Got to ask - are you running as fast as you could run the long runs.... I mean there is no way you could run 5 miles faster. Slow them down a minute or so a mile. Keep the mid week runs hard but the longer weekend runs should not be one where you are trying to go as fast and you can for the milage.

Coach: Thank you for the good advice! I think when I saw my pace drop into the 12 min range, I had done some hill work prior to that. I've been running the flats lately, so I will have to start incorporating some hills and other speed work to up the intensity on my mid week runs. And I do have room to run slower on the long runs - that is, I don't think I could push much harder now. I will try this on weekends which will be nice since it's been so hot!

Non running question: How do I get the previous "quotes" to appear highlighted in yellow?

Thanks for all your speedy, helpful responses coach!

P.S. Coach the ongoing joke when I moved to South Florida Years ago, after living up North is........There are no Hills here in FL except for Mt. TrashMoore (The Garbage Dumps)....hehehe.

I am very excepted to start one of the plans tomorrow, and to really push myself. Hoping in someway instead of walk/run I may be able to reverse it to run / walk plan when I re-start the training plan mid. November in prep for the Princess!

Hi Everyone~!

I just booked my hotel for AKV, for Friday & Sat night.

If I can get better air to fly Fri I will otherwise, I will fly out Sat on the 6am flight and leave late Sun after the half.

Im a DVC'er to any points I can save is great!!

Now I just have to reg for the race, we have 2 more weeks I think to save the $20 before it goes up.

My goal is to run the whole thing, as I finished in 2:45 but hit the wall at mile 10 otherwise would have finished 2:30-2:40..........I can do it!!

Congrats on booking your room! Like you said now you just need to register :) Both planning parts are very exciting, as it makes the whole thing more of a reality. Nice time as well!

I don't post here often but wanted to share that Yesterday 2 friends and myself signed up with a running group.

we are very excited even though right now we are in the last group of runners. We did a 30 minute run/ walk at 7:30 am and ended up running down the beach. Well not on the beach but the highway. I am in South Florida and it was already so hot that early in the morning!!
We are all non runners and are doing the couch25K on our own at home. We already signed up for the Princess Half so we HAVE to get this done!!

The coach did say that we needed a running belt to carry water. Anyone else use this? If so, what kind do you use? Sorry if I am asking something that has already been answered.

Welcome! I use and love my Amphipod belt because you can move the bottles around different ways on the belt. Love it!

Good for you getting into a running group!

This is what I use. It's a hand held not a belt. I don't like to carry water, but sometimes, I just have to.

I use a hand held, too, when I use anything, which is rare, because there are plenty of water fountains on my route. I don't like wearing water around my waist. It makes me feel too off-kilter. At least the handheld I can switch back and forth.

If you don't me asking where in South Florida are you from? I too am in the area. some really good running stores to check out are runners edge in boca and the running depot (runnersdepot.com) which has several locations one being in Ft. Lauderdale. I go to running depot in Coral Springs, which is conviently a 2 min drive from my house. They are extremely knowledgable and helpful. They also sell the fuel belts and belts with water bottles.

That's great that you are doing a c2k in prep. I am currently using one of the plans from the marathoning for mortals book by john bingham. I am also planing on doing a local 5k race first week in Septemeber to get an idea of what a race day is semi-like. It will be first race ever, and plan to get a couple more 5ks or even a 10k in before the Princess half.

Good luck on your training as you seem to be on the right track, and its great that you joined a running club are you apart of the GFLRRC? I am training on my own along with a friend of mine (we are both non-runners) who will run the princess with me.

I carry my Nathan QuikDraw Plus every single run and always have and this includes races. The pouch has quite a bit of room in and I am always stashing something in there. I love this thing! My Amphipod belt is a new addition since my long runs are well...longer. I just ran the Bix 7 race in Davenport, IA and my handheld was with me all the way! I refilled it at a water station at about mile 5.

I have an amphipod belt with an awesome pouch that can carry a myriad of things (I even wear it during races to carry my phone and inhaler). It has two bottles on it, and they're perfect for during long runes, especially when I can refill.

I just bought an amphipod belt as well based on a recommendation from here. :thumbsup2 I have not tried it but am anxious for next Friday to come so I can. Those are my long runs.

The big thing I like about with this particular belt is that it attaches with velcro as opposed to the clasp thingy and the thinner belt itself. The Amphipod is a little wider and is actually pretty comfortable. I purchased a pouch to add to the belt to stash my extra stuff including a camera. I did not even feel the weight of the water/Powerade and assorted stuff.
