Official 2009 College Football Discussion Thread

Busy packing the camper so we can head to the Fort first thing in the morning, but I just had to say:
I'm proud of the Vols!
I knew we would lose, though I hoped we would win. I'll take a 10 point loss to the defending national champs that were supposed to beat us over 30 points! It was a good game, not a blow out as predicted.

I wonder how much money was lost on the over bet on the UT/UF game.....I am glad I am not a gambling type person....;)

Well, if Nebraska could just strike any 2 plays of the game they could win in Blacksburg. That sucked. When you have to other team pinned to their own 11, why would you let a receiver get behind you down the sideline and not even try to pick them up???? Can you say "All the way to the 3"? The Cornhuskers can, unfortunately. :sad2:

:worship: by who?

Agreed. Tim Tebow and Urban Meyer are class acts. I don't care what anyone else says.

I'm sorry for your loss. What happened to Tech? One theory I have is that this was their third game, while it was only Miami's second. In the second half, the Tech players looked tired. I think these guys were worn out, and possibly not in as good condition to play in the Miami heat and humidity.

Even with all my previous trash talk, I do not count Tennessee out. Even though I think the head coach is a buffoon, we can't forget that there are talented kids playing at Tennessee. And, Monty Kiffin is a brilliant defensive coordinator. This game will show what these teams are truly made of. I am confident that Florida is the real deal this year. I think Tennessee may be a better team than a lot of people are giving it credit for. I still say Florida will win, and win big, but I don't think it will be a cake walk.

And even though I said Urban is a class act, I still expect that there will be some form of payback (like the time-outs at the end of last year's Georgia game) to teach Lame that he had better watch his pie hole.

:rotfl2:

Thank you all for joining in the discussion!

I was about to change the title of this thread to "TCD and DaveInTN discuss Gator football," but now I think I can leave it as is.

Don't any of you Auburn folks even want to shout out a War Eagle for the Auburn/WV game?

And, I will repeat here that I am calling an upset in the FSU/BYU game. If I'm right, I'll have bragging rights. If I'm wrong, we can discuss that, too.

War Disboards!

Didn't watch the game and doubt I will watch this year. Maybe I'm not a real fan. Maybe it's true nobody likes a winner lol. This promise speech and the yelling at the team like he's Myer Jr just get's to me. There's been talk how the Jaguars need him here. Please Wayne Weaver move the team to LA if you get him. I'm sorry, no I'd be lying if I said that, I think this guy is a media hog and is not a team player. Oh and by the way if somebody says bad things about me for what I said, BTW I'll be back next year, let's do it again.:lmao:

Donnie, my husband feels the exact same way you do about tebow. He and his family came to speak at our church when he was in high school about their mission trips to the Phillippines. It must have been his senior year because it was already known that he was going to UF...if my memory serves me correctly. As a christian home schooling mom, I was happy and proud for him. We somewhat kept up with him through contacts in our church and the media. It didn't take too long for my husband to state the same things you are saying. He feels like his pride has gotten the better of him. I can definitely see where you are coming from. I still think he is a good role model. Maybe he has forgotten where he came from, I don't know. No doubt he is a good QB, but I can't stand when someone is not team player or one who has no problem with taking ALL the credit of a win. I'm not saying that is how he is, I am saying that is how I feel about anybody who has that kind of attitude. Being in TN, we don't hear all of the hype about Tebow ('cept this past week:laughing:) but I noticed yesterday even my parents (my Dad is a die hard Gator fan and deeply resents my attending UT and permanently moving to TN) rolled their eyes anytime Tebow's name was mentioned. So, evidently, you're not alone.

The good news is I leave for the Fort in 4 hours.:cool1:

it's lame kiffin's job to keep the game close, not Urban Meyer's job to not run up the score. or something like that.... - Lou Holtz.

You know Pete, it's sad when one is plum giddy that their team looses by 10 points, but that's exactly how I felt yesterday after the game. Considering the game was supposed to be a complete blowout, I was pleasantly surprised!:cheer2: So I guess Kiffin did his job. (For the record, I can't stand Lane Kiffen.)

Between the game, finding $180 that I thought I had thrown away while we were traveling to FL, and packing the camper for our first FW trip, it was one of the best days of my life.:rotfl2: (Apparently, I need a life?)

i just have to let you guys know this. there are new vacuum cleaners coming out. well, at least there were some samples made for them.

