Official 2011 MNSSHP Party Planning Thread ..BOO to You and You..Happy Halloween!

Greetings fellow Washingtonians! Yes, I am driving. I love driving! I HATE flying. I've driven WA-VA lots of times. The country is one big highway w/a McDonald's and a Cracker Barrel at every exit. :rotfl: This time I'm driving WA - PA to see my DD, then to VA to pick up my DCuz. Then the 2 of us are going to WDW and then back to VA. Then I will drive back to WA before the snow!! :)

At least you're breaking it up a little. It would be a killer driving straight through and even worse coming back with nothing to look forward to. You know it's a long way if it's a 6 hr. nonstop flight. :car:

And, I'm in eastern WA on the other side of the state from you, so I'm that much closer. :goodvibes

Hey!

This will be my fifth party but my first party where I actually wear a costume. :)

I am going to be a witch. It's just a black dress with a witch hat. I can't decide what to wear on my feet. I have short (ankle height) black boots and I also have black flip flops (comfort). Will the boots be too hot for October? Would you just go with the flip flops? I don't want to buy new shoes. I don't own any other witchy black shoes. No flats or anything. Only high heel black shoes.

Thanks! :goodvibes

The boots won't be too hot necessarily, but neither sound like a comfortable option, definitely not the heels. If I wear flip flops, I normally carry sneakers in my sackbag, in case I get need to change shoes. It's going to be up to you on how comfortable your going to be in those shoes for five hours of park time. Consider wearing them to a five hour erran day or shopping day to see how your feet feel afterwards? Maybe walk in them for 3 miles, which is at least how much you'll be walking at the party, up to about 5 or 6 miles...maybe more depending how gung ho your party will be at the party. You will also be standing for long periods of time at the party. Are there any other shoes, not black, that would match your outfit? Any purple or orange in your costume?

Just bought my tickets for my first MNSSHP ever yesterday. My DH and DS have no idea we're going. I've made T-shirts for us to wear and hope to get Halloween Mickey ears. Nothing elaborate since it will be in the high 80s or low 90s on Sept 13th. This thread has really got me excited to go!:yay:

I was in Dollar Tree today and they had the trick or treat bags with Disney characters. I know they give you bags, but someone might like these a little better. Also, if you have a prince or princess, they had glow stick wands and swords that would work great at night.

Are these bags larger? The ones that are handed out at DIsney are so small, we always bring our own larger bags!

My understanding is that they are not allowed. The following guidelines were included with the tickets that we purchased - costumes should not:

  • obstruct the guest's view or interfere in their ability to board/unload from attractions and/or the WDW Resort transportation system.
  • Drag on the ground.
  • Contain sharp or pointed objects or material that may accidentally strike another guest
  • Be offensive to other guests.
  • Contain any weapons which resemble or could easily be mistaken for an actual weapon.

My son had a gun that we purchased at the Pirates of the Caribbean ride last trip, and he carried that in to the MNSSHP with no problem. He actually carried it every day of our trip after he bought it, :lmao:, and we went through stroller checks and some of the CMs even joked with him about it. Maybe because it was purchased from Disney, it was ok?

I agree, you are much braver than I as well...

They sell larger bags in the gift shops. Last year we bought my daughter a large orange felt one with a pumpkin head Mickey on the front, and the cost was really reasonable.

Another Nov. 1 MNSSHP attendee here! It's the first day of our vacation...we get in the night before. We're very excited.

I haven't read through this entire thread, but we've been to the party once before. My costume was really easy...I went as a Mouseketeer. All I did was wear a white turtleneck (thankfully it wasn't too hot out) with my name in black block letters like on the old t.v. show. Got me some Mickey ears and that was my costume. It was really fun and easy. The cast members all greeted me by name, too, which was great. :)

Me and my friend are doing the same costume this year but we used our DIS names on the shirt instead of our real names

I had the same dilemma last year, my solution was i went to CVS and bought a pair of "fast flats" they are about $10 shoes that look like black ballet slippers. they're flat, comfortable, and after halloween I started keeping them in my purse, so on days when i wear pinchy shoes i have something to change into.

if you stick with what you own go with the mantra of wear what's comfortable. 2 years ago I wore sneakers with my princess dress and no one pointed and laughed, i promise.

Do you think they will sell these Mickey Pumpkin Treat Buckets?

It is soo cute!! :)

The boots aren't too high (2inches) but yeah, might be tiring after a couple of hours. The flip flops are special orthaheel flip flops for people with Plantar Facitis (sp?). So they are pretty comfy. I'm leaning toward them. :) Thank you.

Ouuuu! "Fast Flats" sounds like a great idea!!! Thank you so much! I think I will pick up a pair and go with them or the flip flops. Thanks!

I don't think 250-300 miles would make a difference in our decision process.:lmao: Actually it's not the driving it's the time it takes. We would have to take an extra week or so off just to get there and back. With just the 2 of us it's probably cheaper to fly anyway. Have a great trip.:yay:

I haven't been to the party in a couple of years, so I'm not really remembering. But to guess, the bags at the Dollar Store are about 12X14, with plastic handles.

That is awesome! Even though they advertise admission begins at 7pm, they've always allowed entry as early as 4pm. Good luck!

YES! They are $10.95 each.

There are two main places to pick up Halloween merchandise/treats during regular theme park hours – the Main Street Confectionery on the right side of Main Street just inside the entrance and the Emporium on the left side of Main Street just inside the entrance.

you can search a website easywdw dot com then search :2011 Magic Kingdom Halloween Decorations and Merchandise" and you can see pictures and the same info above.

with me and my wife as Gepetto and Pinocchio

Heels would be insane and your feet would hurt pretty soon if you went in at 4 when it's first allowed, flipflops might be too cool...brrrrr. we have been to the party when it was bitterly cold and very warm... why not spring for some cheap something??? its just after laborday you could pick up something for almost nothing and be soooo glad ya did!

I've been reading for way too long and have been sooo indecisive about what day to go. We are arriving on the 29th and I can't pick a date. I worry about the sold out crowds. Originally I was thinking the 1st as I thought it would be less crowded, but from what I have skimmed through here, that doesn't seem to be the case.

It will be me, DH, DS 5 and 2. We have done the MVMCP before in Nov and early Dec, but this is our first MNSSHP. I am not a huge Halloween fan, but my DH is.

Appreciate your thoughts and advice!

TIA!

We were there last year the week before and the week after Halloween. Halloween was the busiest but the party before and the party after were about equally as busy. I know last year they sold out so I'd buy soon. Better to be at a busier party than not at a party at all.
