Official 2011 Disneyland Half Thread!

Yes B-tags are attached and stay on the bib. I've used 2 styles of tag's on bibs. The one had 2 straight chips on either side of the bib. The other had a square section on the corner of the bib that was the chip.

Thanks for the reply!

Not that the DL 1/2 would be an issue but if Disney uses these again for the Jan WDW races, will covering up your bib with a sweatshirt/jacket be a problem? I usually wear one for the first several miles and then toss it. Just thinking ahead.

I'm not sure about having clothing over the chip. I do know my one faulty race time was in a tag on bib event. I still don't know what went wrong. I've gone to putting the bib on my shorts instead of the Shirt because I'm tall and wondered if it was to high.

That's a smart idea. Here's hoping it all goes smoothly at DL!

Has anyone caught wind of good flight deals out of DTW? I'm struggling in finding decent flights since my travel window is limited (3rd-4th or 5th) due to work. I'm travelling with my DBF and being of the taller end of spectrum, I'm trying to find flights that aren't sardine cans (well within reason). We've never been out to Cali and it's becoming crazy trying to sort through all the air lines (I'm on airfare watchdog too, though most of their deals aren't good for the dates I need to travel). I'd love any help anyone can give.

Anyone notice that the program states we will run through Anaheim Angels Stadium :yay::yay::yay:

Anyone notice Matt and his wife in the program on page 17!

The Disneyland website posted park hours for that weekend! We're getting closer!

I was going to set up the bib number thread pretty soon. Is anyone interested in a hotel one as well or just combine it w/ the bib thread?

I am happy to include both hotel and bib number. My sister (who won her age group at the Princess Half in February) may not be able to race. If I am on my own, I would love to meet up with a few other disboard racers. I am staying in CA from the 2nd to the 5th.

Happy Running!
Pam

PS How is training going? I did 3 X 1600 at the track today and it was brutal...even at 6:30am.

Anyone done both this race and the WDW or Princess race? I am wondering if there are hills or ramps or anything with an incline. If so how much of an incline and where in the race is it? I am looking to prepare myself mentally.

Trainings going well for the most part. I had to take a week off a couple of weeks ago to finish healing from some hip discomfort. Been good last week and so for this week. People sticking around after the half may want to look at the DL board and check out the rehab thread. Several major rides on going on rehab early September.

I know for this race, there are 3 ramps and 1 little dip area. Can't tell you what the incline % is, but they're not bad. You start at the underpass beneath DTD. You go downhill then uphill. There's an overpass around Mile 4.25 over the 5 Freeway, that one is a longer than the 1st, and there's another underpass around Mile 6.25, short like the first one. The dip area depends on whether we go through Angels' Stadium, like we are this year. (1 year we didn't) as you go from the parking lot into the stadium you run through a little dip into the stadium. But honestly, they are not bad. Aside from the over/underpasses, there aren't any true hills. Inside DL, over by Thunder Mtn, there is a very slight incline, but again, nothing major.

Thank you that helps.

The worst in my opinion is going through Angel Stadium, but you have a lot of people cheering you on, so it helps!! The good thing about DL is that that worst parts are in the beginning which is nice. I am not as fond of running at WDW because the worst part to me is the ramp back into Epcot and that is the last part of the race. It is definitely more of a test than at DL. I am not sure how much of an incline you experience at DL but it isn't a tough one. :thumbsup2 I found that you have to dodge other runners/walkers more at DL for some reason so that is the real test. Go through the middle when passing and not on to the sidewalks or banks...your IT band will Thank you.

Oh goodness the crowds are worse :scared1: I am not looking forward to that. Thank you for the info and the note on the middle. I never thought of helping my IT band:thumbsup2

Thanks for the tips about passing in the middle. It does seem to be quite a flat course which makes it much easier.
Training has been hard this summer with the heat/humidity and I worry that we could have very hot weather in Anaheim. Does anyone know how the races have been the last few years?

Happy Running and stay cool!

Last year's temperatures were quite pleasant. I don't remember the specific numbers (maybe low 60s at the start, low 70s at the finish?), but I was comfortable and not overly hot during the race. The guy dressed as Elvis who ran in front of me a while might beg to differ, though. :)

Yeah, the weather the past couple of years has been great. The past 2 years, we had coastal (if you can call Anaheim coastal) fog until at least 8-8:30. The only year that was bad was the 2nd year when there was a horrible heat wave. But hopefully that won't happen this year.

I am hoping to be a little faster this year. The past couple years the marine layer burned off just when I got out of Angel Stadium. That makes for a couple hot boring miles between the stadium and the return to the park area.

I am gearing up for an 8 miler this weekend. Should be interesting because I am also going on vacation with my inlaws (yippy). Don't know when I will find time, but I might run extra slow just to have a longer break from the chaos of the trip. :)

Yeah, last year wasn't bad at all. It was even a little bit chilly at the very beginning due to the humidity. You can bet that I am hoping for the same or colder weather this year! :worship: Running in the first Disneyland Half Marathon where it snowed is what I am really thinking about! :rotfl2:

Manda,

Good luck with your 8 mile run. I also have an 8 mile on Friday.,....volunteering at the library on Saturday so moved my long run up one day. Sunday will be track day and so on with training., I am looking forward to Disneyland (1st time) and running my second half marathon.
Happy Running everyone!

Where are the REAL bathrooms on this course???
Anyone know????
Thanks
Beverly