Oreck is in the process of making college themed vacuums. we just printed florida gators and lsu (i can't remember what was on lsu's-a lion??) . we were also suppose to print the georgia bulldogs and i thought there was one or two more. i haven't seen any others, yet.

they turned out really cool. so, i expect all of you college football fans to plan to buy one of these oreck vacs. ;)

Quick check in.

How bout them South Florida Bulls:cool1:. I wish we could infer the quality of USF based on their play against Charleston Southern vs UF's play agaist same team.:lmao:

Also, UGA did well in the end and pulled it out. Extra special beating Bobby Petrino (ex-Falcons coach left in disgrace).:rotfl:

By the way, pretty impressed by the play of UT against UF. That was almost a win compared to what was expected!:thumbsup2

Catch up with you all later.

The results of this weekend again prove that the S.E.C. rules!

Congratulations to the Auburn fans. I caught the end of your game. Nice job. Three and O! Y'all deserve to be in the top 25 instead of some of those joke teams that are in there.

TCD now has bragging rights for correctly calling FSU's upset of BYU. It wasn't that hard, really. I watched FSU's first two games. They have a lot of talented athletes and speed. I watched most of the BYU/OK game, and, frankly, BYU was just lucky to win that game. I don't know exactly who votes in the college football polls, but it has become clear to me in the past few years that most of these voters do not actually watch the games. There is no way in the world that BYU deserved to be in the top ten. Same with Penn State, Cal and Boise State. Give me a break! Any team in the S.E.C. (and yes, I mean even Vandy and S.C.) could beat those teams. The problem is that the majority of the voters in these polls live in places other than the Southeast, so they are biased toward their weak conferences, and they put teams in the top 25 that have no business being there.

For the Tennessee fans, I am sorry to tell you that you guys are not done loosing yet this season. Yes, Tennessee did not get blown out, but that is because the obvious game plan was not to try to win, but to just keep the ball away from Florida. Your game plan succeeded, but I wouldn't want a coach whose game plan was to lose, just not by too much. Monte Kiffin is a defensive genius, and Tennessee's defense will continue to play well, but you aren't going to win many games without a passing game.

And yes, USF won, but your quarterback, Matt Grothe, tore his ACL and is out for the season. I am really sorry for him, because USF has gone far with Grothe as quarterback. I was looking forward to Saturday's game against FSU. The loss of Grothe makes that game a lot less interesting.

Finally, to all you Tebow haters, I have to admit that Timmy's Clark Kent get up was a bit over the top on Saturday, but for any of you who question the sincerity of this young man's character, I urge you to read this article (I am posting this link again because you Tebow bashers clearly did not read it):

War Damn South Damn East Damn Conference!

An LSU TIGER fan here! The next two games are at Miss. St. and Georgia then we find out if the Tigers belong in the top ten. Good luck to all next weekend (the 26th).

I'll tell you one thing, LSU's win over Washington looks a lot more impressive now that Washington exposed USC this past weekend!

And, yes, we will all know a lot more once 10/10 gets here! :thumbsup2 Fortunately, the Gators have 10/3 off, while y'all have to play Georgia! I will enjoy watching that one.

I was cut off from most technology this past weekend, so didn't get to watch or even listen to any games, but happy to hear Auburn won!!! WAR EAGLE!!

Oh my, did not know that. Our only info on this game came from the ticker on the bottom of the screen during the UGA game. I had been concerned about how good we really were this year but a good season is really dependent on Matt being healthy.

Of course, this is big news here in the Tampa Bay area. I figured the game was not televised anywhere else, and USF seldom gets mention on the national broadcasts. Here is a link to the St. Pete Times story about Grothe's injury:

This is a huge loss to USF's program. :( And, Grothe is a great kid. This is a real tragedy.

Spent the last two days bummed out over the injury to USF's great player & the Big East's offensive yard leader. I was hopeful it wasn't a serious injury but alas, it's a season ender. USF fans are rallying around BJ Daniels who will be taking over as QB for Grothe. Pretty tall task to go up to Tally & win but this kid is a very talented athlete, plus he has the advantage of this game being a homecoming for him. Gotta keep supporting the good guys...go Bulls. The game is on ESPNU Sat. at noon. USF vs. FSU.

You saved yourself a lot of anxiety. Whew!

I was not pleased with our tackling, but any time a team gives us 6 turnovers when we can't seem to tackle their quarterback or running back, I will take it. War Damned Turnovers!

I am certainly glad I spent the weekend at the Fort and not at the game. I don't think I would be dried off yet!
