I love my Garmin!

I have found mine to be very accurate. Showed the corner I shaved off by a gas station, crossing streets at a diagonal, weaving around parked cars. Mileage compares to when I drove my route in my car. You can map it out on Google Earth too. It's amazing. The HRM works very well too. I love being able to see my average/max HR and what zone I was in for my run. It is a little bulky on an wrist, but I got used to it fast.

I LOVE my Garmin. How did I run without it? It's my running buddy.
My running musts::)
  • Garmin Forerunner-305
  • SPIBelt- I just got it a couple days ago, and it really doesn't move, LOVE it! No more cell phone clipped to the waist of my shorts or shoving it down my shirt.
  • iPod shuffle

I am starting back on my training. I have been SUPER slack this summer, but back up to two miles. Absolutely hating running on the treadmill, but until the heat advisories subside for the summer, I am stuck inside.

I am hoping to sign up for an 8K September 25th. Need some events between now and then to keep and get me on track. Glad I found this thread :goodvibes

I just registered yesterday! Somehow it makes it a lot more real and a little more scary. I'm sure I'll be able to do it by race time, but there are a lot of miles between where I'm at and where I need to be.

I'm using the beginner running training plan outlined in Jeff Galloway's "Half Marathon: You Can Do It" book. I was already up to 2.5 miles as part of a "pre-conditioning first and then I'll decide which training plan to follow." I found this book on Saturday, and not a moment too soon! Since I am at 2.5 miles, I started on week 5 of the plan. The plan is 35 weeks (plus three post-race recovery weeks), which takes me right up until the half-marathon. No room for slacking- just 30 more weeks of training.

I am registering next weekend, but you feel exactly the same way I do. I know I can and will finish, but I also know that I have a long way to go. I have been comfortably hanging around 3 miles so it is a little scary to think I need to more then quadruple that. :scared1:

Another sparkpeople here - feel free to add me: Room1821 :cool1:

I found you and just did a friend add! Woot!

I added you both. I even upload 2 real pics of me  I want to add some more; after looking at Laurie's page I would like to do a history, but this computer only has the pictures from the last year or so.

My Spark Page is always a work in progress but I love changing it up. The only thing that remains the same with it is the color pink. That is for my mom that passed away from breast cancer 2 years ago. That is why you see me with alot of pink everything...breast cancer awareness.

I am on Sparkpeople but haven't been there in ages. I am HockeyKat there too.

I still can't believe I am about to do my 2nd half this weekend. Be careful of the Princess, it might get you addicted to running like the Princess 2010 did to me!!

Good Luck Kat!! :)

It is so nice to know that I am not alone in being both excited about the race and scared out of my mind.

I started this week with Marthon for Mortals.
2 - 2mile short runs done
2 days of cross training
and a long run 4-5 miles planned for Sunday.

As long as I keep up with the training I know I will be fine. I am still alot over weight and would love to loose 10 or more lbs before the race.

Here to us Ladies!!! :flower1: We will do this!

That is very nice, Laurie. I saw the pic of your mom and she looked lovely. Cancer just sucks.

Are you doing the run program? I haven't looked at that one but it seems a bit ahead of the run/walk one, which is what I am doing.
I feel the same way about sticking with the plan. It just gets very intimidating when you see the mileage getting up there. My next 2 long runs are 4 miles then I go to 5 and I have never done 5 before so that has me nervous.

I hope it does! I need this for ME!!!

Me too!! Plus I already have people planning HM they are going to run with me. I keep telling them to let me get through this first one first and then I'll let them know. :rotfl:

My friend and I registered tonight!! I'm so excited. I need to finish my first tri here in 3 weeks, then I'm going to start working on increasing my long runs. I'm only up to 6m on my long runs, but figure I have time.

How many miles do people usually do on their short run days? I have been trying to do somewhere between 3.5 to 4.5m 2-3days a week, and then one long run. I know I'll have to increase that, but for now I have to get my biking and swimming in too.
I'd be interested to here others schedules especially since most of the plans I have seen are for 12 weeks of training, and we still have 6 months to go. I'm not sure how hard to push my long runs, or if I should just bump them up by a 1/4 to a 1/2 mile per week.
Sorry, this is all new to me.
I'm super excited about registering. It's official.

I so agree. This for me and about me!!! I am going by myself.
I have never don't anything for just myself, its always about DH or the kids.
I just can't wait for this race to do something I would have NEVER done and to meet amazing women!!!

I just want to say WOW, a Tri. That is amazing!!!:worship:

For me, being the fatty butterpants that I am,
My short run is 2-2.5 Long fun 4-5
my plan marathon for mortals calls to incease your long run about 1/2-1 mile every week. Its a 14 week program. I think about week 3 your short run goes to 3 miles and long runs start to go 5-6
The book is about $12-15 on amazon, there are also free plans on the web.
hope that helps, but your doing a tri, You will Rock a 1/2!!

When I started out I was doing 2-3 as a weekday run; last winter I was doing 5-6 as the short run during the week. I started a year in advance (to the day lol) using Jeff Galoways half marathon plan as a guide. I increased my distance when I felt my body was ready for the first few months, once the race was closer I paid more attention to the plan and increased distance according to that.
Are you running inside or outside? I can't run inside, so I used mapmyrun to figure out how far I was going.

I haven't been running in so long, can't get motivated because I have no idea if I can come or not; plus it is way to hot in VA right now!

Has anyone here actually run a full marathon? I am thinking about doing the WDW Marathon after the Disneyland Half. (It's the medal, always the medal that motivates me!:rotfl:) It is a little less than 18 weeks after the Disneyland Half so I could technically follow a training schedule but is it too ambitious to do a full marathon after only running two half marathons?

It would also be interesting to run the Princess a month later...

Maybe I just need more sleep, because this idea could be a little too crazy! ;)
