I second this: Dd12 and I were wanting to go this year, but I think I should stay home with my mom 78, last time I had a feeling I should stay home a couple years ago, she fell and broke her hip and when the time came that I was supposed to go, she had just come home from rehab. so I am just listening to my gut.

So I have another year to work on what I want to be either a snorkeler or a scuba diver obviously without the air tanks lol.

Last year my best friend went as a orange Halloween Vinylmation and I went as Alice....No idea how she's going to top it this year lol Anyone have any ideas?

That was awesome, but perhaps something with more ventilation would be a start.

We are going Sept 30th!

My first trip back to WDW in 20yrs, and first time for my kids. We will be a party of 8 since we will have the two grandmas with us.

Is it horrible for me to ask the grandma's to dress up?

The kids want to be
DD4- Minnie Mouse
DD2-Tinkerbell
DS4- Jake the Pirate
DD1 - I'm thinking Snow White

I wanted the adults to coordinate so I was thinking
Mickey
Peter Pan
Captain Hook
A Dwarf

I hope the grandma's will go for it. My Dh is on board.

I know it's not polite to talk about money, but how much are ya'll spending on your costume?

I was planning on going as a modern Drizella..problem...Teal and Lime green is NOT a popular color and I'm not buying something for just the color, I want it to look good too. Purple and pink are much more popular colors and I put together a pretty cute Anastasia costume, it would be a modern homage to her as well. I found everything discounted, but it would still be over $100 for the whole outfit. Either way, most of the pieces I wouldn't wear more than that one night and I compared it to a costume, which was still a $100. That's not including hair makeup and shoes.

I have the money, that's not the problem, but I don't normally buy things I only plan on wearing once. That's silly in my opinion, especially an outfit over a $100. I mean, this isn't my wedding dress or prom dress.

Any opinions? :confused3

Well, since you asked.... My particular costume I plan to wear (Jedi) cost me $250 to make from start to finish. Fabric does not come cheap. If you count the lightsaber the total cost is $325.

As to your dilemma, couldn't you wear your Drizilla at other Halloween/costume events wear it to hand out candy to trick or treaters? That would help bring down the perceived cost if you wore it multiple times.

I understand not wanting to put money into something you will wear only once. I'm probably an odd duck because all of my costumes get worn often throughout the year.

I spend whatever it takes to get it right. It's a sickness. :rolleyes1 ...... but an awful lot of fun.

Bit the bullet and purchased our family of 5 tickets for 10/25, it will be our third MNSSHP. Really excited-just wish the tickets didn't cost so much-ouch!

My DS5 was especially intriqued with the ghost outside of HM on the bench. She would engage those waiting in line for HM in a witty conversation with a southern drawl. Also, our tradition of LTT for a late lunch/early dinner to get the party started...hope we can make it to midnight, we are such party animals! ;) See y'all there!

Planning on attending the 9/27 party and wearing our costumes from 2009.

My opinion is if you can afford it and will help you have a fabulous time, go for it. It might be worn once, but it's a once in a lifetime type night. :thumbsup2

The costumes I am planning for my family are going to probably run me 1k once it's all done (not counting dd's which is done). I think ds alone could take half that budget. For dd's, her dress was about $165, shoes were $30, wig was about $40, finishing the wig another $10. So she has what - $245 in her costume? Just one *piece* of ds's costume will cost about $150. Kinda makes me sick. All I have bought for mine so far are the shoes which were $70. I do plan to wear them with normal clothes though, so I justified them.

We also will try to do two parties to at least wear our costumes at Disney twice...plus we will use them at home at Halloween. And dd has already worn her costume during our May trip and for photos. Hers has been well worth the money. I just hope I can get mine and ds's together as well as I like...I am pretty particular, thus the large expense.

Just bought our tickets for October 18th! We plan to go as crayons. DH will be red, I'll be yellow, and DS2 will be orange. Simple, yet different.

I plan on going as Snow White and DH wants to go as The Prince. My DH is a big guy so it seems we will have to get his costume custom made. Also has anyone else noticed that it's easy to find Prince Charming but impossible to find The Prince. I found the costume for him and it's $160. The seamstress also has a Snow White costume I have fallen in love with. It is $155. The price seems reasonable but it's a lot of money for us. Also I receive disability and if my check doesn't come by Wednesday I can't pay my rent. Please keep your fingers crossed that some kind of budget passes. If we can though we are getting the costumes. We've been together 10 years and married for five of them. This will be our first time dressing up and I can't wait!

I will be a modern Anastasia.....I LOVE YOU DRIZELLA!!!!!!!!!

But, "Anastasia rules, Drizella drools. No really she does; it's gross!" mwhahaha!:cutie:

I felt better once I knew ya'll spending lots more money than me! ;) Thanks! :goodvibes

We are not going to spend much. The girls will get disney store costumes (tink, minnie and snow white) & I already have a pirate outfit for DS.

I'm thinking around $35 to $45 each for the 4 grown-ups (2 grandmas, me and DH) to put something together
Captain Hook- Saw a Captain Morgan costume Jacket w/ Pirate hat in this price range just need to get a hook at the dollar store and maybe hot glue some long black yarn to the hat for the hair (My Dh will think a wig will be too hot). And of course a painted curly mustache

Mickey - Ears, black shirt and tights for me. I will get some red shorts and sew two yellow buttons on them. I will paint some black on my nose and I may get some big mickey gloves

Dwarf - Saw some cheap dwarf-like hats online. Just gonna get a giant t-shirt and a rope belt. Add in a white beard and Fabric paint a dwarf name on the hat or shirt.

Peter Pan - saw some very reasonable green long shirts with the zigzag bottom and a rope belt that came with a Peter pan hat with a feather. I think this will be a Grandma outfit so shorts in lieu of green tights.

I think that should do it. You will be able to tell who we are and it won't break the bank.

I have immensely enjoyed reading this forum and cannot wait to get to MNSSHP in October!

I wanted people's opinions -
Taking weather into consideration I have looked at some of the shorter princess dresses. Usually these are meant to be more risqué, but I would not wear them as such. I would choose to wear ballet flats vs. heels and cover up what needed to be covered. Assuming I kept it appropriate, do people think the length is weird? The princess dresses are usually long, but thinking those might get hot.
