Official 2011 Disneyland Half Thread!

Alright, I think I might be in... :rolleyes1 I want that darn C2C medal but this is the 3rd year we're waffling on DL.

I just booked the HOJO from Sept 2-5, but I'm not willing to drop non-refundable money on registrations and tickets until closer to September. My parents have already offered to watch DS for the 3 nights that we'll be gone... he'll be 13 months old in September, so I just need to decide if I'm ready to leave him at home by that point.

I am in.

3rd DL half and second coast to coast. The jumpin off point for my Goofy training.

Have a couple newbies I am working with to set up training plans for them to run the DL half.

Should be interesting this year with all the DCA Construction. Even worse than last year. Might be a short visit to DCA.

The advantage is it's Labor Day weekend, so most jobs unless you're doing service industry or something will be closed on Monday. Good luck!

Which also means that the entire time, the parks are crazy busy. All the lines were long to every attraction. That is my least favorite thing about running at DL. At least with the Princess and WDW Marathon Weekend, and even the Wine & Dine isn't the busiest time at WDW. I wish they would move the DL Half to October, or November.

Regardless, it will be fun and it is great to see so many going for the C2C! :woohoo:

I was thinking the same thing. Especially with the front entrance and area around there already torn up. Hopefully the sides of the new entrance will be done so at least we can go in through the side. The nice thing is that the Mermaid ride will be open so the walls over in that area will finally be down and we can see across to the Pier and the water. I can't remember the last time that happened!

If you have a 10 min rule(ie if lines are longer than 10 mins), you can't ride or do much. I agree that all other WDW races allow for this but Dl doesn't. The original date in mid Sept would have!

I dont find the crowds bad that weekend at all. All but the top AP is blocked, and the last 2 years, there lines werent bad around the parks.

the sad part if that the rides are running when you are going through the park, so you can hop on during the race for a ride. ;)

Maybe for you, but after being there for 3 straight years of DL Half weekend, I would never go there unless it was for the race. I don't do any rides. I hate busy times and this is one of them. If you arrive on Thurs or leave on Tues, not bad but for people who avoid busier times avoid doing DL Half! Again, I am one of a few who do the 10 min rule. If you like to stand in line, great time to go to DL!

I'm one of the weird people. To me if there aren't crowds at Disney, it doesn't feel like Disney.

That's one reason why I'm planning on a longer trip after the race to go to the parks. So hopefully I'll have lower crowds the week after the holiday. But to be able to see Fantasmic, I'll probably need to go on one of the busier days.

That is very smart. That is what we did too but we also did the Walt's Footsteps tour which got us into some rides right away so that made it a bit better. I was tempted to buy the VIP tour that allows you to get onto rides right away if I didn't like spending an extra couple thousand dollars just to get on rides.

I didn't mind crowds until I worked at WDW. Now, I have very little tolerance for them. Especially when it isn't great to stand on your feet for hours before and after races and you have seniors traveling with you. We did the World of Color Dinner Package with Wine Country Trattoria and that was a definite value for having the preferred standing area and the prix fixe menu was delicious! I would suggest doing the same thing with Fantasmic. I think nearly all the big shows have some package like that. :thumbsup2

I'm in for the C2C medal. Well, I'm in for all the Disney ½'s this year.

I'm like that, too! I don't find marathon weekend to be too bad, but we went for a short spur of the moment trip in February a few years ago and it was creepy quiet. It just felt WRONG! :lmao:

I will admit there is probably a happy medium with respect to crowds. I was at the MK on Dec. 21, 2009. I wouldn't normally be there that late in Dec but my birthday is the Dec. 22 and wanted my $75 gift card. The crowds were crazy. There was a 30 min. wait for TTA. It was the end of the trip but it was fun to be there on a crazy day once. On the Other side, I was at DHS in September right after the Hurricanes went through. It was almost creepy. The entire morning rush to TOT fit in 1 preshow room. This was pre TSM so TOT and RNR were the big morning rushes.

Going for the C2C. Is there a "Half-marathon Monday" like the one at WDW? I didn't get to take advantage of it after the marathon since we had a Sunday night flight (talk about some cramped up legs!!!)
TIA!
Katie

The past years no, but I think the Marathon Monday was new for WDW this year, so fingers crossed, hopefully they'll do something like that for the DL 1/2! Heck, I wouldn't even mind something like a twilight ticket for Sunday after the race, that would be cool.

I tried calling yesterday to get my DVC room. Sept. 3-4 are booked up in studios. The 5th on is currently available. I'm currently waitlisted and will be calling back tomorrow to get what days I can. I still haven't officially registered. I'm waiting to get airline tickets first.

Hey guys!! Just wanted to let everyone know that there's a thread on the DL side of things about the race as well. There's lots of Cali people in there so if anyone wants to stop on by, come on over!! :goodvibes Here's the link:

:goodvibes Thanks for linking my thread! Hoping to get some work on that this weekend.

Kind of testing the waters. I usually stick to the DLR forums and the DLR forums only but I'm taking the jump into the Disneyland 1/2 festivities. I'm not ready for the actual 1/2 yet, not am I tempting fate by attempting it, but I am registered and ready for the 5K with the goal of doing the 1/2 next year. It's perfect since it's the week before my birthday so I can celebrate a little early and do something I've wanted to for a very long time!

I've walked a few 5K's to raise money for breast cancer and I walk a participate in the 10K AIDS walk every year but I really want to run this 5K (minus some photo stops). I recently tried starting the C25K program but with starting back at school last week I've kind of slacked off while I try to figure out my schedule. But I have time to pick it back up again. I'm really going to stick with it this time.

DH and I will be hading to the west coast for finish our C2C challenge this year. We just completed the WDW half in January (our 1st). We will be staying at HoJo Plaza. I wish it was a different weekend. I'm hoping we won't be blocked out as cast members to get in to the parks, as we are coming out for 5 days. DD will be staying behind in Florida with the in-laws as school will already be in it's 3rd week here...can't pull her out for this trip, as she will be missing 3 days when we sail on the Dream in October. Very 1st vacation for DH and I without DD (age 6).

Just a reminder that the price goes up after Feb 6. Don't delay, register today.
