin (if you ordered one) at the Expo. There will be numerous vendors there selling anything and everything you can think of to take care of all your running needs too. Some people enjoy walking around and checking everything out (maybe buying some things), while others just want their bib and then to "get the heck out of Dodge". There should be shuttle busses to the Expo from the host hotels only.

FYI: for anyone traveling with their children and planning on going to the Expo, I read that no strollers are allowed inside.

:banana:I am getting so excited for the princess 1/2

Currently I am running about 3 times a week with my runs being 5-7 miles. I am running a 10k at the end of Oct. does anyone know if I can use that time to determine my start corral?

I am not really sure how that works. At registration I entered a time from a 10 mile run I had done in May. Any info on start corral requirements would be great. I am not super fast but I do plan on running the entire race.

Oops - I was looking at the Family Races time. 7:00 a.m. to me is not all that early and being that it takes no more than 45 min. to complete it isn't a big deal. It looks like fun and I am thinking of recruiting my family to walk it along with the one at DL. They need medals too! :)

7 to me is extremely early, especially considering you would likely have to get up at 5AM to get there in time, given Disney's transportation.

Then again, I got up at 9AM today for work.

Thanks. I am trying to lose weight too. Well, I guess it's official. I'm a runner. I am really doing this. I am still trying to get over the shock of that. Lol

So exciting. Signing up and having the official goal makes it all real and something to work for.

I don't know why but I have a hard time myself seeing myself as a runner.....I guess it is because in my mind its because I am not the "right body type or build". I am 5'4" and need to loose a few lbs also. And I am on the slower end of pace, so to me I am not a runner, but heck, after Couch to 5k I can now run 45 minutes straight.......I guess that DOES make me a runner. Funny how self perception works.

I think the real shock will come in January when us newbies are running longer distances in the cold!... but we can do it! Its great to have the support here!

Coach or anyone else - I was just looking at Jeff Galloway's training program for the princess half and for the long runs he suggest going 3 miles every other week and adding miles every other week. Do you recommend this? It seems like that is cuttting back quite a bit when you get into the higher mileage. M4M doesn't go under 5 miles after week 8, but it is a shorter training time. Also, Jeff only recommends 30 minutes of running on the short runs. Is that enough? Thanks!

Merci

Worked for me. I would run straight the 2 short runs during the week and do a walk run for the weekend run.

I never considered myself a runner....and after training with a Galloway group years ago, was successful in finishing strong...even the very hilly course here in Atlanta! Granted no records broke by me on the course but I finished in just over 3 hours. Four months later, ran another 1/2 and cut 20 minutes off my time...flatter course was one factor, but I had continued my running and was stronger so could go a little faster.

I am not sure if this is your first half, my advice as someone who never considered myself a runner, pick one or the other and just follow it to the letter. Prioritize getting your runs in, read up on stretching and nutrition and hydration and you will finish! If your are pressed for time during the week....go with Galloway, its VERY doable and worked for me and many others.

Its weird, for me the 30-45 min run vs saying 5 miles is much more doable in my head. I know if I am having a bad run, I can stop at 30 minutes. If its a good one, not to push 45 min......in my head having to run a distance is harder than having to run for a certain time. Nutty huh!

Just think about which one you THINK will be easier for you to get your runs in. We are all different, so no one right program for everyone.

Today is my second day of training. I am doing the first week of C25K. I will repeat this week next week, then do the next 4 weeks of the program. Then I will switch to a 14 week half program. Does that make sense?

Anyway, today I used map my run. I did 1.36 miles in 21:03. The pace was 15:16. The intervals were run 1:00, walk 1:30, repeated 8 times. Is this a good pace? I feel like it is so slow. But I also realize that it is only my second day of running, and I have 20 weeks ahead of me. Can I get feedback? Thanks!

That's great pace for your second time out. The more miles you put in, the faster you'll get, naturally. 20 weeks is a LONG time. You'll do great.

Thanks. I know I need to progress slowly to avoid injury. Correction on the pace. It was 15:40. And my shins are already killing me. Time to make a stock of Dixie cup ice cubes!

Good job! Great pace to start out with.
I am no athlete, but started c25k back the end of july. Started at 15mm pace, august was 14mm and now am anywhere between 12.5 and 13.5. So while you may feel slow now...as I did, there was improvement as I kept building up my endurance. Keep up the good work!

I think your plan sounds great. My only question is what is the longest distance you will be training at? Personally, I like the Galloway philosophy to go a little beyond the race distance for your mentally knowing you can do the distance on race day.....but there are plenty of people who have trained at less distance - 10 or 12 miles and been successful.

By 9 a.m., I am almost 1/2 way through my workday! :upsidedow I have only driven to the Expo's and Races so I don't know anything about the transportation except that I think the plus with the DL half is that most hotels are within walking distance so although they have the option for the buses, you can either be driven part of the way, and walk the rest or walk the entire distance to the start line. Not really an option at WDW where if you don't have a car, you better grab a bus.

By 9am I had been awake for 9 1/2 hours, already worked my full-time job, had fed and dressed my 2 kids (ages 3 and 15 months), started babysitting my 18 month old godson, and was on the road to take my oldest to preschool. And at that point, I would be awake for another 12 hours. Ugh, I hate my schedule.

That's nothing. By 9am, I had already found a cure for cancer, discovered 3 new species of aquatic mammals, translated the missing half of the Rosetta Stone, and had breakfast with the Most Interesting Man in the World. :rotfl:

In other words, you were still dreaming too? ;)

I'm pretty run-of-the-mill I'm afraid. I've dropped my kids off at school and worked an hour by 9am. I haven't even made it through my first Mt Dew yet. :lmao:

One day I'll be productive. Hopefully sometime soon...

You're awake for 21 and a half hours every day?

i've read a little about the expo - we have to go to it to get our bibs, etc, right?

how long do you plan on being there? i was thinking of going there as soon as i arrive to disney on friday morning. that way, i can spend the rest of the time before the race enjoying the parks and relaxing.

how do you get to the expo? cab? are there any buses?

I am a newbie to this race but what I have learned is as long as your at a host resort there are buses to take you to the expo and race. You do have to go to the expo to get your bib, etc. I also plan on going friday morning. I am going to try to get there right at 10 when it opens. I hope I can beat the crowds but Im sure thats wishful thinking. I also figured it would guarantee that I can get a princess t-shirt. I gave myself 2 hours but I am hoping to be a little shorter.

Sorry I didn't read through all 183 pages of this post. :lovestruc
But, I've been training and wanted to enter the race. Anyone know if there are openings still? I haven't booked my tickets yet to fly down, and kinda wanted to do that 1st.
